Rise of The Demon General

Chapter 376: Chapter 376. A Promise of Repaying

Amon killed Kui Chong because he knew Amon was a demon cultivator. With the Dark God slaying everyone from the black-cloaked mob, the only remaining loose end was Kui Chong.

After taking care of that loose end, Amon was ready to leave the town. However, he didn’t leave immediately. He stayed at the edge of Melas Twitch, waiting. It was the morning of the next day before he was visited.

”Are you waiting for me?”

Amon turned to the voice. Xin Lie and Li Jing were there.

”Did you plan all this?” Amon asked Xin Lie.

”Since I’m the one who call you to take this mission, I guess it is normal for you to think that way,” Xin Lie answered.

”Are you denying it?”

”Not really. Well, if you truly need closure, I will admit. Yes, the incident here happened because of me.”

”Why?” Amon asked.

”So that you can meet him,” Xin Lie answered.

”Him...? Do you mean the Dark God?”

”The Dark God? I guess, for one who never experienced power above the Martial Realm, it is reasonable to consider such power Godly,” Xin Lie remarked.

”The person conjured by the ceremony is named Hai Di,” Li Jing informed. ”He is also our lord. We came to this world under his order.”

”So, it was truly your doing...,” Amon muttered. ”I guess it was also you who sold the ceremonial dagger and the book containing the ceremony to Kui Mang?”

”That part is me, but under disguise, of course,” Li Jing admitted.

”Why do you want me to meet your lord?” Amon asked.

”To determine your value,” Xin Lie replied. ”Our Lord values talents, but he has a peculiar taste. If he likes you, you will gain much favor, as you have proven. What you have acquired will greatly aid your development.”

”Why do you care about my development?”

Xin Lie chuckled. ”Do you think you can hide your demon lineage forever? Sooner or later, someone will find out. Someone who will tell your secret to the world, unlike that girlfriend of yours.”

Amon’s eyes slightly narrowed upon hearing her words.

Xin Lie didn’t notice this change. She continued, ”When that happens, the entire world will be your enemy. No matter how powerful you are, you can’t fight the entire world. At that time, you will have no choice but to flee... to our world, the demon realm.”

”... How do I go to the demon realm?” Amon asked.

”That is a secret we will only reveal when the time is right,” Xin Lie answered with a chuckle. ”Don’t worry. We will be there to show you the way when you need it. If for one reason or another, we are not around. Just head to the no-man-land West of Khode. The entrance to the Demon Realm is there.”

”Sis! Is it wise to divulge that information?” Li Jing chided.

”Why worry? The gate to the Demon Realm can only be entered by those possessing infernal cultivation. It has been that way since the beginning of time. Even if the people of this world know the location of the entrance, they can’t cross over.”

”They can’t, but they can place a stationary army to slay whatever demon comes out of there,” Amon said.

”Oh...,” Xin Lie seemed to realize her blunder, but she smiled again soon. ”Then, luckily, I haven’t told you the exact location. The no-man-land is large. It is filled with powerful spirit beasts. You must convince a country to send a large force if you want to search for the entrance. Even then, someone without the infernal cultivation will find it almost impossible to locate the entrance. However, you are not planning to do that, are you?”

”No, I am not,” Amon said. ”Do you think if I go to the Demon Realm, I will be your ally?”

”No one can survive alone in the Demon Realm. You will have no choice but to join us,” Xin Lie said.

”This is why you arranged for me to meet your lord?”

”Consider it your first job interview,” Xin Lie replied. ”You turn out all right, don’t you? You even get many great treasures, so why the long face?”

”Why did you ask Tuang Yin to come?”

”I know our lord. I know his... taste,” Xin Lie answered. ”Look at the bright side. You no longer need to worry about her spilling your secret... Wait, don’t tell me you are upset because of that girl.”

Amon didn’t respond.

Xin Lie laughed, ”With your talent, you can get any girl you want. If you want, I can take over her job and satisfy your manly needs. I can even throw in my sister as a bonus, and we can have some threesome actions.”

”Hey! I will never agree to that!” Li Jing protested.

Amon still didn’t respond. He didn’t even turn to them. After a long silence, he said, ”I will repay you one day,” and walked away.

Xin Lie and Li Jing watched him leave.

When Amon was out of earshot, Li Jing said, ”Why do I get the feeling that what he said wasn’t meant as thanks?”

”He is just being emotional. He is still mourning the girl,” Xin Lie said. ”He will come to his senses. He will come to see that what happened last night was a blessing. Then, he will be grateful for what we have done.”

Li Jing displayed a skeptical expression. ”I don’t know, sister... I think you are treating him like he was still that boy you first met. If you ask me, I never saw him as a boy, even when I first laid eyes on him all those years ago.”

”You are overthinking this,” Xin Lie said with a laugh.

”I hope so...,” Li Jing said.

*

Amon rode his Thunder Roc to return to the Royal Academy. Lin Li tried to console him during the journey. She saw the entire incident last night. Amon told her not to worry.

Arriving at the Royal Academy, the first thing he did was hand in Tuang Yin’s body as he reported the mission completion. He reported that she was killed by one of the demon cult’s members when they fought the cult. The Royal Academy would notify her clan so they could arrange a burial.

Amon knew that she was considered a bastard child in her clan. He asked the tutors to notify him in case her clan had no interest in organizing a burial for her. He told them he would take over the responsibility if that was the case.

He returned to his residence after that.

He didn’t dwell on what had happened. Things happened. There was nothing he could do to change it. He chose to focus on getting stronger instead of lamenting over what he could have done differently in the past.

He studied the manual book containing the new infernal cultivation art, the Great Evil Heart. Unlike the Evil Soul Tempering, he didn’t require negative emotions to cultivate this art. This art relied more on him manipulating the natural infernal aether in the environment, which he didn’t know existed until recently.

He understood more about this infernal aether from the book he got from Kui Mang. It was the same book that contained the ceremony instructions that conjured the Dark God, or, as Xin Lie informed, Hai Di. Studying the book, he learned how to identify this natural infernal aether, which was almost indistinguishable from normal aether.

Infernal aether existed everywhere, just as normal aether did. It was just that in most places, the proportion of normal aether was much more compared to the infernal aether. A few places had more concentrated infernal aether, like the place where Kui Mang did the ceremony. If he cultivated using the Great Evil Heart there, it would be much more effective than cultivating here in his residence’s basement.

However, he learned that he already had the thing to solve this problem. Kui Mang’s book recorded that a special aetherium stone existed, which could alter normal aether into infernal aether.

He took out the black aetherium stone. The special aetherium stone described in the book matched this black aetherium stone. The book even described the technique to perform the alteration.

Practicing the technique taught in the book, he quickly learned the proper function of this black aetherium stone.

He always felt this black aetherium stone better aided him during infernal cultivation. It turned out he was accidentally tapping its real potential. He unknowingly altered a small portion of the normal aether into infernal aether, which improved the effectiveness of his infernal cultivation. With a proper technique, his basement was soon filled with infernal aether.

”What... What is happening?” Wu Qiu, who was still locked inside a cage, said with disquiet. He suddenly felt very uncomfortable. He didn’t know it was because of the infernal energy. He couldn’t see the change but could feel it.

Amon ignored his captive. With the black aetherium stone, he could practice the Great Evil Heart.

It took him weeks of study before he could properly cultivate using his new infernal cultivation art. With this art, his infernal cultivation increased by leaps and bounds.
