I Can Devour Spirits

Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Dragon Flame Fat

Ximen Kankan stared at the painting on the table, almost as if his eyes were about to fall out...

”Master, truly like a Celestial Being!”

Ximen Kankan swallowed and whispered something in Duan Rong’s ear.

Hearing this, Duan Rong glanced at Ximen Kankan suspiciously, and said, ”How do you know this so clearly?”

Ximen Kankan replied, ”I bribed her personal maid Xueqing, and Xueqing told me herself.”

Xueqing’s fair and bright face flashed before Duan Rong’s eyes. He sighed in his heart: Who would have thought, a girl with such a clean face would do such a treacherous thing for personal gain!

Duan Rong picked up a brush, dabbing it with some cinnabar, and painted a vaguely outlined, baby fist-sized birthmark, an inch next to Xia Shuangshuang’s navel in the painting!

Only then did Ximen Kankan pick up the painting, praising, ”Perfect! Authentic! Unmatched! My dream! My dear one!”

Duan Rong put down the brush with a sigh, thinking: This kid sure has creativity! In such a closed environment, he could think of something like a past life AI face swap; truly, every field has its master!

Ximen Kankan placed the painting back on the table, his expression slightly grim, and said, ”Please, Big Brother, you must keep this secret for me!”

”Don’t worry.” Duan Rong said, ”The heavens know! The earth knows! You know! I know!”

Ximen Kankan, seeing Duan Rong say this, immediately breathed a sigh of relief and laughed, ”Big Brother, the payment for this painting is on credit for now. Once I get my monthly salary next month, I’ll settle it with you immediately!”

”No rush for this!” Duan Rong said, ”Brother Ximen, I also have something I need to ask of you!”

”Please speak, Big Brother!” Ximen Kankan said earnestly, ”Your matters are my matters!”

In Xianggu County, his Ximen Family was also considered one of the major powers. His father, Ximen Yong, had only him as his only son, so as long as it was within the domain of Xianggu County, Ximen Kankan was confident he could handle it!

Duan Rong said, ”It goes like this! I have a friend, whose real name must be kept secret, known in the Jianghu as Crimson Child! He is looking for a medicinal ingredient!”

”Crimson Child?” Ximen Kankan was taken aback. Though he was quite knowledgeable, he had never heard of such a figure.

He thought it was something serious, turns out it was just looking for a medicinal ingredient. His family runs an Herbal Shop, what’s so difficult about that!

”The ingredient is called Dragon Flame Fat!” Duan Rong revealed the name. ”Needs a quantity of two qian!”

Ximen Kankan was slightly stunned. He had never heard of this ingredient, so he asked, ”Big Brother, are you sure this Dragon Flame Fat is a medicinal ingredient? My family runs the Herbal Shop, how come I’ve never heard of such an ingredient?”

Duan Rong rolled his eyes at Ximen Kankan and said, ”For ordinary ingredients, would I need to come to you? This should be quite a rare ingredient!”

Ximen Kankan blinked and said, ”That’s okay! Old Qin, that old fellow, is in charge of sourcing and often travels between states. No matter how rare the ingredient, he should know about it!”

”Then I’ll trouble Brother Ximen to ask him to procure two qian for me!”

”No problem!” Ximen Kankan dismissed it lightly, thinking it’s just an ingredient, what’s the big deal!

”This ingredient also involves some troubles! The search for it must not be disclosed!” Duan Rong suddenly looked at Ximen Kankan with a grave expression.

Ximen Kankan saw Duan Rong’s change in expression, immediately said, ”Big Brother, rest assured! Don’t think I’m all smiles, I have a tight-lipped mouth!”

Duan Rong nodded and said, ”If this leaks out, my friend might be in mortal danger! By then, I certainly won’t spare you! I will also expose the matter of Xia Shuangshuang’s painting to Xia Zhongyang!”

Duan Rong was still a bit uneasy, his words half caution, half threat.

Ximen Kankan was indeed startled, mimicking a palm blade gesture across his neck, saying, ”Big Brother, rest easy! Even if there’s a knife to my neck, I won’t utter a word!”

Only then did Duan Rong feel relieved and said, ”Once there’s news, let me know so I can report back to my friend!”

”It’s getting late, thanks for the hospitality! I’ll return to the Escort Agency now!” Duan Rong cupped his hands in farewell.

Ximen Kankan called Shi Kang over to escort Duan Rong back, but Duan Rong declined, only asking for a lantern and headed towards Yuan Shun Escort Agency on his own.

After sending Duan Rong off, Ximen Kankan immediately closed the courtyard gate of Snow Hidden Residence, staying alone in the hall!

He looked hungrily at the painting on the table, murmuring, ”Shuangshuang, I’m here!”

Saying this, Ximen Kankan undid his waistband, his pants sliding down to his ankles, revealing two thick hairy legs...

Half an hour later, the courtyard gate of Snow Hidden Residence opened again, and Ximen Kankan walked out looking exhausted. He called Shi Kang to find Qin Chong.

”It’s so late, who knows in which brothel that old fellow is having fun? How am I supposed to find him!” Shi Kang complained with a sad face.

Ximen Kankan thought it was true. That old fellow was always a lustful ghost, often declaring he wanted to die on a woman’s belly, how could he stay home. ”Then tomorrow morning, just make sure to bring him to see me as soon as possible!”

”Don’t worry, Master, by tomorrow morning, I’ll definitely catch him!” Shi Kang replied with a sly smile.

The next morning, shortly after breakfast, Shi Kang dragged a weary and hungover Qin Chong to Snow Hidden Residence.

Qin Chong, with a dark complexion and a goatee, saw Ximen Kankan and immediately smiled broadly, ”Young Master, you were looking for me!”

”Old Qin, you’re back. You didn’t come to see me. What, has our relationship become so distant?”

”Not at all! Young Master, you’re always busy. I couldn’t possibly bother you if there’s nothing urgent!”

Qin Chong’s expression changed slightly; he’s not afraid of Ximen Yong, considering he’s done his job quite well, and Ximen Yong holds him in regard!

But as for this mischievous Young Master, he was quite a headache. Ever since he came to the Ximen Family, this lad hadn’t stopped giving him trouble!

”Really now?” Ximen Kankan stood up from his seat, looking at Qin Chong, ”If you’re not coming, then leave it. I’m telling you, I don’t even want to see you old fellow when there’s nothing; you can’t say anything truthful, greedy for food and lust every day, fooling my father like he fools a ghost!”

”Young Master, you shouldn’t say things carelessly! I am loyal to the Ximen Family...”

”Alright, alright. I called you here to entrust you with something!” Ximen Kankan interrupted Qin Chong, and said, ”Do you know of an ingredient called Dragon Flame Fat?”

”Dragon Flame Fat?” Qin Chong’s dark face showed slight surprise, his tone somewhat vague, ”I’ve heard of it somewhat, it seems to originate from the Western Regions!”

”From the Western Regions?” Ximen Kankan asked, ”You’ve only heard, but never seen it?”

Qin Chong chuckled and said, ”Medicinal ingredients are as numerous as stars, how could I have seen them all?”

Ximen Kankan was surprised. Old Qin used to be a wandering herbalist traveling the world and had been sourcing for many years, yet he hadn’t seen it, showing how rare and obscure the ingredient was!

”Next time you go to Prefecture City to procure, see if you can find it, and buy two qian back!” Ximen Kankan instructed, looking at Qin Chong.

”Just see if I can find it? Or is it imperative to procure?” Qin Chong asked tentatively.

”Of course, it’s a must to procure! If not, you don’t need to come back!” Ximen Kankan glared at Qin Chong.

”Rest assured, Young Master! I will definitely get this Dragon Flame Fat for you!” Qin Chong saw Ximen Kankan was upset and immediately patted his chest to assure.

”Also, if this thing leaks out, be careful of your skin!” Ximen Kankan gave Qin Chong a harsh look.

Qin Chong’s heart skipped; he knew how terrifying this little rascal could be when ruthless, and immediately said, ”Young Master, rest assured! If even a word of this is leaked out, I’ll bust my own eggs!”

”Scram!” Ximen Kankan said coldly, with a stern face.

Qin Chong, as if receiving a big pardon, chuckled and was about to leave. He had just turned around when he heard Ximen Kankan suddenly say, ”Wait!”

Qin Chong turned his head back, and Ximen Kankan asked, ”Old Qin, you often run around outside, have you heard of someone called Crimson Child?”

”Crimson Child, never heard of them! If Young Master needs, next time I go out, I’ll help you ask around!”

”No need, I was just asking casually! Now scram!”

”Got it!”
