I Can Devour Spirits

Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Game of Life and Death (Part 1)

At this moment, it was already late at night. Jie Lei stood in the courtyard, his gaze sweeping around.

The courtyard he lived in was quite secluded, not only because he was a solitary person but more importantly, because he was someone who had many secrets from childhood to adulthood.

Deep in thought, daring to scheme!

Many secrets have been buried in the dust, and his schemes have almost never failed. He believes this time will be no different.

He surely has a way to pry open Xu Ruhu’s old dog’s mouth!

The surroundings were silent, without any unusual sounds. Jie Lei slowly walked to the dry well and jumped inside, supporting himself with his hands as he slid down.

At the bottom of the well, Jie Lei skillfully crawled through the black hole, crawled a short distance, then stood up!

This underground chamber was personally dug by him years ago when he was a few years younger, restless in his youth!

Jie Lei looked at the dim light at the end of the passage not far away, and he walked over without any hesitation, turning into the shadows.

The familiar underground chamber, the air still filled with a strong scent of blood.

Xu Ruhu leaned against the dirt wall, sitting there, his head lowered, and his hair hanging down!

He seemed to be asleep...

Jie Lei walked a few steps forward and said, ”Mr. Xu, I have good news for you, the city gates opened today. Though inspections are strict, it is finally possible to leave the city... I’ve thought of a way... let me discuss it with you...”

While speaking, Jie Lei noticed that Xu Ruhu remained motionless, lying there...

”Mr. Xu?”

Jie Lei didn’t expect Xu Ruhu would have no reaction when he mentioned leaving the city!

Jie Lei’s face turned cold, he suddenly had a bad feeling!

Xu Ruhu’s Dantian was destroyed, and he was severely injured. Could he have truly died here in the underground chamber?

Jie Lei walked a few steps forward, squatted down, and wanted to lift Xu Ruhu’s hanging hair to check his breath...

Just as Jie Lei raised his hand, Xu Ruhu’s body suddenly twitched, and at the same time, his naturally hanging right hand suddenly flicked his wrist, and four cold flashes appeared simultaneously!

Four poison needles suddenly shot out and scattered horizontally toward the crouching Jie Lei!

Jie Lei was originally a very cautious person, and he knew well Xu Ruhu’s treacherous and vicious nature. If Xu Ruhu’s Dantian hadn’t been destroyed, reducing him to almost a cripple, Jie Lei would never have gotten so close!

Nonetheless, Jie Lei’s muscles were constantly tense!

When the sudden cold flashes appeared, his body abruptly retreated backward, his toes simultaneously touching the ground as he tried to avoid the flying needles!

But Duan Rong moved almost simultaneously, springing up and drawing the Cow Tail Saber from his back, a mass of flower-white disheveled hair fell with Duan Rong’s body!

Duan Rong’s Cow Tail Saber chopped down, blocking Jie Lei’s escape space from the poison needles!

All this happened in the blink of an eye!

There was no time for Jie Lei to think, it was almost a reflex, his muscles reacted instinctively as he rolled on the ground and stopped at the corner, half-kneeling with saber in hand, staring angrily at Duan Rong...

Three poison needles missed!

But one poison needle pierced into Jie Lei’s neck!

The four poison needles fired by Duan Rong were scattered horizontally, extremely difficult to dodge!

But just now, Jie Lei’s roll on the ground was quite stunning. Perhaps it was an illusion, in that moment, as the shadow flickered, Duan Rong seemed to feel Jie Lei’s body suddenly shrink in a bizarre instant.

But it might just be his misperception, after all, it was just a moment, he hadn’t clearly seen, Jie Lei was already half-kneeling at the corner.

Jie Lei pulled out the needle from his neck and threw it on the ground. He knew the needle must have been poisoned. Otherwise, using such hidden weapons has no more damage than a mosquito bite!

Jie Lei stood up, holding the saber and looked at Duan Rong standing in the center of the underground chamber in the dim, weak oil lamp light...

Jie Lei suddenly recognized a few familiar features in Duan Rong’s face. His eyes flashed with surprise, ”You’re Yang Zhen’s childhood friend?”

”How did you find this place?”

Jie Lei really couldn’t understand how this person found this place in such a short time. He believed there was no trace left behind from his rescuing Xu Ruhu from prison!

Duan Rong showed no interest in pointless talk with Jie Lei, moving with the Cloud Serpent Step and swung his saber towards Jie Lei.

Jie Lei wasn’t fond of unnecessary words either; he was just too shocked earlier!

Seeing Duan Rong’s figure gliding towards him, he immediately swung his saber to counter. The two instantly engaged in a skirmish!

Swift saber and rapid attack, saber light like water!

Duan Rong was skilled in nimbleness, while Jie Lei excelled in saber ferocity!

Jie Lei’s saber technique was unknown, but even with Duan Rong’s Cloud Serpent Step enhancement, he subtly pressed down on him!

Duan Rong knew that the deadly trap he had set was close to success, and he couldn’t let Jie Lei have an opportunity to counterattack!

Duan Rong suddenly retreated a distance!

Jie Lei pursued him ferociously, attacking fiercely!

But as Duan Rong retreated, he switched saber techniques, using the Yellow Springs Saber Technique instead.

Duan Rong suddenly resorted to the Yellow Springs Saber Technique, not only because it was excellent for defense, but more importantly, he had already seen the needle’s position in Jie Lei’s neck showing a coin-sized black spot!

Having witnessed the deadly poison of the needle firsthand, Duan Rong knew its potency!

At this moment, all he needed was to remain undefeated, stall Jie Lei, and once the poison spread, Jie Lei would inevitably be defeated!

Duan Rong employed defensive saber techniques from the Yellow Springs Saber Technique, coupled with the agility from the Cloud Serpent Step, quickly stabilizing the situation!

Though Jie Lei’s saber strikes were fierce and his attacking routes bizarre and clever, Duan Rong stood like an unmoving mountain amidst the cold flashes!

Jie Lei’s continuous aggressive attacks still couldn’t breach Duan Rong’s defense!

His heart grew anxious, a thin layer of cold sweat already forming on his forehead. He couldn’t see his own face, but if he looked in the mirror, his face would show a faint black hue!

The poison had spread from his neck’s arteries to his face!

With each passing breath, the blackness on his face subtly deepened!

Jie Lei’s continuous attack began to gradually weaken, and Duan Rong noticed that as Jie Lei darted around, his footsteps started to show some instability!

At this moment, Jie Lei suddenly twisted his right foot, his saber movement veered off, and his form became chaotic!

Duan Rong’s eyes narrowed, seizing the opportunity, he attacked swiftly!

Jie Lei retreated repeatedly, barely parrying, but there was already a hint of panic in his expression!

In his panic, Jie Lei’s steps faltered once again!

He was only half a foot away from the dirt wall behind him. If he retreated slightly more, he’d crash into it!

Duan Rong suddenly dashed diagonally, the saber shadow following him, stabbing ferociously from the side towards Jie Lei’s heart!

Duan Rong’s saber angle was very tricky, thrusting from Jie Lei’s left arm under the ribs towards the heart!

Jie Lei had no retreat, no escape!

One stab pierced into Jie Lei’s chest!

However, Duan Rong’s expression changed drastically, heart startling!

Because that feeling was not what you’d get from stabbing into a body!

Indeed, Jie Lei’s face, now darkened with black air, suddenly broke into an evil smile! A look of a cunning plan succeeding!

As the evil smile bloomed on his face, he swung his saber horizontally at Duan Rong standing beside him!

Duan Rong tried to withdraw his saber for defense, but suddenly he realized his Cow Tail Saber seemed to be clamped by something, unable to be pulled out in time!

Duan Rong suddenly caught sight, Jie Lei’s left arm sleeve was empty, somehow dangling beside him!

But as the blade closed in, causing his hairs to stand on end, Duan Rong pushed the Cloud Serpent Step and Step Technique to the limit, narrowly and dangerously weaving past Jie Lei’s saber at close range!

Though Duan Rong escaped danger, Jie Lei flicked his sleeve, and suddenly a short spear shot out, its cold flash aimed directly at Duan Rong’s throat!
