I Cultivate in a Government Office

”Also, keep an eye out for any rarer auxiliary materials, like ’Binding Vine Juice’ which increases the resilience of a Magical Artifact, or ’Star Dust Sand’ that improves Spiritual Power conductivity. If you find any at a reasonable price, buy them. I should still have some money in my personal account, right?”

Yang Yong took careful note and nodded. ”Yes, Patriarch, I’ll get on it right away.” He paused for a moment before adding, ”By the way, Patriarch, Uncle Deyong came looking for me yesterday. He was asking about that newly registered company. It seems he has some thoughts and wanted to ask you about the specific articles of incorporation...”

Yang Wenqing waved his hand, cutting him off. ”Uncle Deyong has his own ideas about that company. You don’t need to worry about it. Your task is to handle the things I’ve assigned you, especially purchasing the materials. You need to focus on that... You still haven’t told me, is there money in my account?”

He had separated his finances from the clan’s assets years ago. His personal account consisted of the income from a few Spirit Medicine Manors, yielding a fixed annual income of about one million, plus another million in annual dividends from the clan’s assets.

”Rest assured. Aside from resources for your cultivation, you haven’t acquired any other assets over the years. You still have nearly three million in cash available, which is more than enough to buy a large quantity of Artifact Refining materials. However, Star Dust Sand will be difficult. It’s too expensive.”

”How much?”

”Thirty thousand a gram.”

”Then buy ten grams. Use the rest for gold sand.”

”Understood!”

Yang Yong bowed in acknowledgment, then quietly left the dining room.

Yang Wenqing sat alone at the dining table. He wasn’t in a hurry to get to his office at the sub-bureau today. He leisurely finished half a cup of tea, then rose and ambled over to his study. He picked up the internal briefs and government summaries that had been delivered today and began to read through them at an unhurried pace.

He didn’t put down the briefs until the mechanical clock on the wall chimed eight. He then straightened his uniform and walked toward the Flying Shuttle that was already activated in the backyard.

...

Arriving at his office door, Yang Wenqing saw two figures bustling about. One of them was Liu Qin, who had previously taken leave for her breakthrough. It was clear she had now reached the Qi Cultivation Stage.

”Director,” Liu Min was the first to speak. ”Assistant Liu came back first thing this morning. Should we have her continue in the Director’s office, or...”

Yang Wenqing took the opportunity to say, ”I’m used to working with Xiaoxian, so I’ll keep her with me for now. If a better opportunity comes along for her one day, I’ll certainly let her go.”

Liu Qin quickly pledged her loyalty, ”The best place to learn is by the Director’s side.”

Yang Wenqing smiled noncommittally, then pushed the door open and entered his office. The files he needed to handle were already organized on his desk. He glanced at his schedule for the day; it was the same old routine.

Half an hour later, Liu Qin knocked and entered. She took a document from the folder she was carrying and presented it with both hands. ”Director, Sun Yan completed his check-in with the records department this morning. This is his transfer confirmation and his resume.”

She knew exactly why her director had specifically requested this person, so she came to report at the earliest opportunity.

Yang Wenqing took the file and scanned it quickly. Then he set it down, pondered for a moment, and gave his instructions, ”I won’t meet with him personally. You go see him on my behalf...”

”Tell him that the New District is in great need of talent right now, and the port expansion and the construction of the strategic reserve warehouse are top priorities. The sub-bureau has decided that he will spearhead the preliminary preparations for the new public security station in the Port District. Have him coordinate with Vice Director Wang and come up with a proposal.”

Liu Qin quickly jotted down the key points, repeated them to confirm she had them right, and then asked, ”Director, should I notify him now? Or should I wait until after you’ve met with Vice Director Wang?”

Yang Wenqing waved his hand. ”Go now. Vice Director Wang is very busy. Just have him send me his report in writing.”

”Yes, Director. I understand.” Liu Qin accepted the order and left.
