Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 1052: Chapter 493: To Each Their Own (First Update, Please Vote for Monthly Ticket!)

Edward Foster is clearly a foodie too, knowing the East African cuisine inside out.

Lawrence Winters’ eyes lit up instantly: ”I must go and see for myself!”

Mrs. Foster peeked through the door gap and saw Edward and Lawrence standing in the hallway talking animatedly, like a perfect couple.

She was so thrilled she couldn’t stop smiling.

For Edward to be deeply enamored with an academic girl was truly unexpected for Mrs. Foster.

That’s why she was committed to bringing them together.

When finding a daughter-in-law, she doesn’t focus on family background, but rather the woman’s qualities and abilities, and most importantly, good character.

Women with poor character, no matter how good other conditions are, cannot be married. Bringing one home would mean trouble and a source of family downfall.

People often say ”wealth doesn’t last three generations,” but why?

Mostly it’s because the lady of the house lacked quality, affecting the intelligence and abilities of the next generation.

If each generation declines, wouldn’t the family fall?

Mrs. Foster was happy and sent a text to their chef, asking him to buy more seafood and make his signature dishes well.

...

Abigail Henderson arrived at the hotel where Kenneth Osborne was staying and found that his room was quite large, with a suite including a living area rather than just a standard room.

She and Kenneth set up two laptops in the living area, along with some printed legal statutes and cases, and began their final analysis.

Kenneth asked her, ”You said you found a loophole, what kind of loophole? I looked at their legal documents and didn’t see any?”

Abigail spoke rather cautiously, asking back: ”What do you mean by saying ’seems like there are no loopholes’? If there’s a loophole, there is, if not, then there isn’t. ’Seems like’ is not accepted in legal terms.”

Kenneth: ”...”

Though he was rebutted, he was not upset at all, but rather appreciated Abigail’s professionalism.

He replied sincerely and humbly, ”Then Ms. Lawyer, please go on, I’m all ears.”

Seeing Kenneth was not stubborn, Abigail’s impression of him improved gradually.

She opened a document on her computer and said, ”Kenneth, let’s put it this way, they accused you of infringement mainly because they claim that your AI software contains a core program identical to a piece of code they registered under a copyright license years ago.”

”Moreover, your software even includes the author’s signature from their software.”

”The first point is still up for negotiation, however, the second point is indeed hard to refute.”

”I originally thought maybe you did ’borrow’ their code inadvertently and even copied their signature by accident.”

”But after talking to you several times and understanding your company’s business situation, I changed my mind.”

”If you truly didn’t ’borrow’ their code, it can only be a coincidence that made them feel you ’infringed’.”

”And as I said earlier, terms like ’seems like’ and ’feel’ hold no ground in legal matters.”

”So I stayed up all night yesterday using a tedious method.”

”I copied all the codes under their copyright license into a document, and then copied the segment of your AI code being accused also into a document, and let the computer compare them to see exactly how similar they are.”

”I found that except for that core code segment, the documents show no similarity whatsoever.”

Abigail showed the two compared documents to Kenneth.

Kenneth looked at the massive documents, hundreds of pages each, and helplessly tugged at the corners of his mouth, saying, ”...It doesn’t need to be this complicated. Just tell me what you need, and I can get it done for you in the simplest way.”

Abigail smiled as she explained, ”Kenneth, you’re an expert at this, I’m just showing my amateur skills. But when we submit our materials to the court as evidence, we have to use court-approved or even designated software for comparisons.”

”This document comparison software is outdated, but due to its simplicity and lack of other functions, it guarantees the credibility of the comparison results. In intellectual property cases, the court only recognizes document comparisons made with this software.”

Kenneth understood and nodded: ”Got it.”

Abigail continued, ”Upon examining this core code segment, indeed, it’s very similar to the other’s segment, with many places almost identical.”

”Note, I say ’almost’ because I found places where they differ.”

”The differences are very subtle, sometimes just a punctuation mark, or a space’s distance, or an extra ’and’ or ’or’, words like these.”

Kenneth nodded, and said questioningly, ”I’ve actually noticed these long ago but what can they prove? This particular code segment has nearly ninety-nine percent similarity. They’re accusing me of infringement, which I don’t agree with, but I understand why they would do so.”

Abigail clicked on another document with her mouse, smiling as she said, ”I don’t quite understand concrete codes, but I went through many computer code infringement cases and found a pretty interesting case from over ten years ago.”
