Sovereign of the Ashes

Vivian and the other Magus Civilization overlords were also watching the fierce battle unfold.

“The fact that Celestial Venerable Duobao and the others can hold back Makhast in his burst state is largely thanks to the Myriad Immortals Formation. Without it, the Three Poles Formation alone would never be enough to stop him,” Vivian said solemnly.

Having personally clashed with Makhast before, she understood his strength better than most.

Regalis, meanwhile, had turned her attention to another part of the battlefield.

There, Youjiu of the Phoenix Clan was locked in combat with a Rank Seven Pharaoh.

The unique laws of the Poison Dao intrigued even a soul overmage like the Mother of Dragons.

As she watched Youjiu fight, the idea of developing a “Poison Dragon Bloodline” suddenly crossed her mind.

Perhaps once the war was over, she could begin conducting experiments in that direction.

Although her thoughts had briefly wandered, Regalis still heard Vivian’s assessment.

She nodded in agreement before asking, “So, what do you think we should do?”

“Let’s give them a hand,” Vivian suggested.

At present, only the Amenkha Empire’s vanguard legions and the Third Pharaoh had reached the battlefield at the edge of the star domain.

The empire’s main army and the rest of its overlord-level powerhouses had yet to arrive.

Some were gathering war spoils. Others were recovering from their injuries, while the slower-moving legions were still making their way here.

The Amenkha Empire had yet to fully deploy its forces, while the allied forces of the Magus Civilization and the Immortal Realm were already waiting in full readiness.

If they failed to deal the enemy a decisive blow now, they might never get another opportunity like this.

After all, this strategic advantage had been bought with the lives of the Cosmic King and countless beings of the Grand Cosmic World.

At that moment, the Immortal Realm sages were already showing exactly how such an opportunity should be used.

Whether it was Celestial Venerable Duobao or the Great Sages of the Yao Clan, each of them was overwhelming their opponent.

Ganging up on a single enemy might be considered beneath a true master, but this was a war between civilizations. Who had the time to care about such things?

If morality truly ruled the battlefield, wars would never happen in the first place!

Regalis nodded. A dragon staff radiating oppressive law power appeared in her hand.

However, as a Bloodline Warlock, she still preferred the weapon she had wielded in the past.

Before she and Vivian could enter the battlefield, a crimson figure plunged into the fray ahead of them.

It charged straight toward Makhast.

Surging flames and the fire of nirvana erupted from its wings.

It was Morineo, the Rank Eight Fire Phoenix.

He had suffered serious injuries during his previous clash with Makhast, but the Phoenix Clan was best known for their ability to rise from the ashes.

Every member possessed an extraordinarily vigorous life force.

Thus, Morineo threw himself into the battlefield without the slightest hesitation.

Part of the reason was that he and the phoenixes of the Immortal Realm shared the same ancestral origin.

One crimson and the other golden, the two Rank Eight phoenixes circled Makhast from opposite sides.

Their radiance illuminated the battlefield, while their piercing cries echoed endlessly across the starry sky.

When Regalis and Vivian joined the fray shortly afterward, Makhast found himself surrounded by no fewer than six enemies!

With the Magus Civilization overlords and the Immortal Realm sages attacking together, even Makhast in his second unsealed state felt waves of pressure bearing down on him.

Yet rather than angering him, the mounting pressure drew a hearty laugh from the Third Pharaoh.

“How exhilarating! This is what I call a real battle!”

Makhast swung his demonic arms with all his might.

At this point, he no longer bothered targeting any particular overlord. He simply struck at whoever stood before him, fighting entirely as he pleased.

The Sealing Robe fluttered wildly around his body. The bandages, crafted from the skin of overlords, resonated with Makhast’s surging power and radiated boundless demonic might in every direction.

BOOM!

After enduring countless crushing impacts, Celestial Venerable Duobao’s replica of the Heaven Overturning Seal finally reached the limits of what a low-tier world-class secret treasure could withstand.

The square seal began to split down the middle as countless cracks spread outward from its center.

Yet Makhast remained completely unharmed.

His head was truly as hard as a rock!

Celestial Venerable Duobao remained unfazed.

He calmly put away the seal, which was now on the verge of breaking, and immediately drew another world-class secret treasure from his robe—a mirror with one red side and one white side.

It was yet another replica of a renowned Chan Sect spiritual treasure, the Yin-Yang Mirror!

It was said that the original Yin-Yang Mirror of the Immortal Realm had been lost many years ago, following the death of Master of the Red Essence, a disciple of Celestial Venerable Yuanshi.

Hence, the Yin-Yang Mirror now wielded by Celestial Venerable Duobao could only be a replica.

One side governed life, while the other governed death... The Yin-Yang Mirror was said to possess all sorts of incredible powers.

As for how much of the original treasure’s power Celestial Venerable Duobao’s replica retained, that remained to be seen.

This unusual treasure contained both life force and necromantic energy. The law fluctuations it released had already reached the level of a low-tier world-class secret treasure.

When Celestial Venerable Duobao poured his power into the Yin-Yang Mirror and directed its light toward Makhast, the Third Pharaoh paused for only a moment before throwing himself back into the battle.

The Yin-Yang Mirror did not seem to have much effect on him, but that hardly mattered.

Celestial Venerable Duobao still had plenty of treasures left.

Another world-class secret treasure slipped from his sleeve. This time, it was a jade ruyi.[1]

Dazzling green light radiated from its surface, which was decorated with three floral patterns.

This was no ordinary treasure. It was a replica of the Three-Jewel Jade Ruyi, Celestial Venerable Yuanshi’s weapon.

As a replica of the weapon wielded by the Chan Sect’s leading sage, it naturally possessed formidable power.

More importantly, this was the first mid-tier world-class secret treasure Celestial Venerable Duobao had brought out so far.

Even though it ranked near the bottom of that tier, its power still far surpassed the treasures he had used earlier.

A brilliant green light shot from Celestial Venerable Duobao’s hand and struck Makhast squarely in the neck.

The impact caused the Third Pharaoh to stagger.

This time, Celestial Venerable Duobao’s attack had clearly struck much harder!

Makhast, however, was no ordinary opponent. After taking a direct hit from the Three-Jewel Jade Ruyi, he merely shook his head and continued fighting as though nothing had happened.

Such terrifying strength truly lived up to his reputation as the current pillar of the Amenkha Empire, holding the empire together while the First Pharaoh, Ozman Dias, remained in seclusion.

Celestial Venerable Duobao continued pulling one spiritual treasure after another from his sleeves. One could not help but wonder just how many treasures he had hidden in there.

The twin phoenixes cried out in unison, pressing Makhast fiercely from both flanks.

Meanwhile, the Bull King and the Mother of Dragons did their best to withstand his demonic might from the front.

Vivian, the former leader of the Northern Witches Council, restrained him from a distance with an unrelenting barrage of spells.

The Eye of Sealing emitted a faint glow in her hand.

This high-tier world-class secret treasure had an extremely long cooldown period, and she was not even certain whether it could be activated yet.

Even if it could, Vivian had no intention of using it so soon.

After all, Makhast had yet to use the Sealing Chains wrapped around his arm!

I wonder whether the Eye of Sealing can stop his third unsealed state...

Vivian tightened her grip on the treasure as an uneasy feeling rose in her heart.

1. Translator’s Note: A ruyi is a curved decorative Chinese scepter that translates literally to “as you wish” or “according to your desires”. Evolving from ancient back-scratchers, it became an auspicious symbol of good fortune, power, and longevity, frequently crafted from jade, wood, or precious metals. This is what a ruyi looks like: ☜
