Chapter 1098: Chapter 1099: The Demon Clan Withdraws! (2 Updates)

Commander Bai of the War Preparatory Camp almost couldn’t hold back from spitting blood upon receiving the news.

If he had known earlier, even if he was given ten times the Elemental Crystals, he would never have agreed for Yan Chuchu, this troublemaker, to join his War Preparatory Camp!

Going to the battlefield with the War Preparatory Camp, are you freaking kidding me!

Yet that Yan Chuchu actually had the nerve to boast, ”This great opportunity for military achievement was something I fought for you, no need to thank me too much, okay!”

Thank? I’ll thank your grandpa!

It wasn’t that Commander Bai was afraid of death, it was just with this batch of Women’s Army, how much of a difference could they make?

However, since the orders from above had been given, Commander Bai could only follow them. Seeing the army on the verge of annihilation, he had long been prepared for the bloody battlefield.

Under full speed, the War Preparatory Camp quickly reached the last stronghold at Black Water Plain.

This was a battlefield after five days and nights of bloody fighting, corpses everywhere, the air thick with a nauseating smell of blood.

Miss Chuchu barely smelled that stench and almost forgot all her bold declarations.

Is this war?

How can so many people die!

When they arrived, the Demon Clan and Human Clan armies had already fully engaged, the entire Black Water River was one big battlefield.

Cries of killing, sinister laughs, roars...

The whole battlefield was a chaos, formations and order were gone, the Human Clan’s large army had been completely scattered, each fighting on their own, being slowly devoured by the enemy, several times their number.

Commander Bai took a deep breath; the tragic situation inevitably ignited the fury and bloodthirstiness in his chest. He drew his weapon fiercely and shouted loudly, ”All soldiers, listen: your task is to save as many wounded as possible, do not engage head-on with the Demon Clan!”

”Yes!”

The Women’s Army under his command shouted in unison, then Commander Bai charged towards a Demon King with his sword.

This Demon King had already slaughtered on all sides, his hands stained with the blood of Human Clan soldiers.

”Ugh...”

Yan Chuchu retched, the strong nausea rendering her almost powerless, let alone fighting on the battlefield.

”What’s wrong? Before in the Commander Tent, you were full of confidence!”

Lin Xian’er gently patted her on the back, saying sternly, ”Weren’t you the one eager to be on the front lines?”

”How was I supposed to know so many people would die? Goodness, blood everywhere, corpses and severed limbs all over, this is nothing like the drills I’ve seen before!”

Yan Chuchu took several deep breaths before calming down a bit, starting to get accustomed to the pungent smell of blood.

In fact, it wasn’t just her; about thirty percent of this Women’s Army were equally terrified by the heaps of corpses. They had never seen such a grim scene before.

”Since you’re here, make yourself useful.”

Tuoba Yan had already summoned the Heavenly Strategy Treasure, frowning, she said, ”If you don’t want to end up a corpse, then muster all your strength and kill the enemy before you!”

After speaking, Tuoba Yan rushed out, Lin Xian’er gave Yan Chuchu an encouraging look and followed. With Tuoba Yan’s capabilities, unless she met a Demon King with great spiritual power, it was unlikely anyone could harm her.

As for ordinary Demon Kings, if trapped by her Tianhen Illusion Technique, they could even be counter-killed by her.

Tuoba Yan was responsible for killing the enemy, while Lin Xian’er rescued people; their cooperation was rather seamless.

”Hmph! If you can do it, so can I!”

Not one to admit defeat, Yan Chuchu, seeing the female soldiers from the War Preparatory Camp enter the battle one after another, gritted her teeth and charged in with her sword.

Her capabilities were quite decent; ordinary Demon Soldiers couldn’t come within ten feet of her without being instantly cut down.

After all, being the apple of the eye of the Southern Army Commander, her sword was a Holy Artifact augmented with numerous Magic Treasures, giving her the strength to contend even against ordinary Low-level Demon Kings.

”Reinforcements have arrived?”

Jiang Xiaofan and his few personal guards, almost numb from fighting, suddenly heard the horn sound of the Human Clan army, a glimmer of hope flashing in their eyes.

”Reinforcements are here!”

Jiang Xiaofan shouted loudly, and soon, near-hysterical shouts echoed across the battlefield.

Reinforcements have arrived!

Although unsure of their number or combat ability, the appearance of these reinforcements undeniably uplifted the war-stricken soldiers.

For a moment, the morale of the Human Clan army soared, each soldier exhibiting tenfold bravery, catching the Demon Clan off guard.

However, this situation did not last long.

A mere thousand reinforcements, and from a War Preparatory Camp not skilled in combat, could hardly change the battle’s course.

The Demon Clan army soon realized these so-called reinforcements were but a facade and immediately regrouped, within an hour, the Human Clan army was once more overpowered.

The number of casualties kept climbing.

Of the 200,000 Sky Peak Camp soldiers, after fighting to this moment, less than 20,000 remained!

However, most of these were elite troops from the Black Armored Cavalry Army, so they could barely hold the line, but in such an exhausted state, the survival of Black Water Plain’s last stronghold seemed grim.

The designation of Sky Peak Camp might be entirely removed today!

...

Tianmang Fortress.

”What! The Demon Clan is retreating?”

From the commanding seat, Yuan Tiangang heard successive reports of Demon Clan withdrawals from various battlefields, disbelief showing clearly in his eyes.

”Yes, at Hu Yang Pass, Luoshi Pass, Qifeng Gorge, and Zangfeng Plain, the Demon Clan army has begun to pull back, for unknown reasons!”

The messenger said loudly, obviously with a touch of joy on his face.

”Why would the Demon Clan suddenly retreat?”

Yuan Tiangang furrowed his brow, full of suspicion. Given the current situation, the Human Clan army was retreating on all fronts, under the overpowering momentum of the Demon Clan, how could they be retreating just like that? There might be a trick involved!

”Sun Junshi, what do you think?”

Yuan Tiangang turned to his think tank, strategist Sun Boce.

”The simultaneous withdrawal from all major battlefields suggests that it’s not a trap. More likely, there’s been unrest within the upper echelons of the Demon Clan. From what I know, the majority of the Demon Clan attacking Tianmang Fortress were subservient to the Qiongqi Demon Emperor, many of whom were compelled to fight against the Human Clan.”

”Daring to hypothesize, if there were unexpected issues among the Demon Clan’s leadership, leaving the frontier battle no longer a priority, these so-called Demon Clan coalition forces would naturally disband. After all, they’re not true soldiers at heart.”

”Hmm.” Yuan Tiangang slightly nodded. Sun Boce’s conjectures seemed reasonable.

If Ling Feng were here, he would likely be deeply impressed with Sun Boce’s wisdom; through pure speculation, he had almost perfectly deduced the reason for the Demon Clan’s retreat!

”Haha, if that’s true, our army can finally catch a breather. In these past days, every battlefield has been strained to the limits; this is undoubtedly the toughest battle I’ve faced since I became the Guardian of Tianmang Fortress!”

Yuan Tiangang slowly exhaled; just then, another officer rushed into the tent, speaking urgently: ”Reporting to the Grand Commander, there’s big trouble! I just learned that Miss Chuchu has sneaked into Sky Peak Camp and departed with the army to the Black Water Plain battlefield!”

”What, Black Water Plain!”

Yuan Tiangang jumped out of his seat. That crazy girl, how could she have gone there!

”Send the order, marshal the troops... never mind, I’ll personally lead them!”

Yuan Tiangang slammed the table and rushed out of the camp, silently praying: Girl, oh girl, please don’t let anything happen to you!
