Chapter 553: Chapter 553: Court Summons

Old Man Cai was living in a dream world!

He still had no idea that Granny Cai was preparing to smack him hard with the club of the law.

For five days straight, everything was quiet.

Old Man Cai grew even more complacent, thinking Granny Cai didn’t dare come looking for trouble because she was scared.

He had already made up his mind: if they wouldn’t give his younger son the house, he would get a divorce.

To save face, his wife, his son, and his daughter-in-law would all give in to him.

Chen Xiaoxiu had been incredibly tender these past few days. Disregarding Old Man Cai’s advanced age, she would even get frisky at night!

Not only that, but to help set the mood, she even stewed soft-shelled turtle soup for Old Man Cai.

Cai Xuejun also called him ”Dad” nonstop all day. For Old Man Cai, these days were exciting and happy.

And because of this, Lawyer Wang managed to photograph Old Man Cai and Chen Xiaoxiu going grocery shopping, hand in hand!

There was an even more shocking scene: in a small park, the fifty-something, middle-aged Chen Xiaoxiu performed a ”monkey steals the peach” on Old Man Cai.

How scandalous!

It was an eyesore!

Even Lawyer Wang thought Old Man Cai was a real old bastard!

No wonder Granny Cai wanted a divorce!

Just as Old Man Cai felt he had given his wife at home the cold shoulder long enough and was preparing to go home for a showdown—hoping to live a happy life with both women—he received a court summons.

A postal worker even delivered it personally into Old Man Cai’s hands.

”Uncle Cai, this is a court summons for you. Make sure you read it so you don’t miss the court date.”

Old Man Cai was taken aback. ”I’ve been keeping to myself lately. Who would sue me?”

The postman was from the neighborhood, so of course he knew about Old Man Cai’s recent activities.

But he was an outsider, and a government employee at that, so it wasn’t his place to comment.

”I wouldn’t know about that. Anyway, the summons is in your hands now. Just tear it open and you’ll find out, won’t you?”

Old Man Cai figured he had a point. With a puzzled look, he tore open the envelope and read the contents.

Old Man Cai’s calm expression suddenly turned vicious, his face flushing red and pale with rage.

”A divorce? She actually dares to divorce me? That shameless old hag, isn’t she ashamed of herself?”

Hearing this, the postman nearly burst out laughing.

’Who’s the shameless one here?’

’Isn’t it because you, you dirty old man, are having an affair that Granny Cai wants a divorce?’

”Uncle Cai, don’t be angry. Take things one step at a time. I still have mail to deliver, so I’ll be going now!”

The postman hopped on his bicycle, his mailbag in tow, and quickly rode away.

Old Man Cai stared at the summons in his hand again and again, the rage in his heart so intense he wanted to burn it to ashes.

But soon, Old Man Cai calmed down.

’She must be angry because I haven’t been home lately. She’s just trying to scare me with a divorce.’

Chen Xiaoxiu returned from grocery shopping, beaming and winking suggestively.

”Old Cai, look what I bought! This is a top-quality earth dragon! I also bought a chicken, so we can stew them together for a Dragon and Phoenix soup!”

”Eating this will definitely make you as vigorous as a dragon and fierce as a tiger, just like in your youth! Cai Xuejun went to a friend’s house to play today and isn’t coming back. It’ll just be the two of us at home, and I’ll take good care of you.”

Normally, Old Man Cai might have been in the mood.

But the summons in his hand made him quite annoyed.

’Divorce... such a great threat, and my wife had to be the one to use it first.’

’If I use it too, she’ll be backed into a corner, and then won’t we really have to get a divorce?’

After thinking it over, Old Man Cai regretted that he could no longer use divorce to threaten his wife.

Seeing that Old Man Cai wasn’t as enthusiastic as usual, Chen Xiaoxiu looked surprised and quickly asked, ”Old Cai, what’s wrong?”

The old man handed the summons to Chen Xiaoxiu. ”Look at this. Xueqin’s mother is actually suing me for divorce!”

”A divorce?” Chen Xiaoxiu was stunned for a moment, then a sharp glint appeared in her eyes.

’If they get divorced, couldn’t she marry Old Man Cai and become the legitimate mistress of the house?’

’With her skills, she could wrap Old Man Cai around her little finger.’

’Then wouldn’t Old Man Cai’s half of the family assets fall right into her and her son’s hands?’

Although Chen Xiaoxiu was eagerly anticipating Old Man Cai’s divorce, she couldn’t appear too desperate.

”Even though I want to be a real husband and wife with you, I don’t want you to be separated from your wife and son. I can endure being wronged, but I can’t let you be wronged.”

”Sister is probably just saying that she wants a divorce because she’s angry. You should go back and talk to her properly. I know my place. I would never destroy your family.”

Seeing Chen Xiaoxiu’s teary eyes, Old Man Cai’s heart clenched.

Old Man Cai knew his wife was very capable and that the family’s assets were all thanks to her.

But when he was with his wife, he always felt insecure, like he couldn’t stand up straight.

But with Chen Xiaoxiu, Old Man Cai felt like a real man, someone who was admired.

”You’re so understanding! Just remember that you’re the one in my heart! As for that old hag at home, I’ll give her a way out. If she takes it, this whole thing will be over.”

”If she’s not willing to take it, then I don’t want to force myself to be with her either. After all, I’m not getting any younger, and we don’t have much time left to spend our days together.”

Chen Xiaoxiu was overjoyed to hear this. ”Old Cai, you’re so good to me! You’re the best man in the world!”

Old Man Cai had originally planned to go back home that evening, but Chen Xiaoxiu’s sweet talk and flattery made his head spin.

At night, though the man was old, his heart was not, and there were many more tricks up his sleeve.

The day after receiving the summons, Old Man Cai took a day off from work and finally returned home.

It was Sunday, so Cai Xueqin was not at work.

Hearing a knock, he opened the door with a steamed bun in one hand.

When he saw Old Man Cai outside, Cai Xueqin’s face instantly darkened. ”You still know the way home?”

Old Man Cai was not pleased to be spoken to like that by his son. ”You little rebel, who do you think you’re talking to? Am I your old man, or are you mine?”

Cai Xueqin snorted. ”I’d rather not have a shameless father like you! You’re despicable and vile!”

Old Man Cai raised his hand to slap Cai Xueqin, but Cai Xueqin dodged it.

In the past, Cai Xueqin would never have done that.

But now, his father’s every action disgusted him, so naturally, he no longer respected him.

”You bastard! You unfilial brat!” Old Man Cai cursed. ”I’m going to beat you to death today!”

Granny Cai rushed out of the room with a rolling pin and started whacking Old Man Cai with all her might.

”You old coot, you’re a disgrace! At your age, you’re acting like a young man and having an affair! Your son, grandson, and granddaughter can’t hold their heads up because of you. They’ve become a laughingstock.”

”I, Zhang Xiaohua, have been strong-willed since I was a child. Since you’re fooling around outside, let’s get a divorce. The household registration book, our ID cards—I’ve already got them ready. Let’s go to the Civil Affairs Bureau right now.”

After a few blows from the rolling pin, Old Man Cai was enraged.

Although Old Man Cai was old, he was still a man. He snatched the rolling pin from Granny Cai’s hand and was about to hit her with it.

Seeing this, Cai Xueqin, who was in the prime of his life, grabbed the rolling pin from his father’s hand. ”As long as I’m here, you won’t lay a hand on my mom!”
