Ascending to Godhood: I Can Foresee All Futures

Chapter 260: Chapter 155: Sword Intent

The Changshan Yang Clan.

Inside an antique-filled, lavish boudoir, Madam Yang stood dazedly gazing at an ink wash painting on the wall. She wore a sea-green long skirt, her hair adorned with an ornamental pin.

The taut fabric of her dress revealed the deep ravine of her cleavage, perfectly accentuating Madam Yang’s mature charm.

On the scroll was a young man in official robes. He had sword-like brows, star-like eyes, a broad back, and a narrow waist. His eyes, in particular, burned with a fiery spirit. It was none other than a portrait of Chen Sheng.

Ever since Chen Sheng had left, Madam Yang, aside from diligently persisting in her cultivation each day, would spend her time carefully studying his portrait, her eyes filled with longing and nostalgia.

And it was precisely because of this attachment to Chen Sheng that Madam Yang was able to consistently devote herself, body and soul, to her practice, causing her Cultivation to rise steadily.

She constantly dreamt of the day Chen Sheng would return to fulfill his promise.

But to Madam Yang’s utter helplessness and melancholy, the news she managed to gather indicated that the gap between her and Chen Sheng had not shrunk; on the contrary, it was growing ever wider.

He was now one of the renowned Ning’an Ten Heroes, while she remained but an ordinary woman. Occasionally, Madam Yang would be struck by self-doubt, thinking Chen Sheng would never come back for her.

’After all, I have no great advantages to offer.’

But it was an inner fire that kept her going.

SLAM.

Suddenly, a violent gust of wind blew open the half-closed window lattice. Madam Yang frowned, set down the scroll, and walked to the windowsill. She looked around, and only relaxed after seeing nothing unusual.

However, just as Madam Yang had finished closing the window, a pair of strong hands suddenly covered her eyes.

Madam Yang’s heart lurched. She instinctively struck back with her elbow and was about to cry out for help.

But in the next moment, a familiar voice forced the words back down her throat.

”Don’t turn around, Madam. It’s the County Magistrate.”

Hearing that familiar voice and tone, Madam Yang froze on the spot as if struck by lightning.

Feeling the moisture on his palms, Chen Sheng lowered his hands.

”Why are you crying?”

”I’m... I’m not crying...”

Madam Yang turned her head. Her eyes, moist with tears, studied Chen Sheng intently, as if trying to drink in the sight of him. Then, she suddenly let out a soft laugh, a smile blooming on her face.

”What are you doing here all of a sudden?”

”I came back just to see you.”

A smile played on Chen Sheng’s lips.

”Thank you.”

Madam Yang threw herself into Chen Sheng’s arms, wiping the dampness from the corners of her eyes.

’I know it’s a lie, but I want to believe it. If he’s willing to lie to me, it must mean I still have a place in his heart.’

’That’s enough for me.’

’I don’t dare ask for more.’

”You’re going to thank me with just words?”

Chen Sheng patted Madam Yang’s bottom.

’Sentimental moments were never my strong suit, and I don’t much care for them. I much prefer this direct approach. Once I inject some ’positive energy’ into her, all those negative emotions will vanish on their own.’

”As you wish.”

Madam Yang shot Chen Sheng a look, then slowly bent over.

From the moment she had seen Chen Sheng, it wasn’t just the corners of her eyes that had grown moist.

.....

「Later.」

Standing in the boudoir, Chen Sheng carefully examined the ink-wash portrait on the wall, nodding in approval. ’Not bad at all,’ he thought, quite pleased. ’It’s actually very well done.’

”Xueyao painted that. What do you think?”

Madam Yang asked with a smile as she gracefully walked to Chen Sheng’s side.

She was very satisfied with their recent... conversation.

Chen Sheng had shown more than enough sincerity, and she, in turn, had repaid him with a generous gift in kind.

”It’s good. As expected of a lady from a Noble Family. I thought you had painted it, Madam.”

’The name Yang Xueyao isn’t unfamiliar. Gao Qiheng’s fiancée... I almost ended up engaged to her myself. But besides that, she doesn’t have much going for her.’

’Otherwise, I wouldn’t have minded... doing some ’business’ with both the aunt and the niece.’

”When are you leaving?”

Madam Yang shot Chen Sheng a look.

”What, so eager to see me go?”

”I’d love for you to stay forever, but I know that’s impossible.”

Madam Yang shook her head and sighed softly.

”Don’t worry, I can stay for a few more days.”

Chen Sheng said comfortingly, soothing her.

’The meeting between the Cyan Flood Dragon Alliance and the Taiping Dao is on the twenty-seventh of the fifth month. Today’s only the twenty-third. Time is tight, but not critically so.’

’I have some time to help her with her cultivation.’

Hearing that Chen Sheng wasn’t leaving the next day, a radiant smile immediately blossomed on Madam Yang’s face.

”I heard you snatched up a noble lady in Ning’an. So, who’s prettier, her or me?”

”You each have your own strengths.”

Chen Sheng feigned a moment of deep thought before giving his serious evaluation. ’Madam Yang and Wang Zilan are both remarkably beautiful. The former has a better figure and a more mature allure, while the latter possesses a cool, aloof temperament and is also skilled in a Water Element Technique.’

’It’s hard to compare them.’

’But compared to Wang Zilan’s shrewdness, I do prefer Madam Yang’s disposition.’

Madam Yang was a little disappointed, but she didn’t let it show. Instead, she wrapped her arms around Chen Sheng’s narrow waist.

”I’ve also learned many new things recently, all for you. Care to try them out?”

”You’re still up for it?”

Chen Sheng was a little surprised.

’The gap in our Cultivation is huge. I held back during our last... exchange. If I hadn’t, with my physique from the Dual Cultivation of Body and Spirit, I could have seriously injured her.’

”I can.”

”Never mind. Tomorrow.”

Chen Sheng thought for a moment and decided against it.

’I know she’s been celibate for a long time and is more than ready for a fight. But I’ll be here for a few more days. If I ’wound’ her too badly in one go, I’m the one who’ll be losing out later.’
