Ascending to Godhood: I Can Foresee All Futures

Chapter 229: Chapter 142: Who Said I Was Going to Marry You?

Wang Zilan was at a loss for words, her expression shifting indeterminately.

”I am feeling a bit weary. I shall take my leave now.”

”As you wish, Miss Wang.”

Chen Sheng gestured with a raised hand.

Wang Zilan gave a slight bow before turning to leave the restaurant. However, as she was weighing the pros and cons of the matter, she was surprised to see a nearby parked carriage suddenly begin to move, slowly approaching her.

”Zhilan, are you alright?”

The carriage curtain parted to reveal Lu Maozhi. It seemed he had cleaned himself up, no longer looking as wretched as he did during the Song Family’s downfall. Of course, having just been defeated, he still lacked his usual suave demeanor.

There was even a hint of urgency in his voice.

”What are you doing here?”

Surprise flickered in Wang Zilan’s eyes.

”I was worried that bastard Chen Sheng might try to harm you.”

He was deeply infatuated with Wang Zilan and naturally couldn’t rest easy knowing she was alone with another man. Thus, as soon as he had found out her whereabouts, he had rushed here to wait for her.

Had he heard a cry of alarm from Wang Zilan, he would have immediately swooped in to rescue her like a hero from the heavens.

Wang Zilan’s expression turned livid.

’It wasn’t Chen Sheng who was making a move on me—it was me who had been presumptuous.’

’I practically threw myself at him, and he still turned me down.’

His words were undoubtedly rubbing salt in her wounds.

”Are you cursing me, Young Master Lu?”

Suddenly, a voice drifted down from the second floor. Lu Maozhi looked up to see Chen Sheng standing by the window, his hands clasped behind his back. He was looking down at Lu Maozhi, his eyes glinting with coldness.

”Cap... Captain Chen, I...”

”Get lost!”

Chen Sheng said coldly, not waiting for Lu Maozhi to explain.

A flash of anger crossed Lu Maozhi’s face, but the thought of his still-aching injuries made him swallow his pride. He turned to Wang Zilan instead.

”Zhilan, shall I escort you back to the Wang Family estate?”

”That won’t be necessary.”

Seeing that Lu Maozhi lacked the courage to even talk back to Chen Sheng, letting himself be berated like a dog, Wang Zilan found him even more repulsive. She was now actually starting to lean toward Chen Sheng’s earlier proposal.

She immediately turned and walked toward the Wang Family carriage, which was parked nearby.

”Zhilan, you...”

Seeing how cold Wang Zilan was toward him, Lu Maozhi’s expression shifted, and a grim look flashed in his eyes.

’I never thought Wang Zilan would turn on me so quickly.’

’What in the world happened between her and Chen Sheng?’

Lu Maozhi’s brow furrowed. Judging by Wang Zilan’s attitude, the marriage alliance was likely in jeopardy.

’But how can I just accept this?’

He had adored Wang Zilan for years and had long since resolved to make her his wife. Of course, there was another reason: the Profound Yin Qi she possessed was also extremely important to him.

Not only would it advance his Cultivation, but it would also deepen his own foundation.

’I can’t wait any longer,’ Lu Maozhi realized.

’This marriage alliance has to happen, and soon.’

Furthermore, the score between him and Chen Sheng had to be settled. He knew full well that today’s defeat wasn’t just a huge loss of face for Luoyun Manor.

His own name had become a laughingstock, and he had to reclaim his honor.

And for that, Lu Maozhi already had a plan.

He recalled that a certain Li Xuance of the Iron Sword Sect seemed to bear a great deal of animosity toward Chen Sheng. He had even made a bold proclamation that he would challenge Chen Sheng to a duel once he broke through to the next realm.

If he could persuade Li Xuance to make a move, the chances of defeating Chen Sheng would be high. After all, Li Xuance’s power was far more terrifying than his own.

He was just a hair’s breadth away from breaking through to the Profound Gang Realm.

’That should be more than enough to crush Chen Sheng.’

From the second-floor window, watching Wang Zilan’s carriage recede into the distance, a slow smile crept across Chen Sheng’s lips.
