Path To Godhood Begins With Marrying Wife And Gaining SSS Rank Skill

Chapter 778: 778: Uncomfortable Silence

While the family heads waited for the response from the Emperors, things had already started moving behind the scenes.

They were still sitting together and discussing their possible future. None of them knew that the answer they were waiting for had already been decided.

Ethan’s suggestion had been sent to the four Emperors, and after a brief discussion, they had sent their response.

They were more than happy to oblige with the arrangement.

The reason was simple.

If these aristocratic families could be kept under control and made to carry out their bidding, there was no need to destroy them completely. They had influence, connections and knowledge about the Empire that could still be useful.

Having such people under their control was much better than allowing them to become another source of trouble.

They could be used as puppets while the Emperors remained above them.

Ethan had also asked for reinforcements.

He knew that dealing with the four great families would not be easy, especially if things went wrong. Their roots had spread throughout the Empire, and they had hidden forces that could not be ignored.

The Emperors agreed to send the required reinforcement.

Ethan had also asked for clear details about their cooperation. He wanted everything to be settled properly, including what the families would be allowed to keep and how the gains from the remaining resources would be divided.

The Emperors gave a green signal for him to carry out the task.

They had no objection to Ethan’s plan.

At the end of the message, however, they made one thing very clear.

They did not want any troublesome situation.

If the aristocratic families cooperated, they could be kept alive and allowed to retain part of their foundation.

But if they refused to comply or tried to create another problem, then there was no need to hesitate.

They should be dealt with.

The message was simple.

Cooperate and survive.

Refuse and face the consequences.

Ethan folded the message after reading it and remained silent for a moment.

The four Emperors had effectively handed the matter over to him.

And they had given him enough support to carry it out.

Meanwhile, the four family heads were still waiting.

They had no idea that their fate had already been discussed.

They were still wondering whether the Emperors would accept their proposal or demand something else from them.

They did not know that the response they feared had already arrived.

They did not know that Ethan had already received permission to move against them if necessary.

And most importantly, they did not know that while they were waiting for the Emperors to decide their fate, their names had already been placed on Ethan’s list.

The four families were still thinking about how they would survive the coming changes.

None of them realized that the first move had already been made.

........

Hall returned to Ethan after finishing his work and quietly entered the room. Ethan was sitting at the table with several reports spread out in front of him. His expression was calm, but his eyes were focused as he went through each piece of information.

Hall stopped before him and bowed.

”My Lord, the pawns have been selected and already been contacted.”

Ethan raised his eyes from the documents.

”How did they respond?”

”They have agreed. I have also verified the subsequent data. Their backgrounds, connections and current positions have all been checked.”

Ethan nodded slowly and picked up another report.

He went through the information again himself. He did not want to leave any major weakness behind. The people they had selected would be important for the next step, and if even one of them decided to betray them at the wrong moment, the entire plan could become troublesome.

”If anyone develops any second thoughts, inform me immediately.”

Hall lowered his head.

”Yes, My Lord.”

Ethan’s eyes became slightly colder.

”I don’t want weeds growing after we have already prepared the field. If any one of them changes their mind, we will wipe out the weed before it can sprout.”

Hall understood the meaning behind his words.”We will keep watching them.”

Ethan continued reviewing the reports.

One after another, he checked the information Hall had brought. The selected people had different backgrounds, different positions and different reasons for agreeing to cooperate, but all of them had been carefully checked.

After making sure that everything was in place, Ethan finally placed the last report on the table.

He leaned back and let out a quiet breath.

The preparations were complete.

The pawns had been selected.

The necessary information had been gathered.

The route had already been prepared.

The Emperors had given their approval.

Now there was no reason to delay.

Ethan stood up and adjusted his clothes. His expression became calm again as he looked toward Hall.

”Now onto the Capital. Let’s just finish the task at hand.”

Hall immediately bowed.

”Yes, My Lord.”

The two left the room, while the reports remained scattered across the table.

.....

A week had passed since the four families had sent their message, yet no reply had arrived. The situation inside the Imperial Capital remained strangely quiet. The four families had been expecting either a response from the Emperors or at least an envoy who would come to discuss the matter, but nothing happened. There was no attack, no warning and not even a disturbance around the territory controlled by the four families.

The silence itself was starting to make them uncomfortable.

Inside a large meeting room, the heads of the four families sat around a long table. Several reports were placed before them, but none of them contained anything useful. The Head of Ambrose, Cedric Ambrose, slowly tapped his fingers against the table while staring at the closed door.

His expression was calm, but the slight tension between his brows showed that he was becoming impatient. Across from him sat Valen Halcrest, the head of the Halcrest Family. He had a serious expression as he went through another report. Beside him was Garrick Cravik, the head of the Cravik Family.

His broad arms were folded across his chest, and his expression had become increasingly impatient during the past few days. The last person was Dorian Devine, the head of the Devine Family. Unlike the others, he wore a faint smile that did not reach his eyes.

For several moments, none of them spoke. Finally, Cedric broke the silence.

”They should have replied or at least they should have already sent an Envoy to discuss.”

He glanced at the others before adding, ”It has already been a week.”

Valen slowly placed the report in his hand onto the table and said, ”Perhaps they are still discussing how to handle us.”

Cedric shook his head slightly.
