Reborn as the Genius Son of the Richest Family

Chapter 1340: Theresa’s thoughts

What made these ’normal’ people off guard was the fact that it wasn’t just the skills that the Rebornians had grown.

It was also their equipment. Somehow, their Mithril Artifact weapons would grow new aspects, like a more curved handguard, a new infused gemstone in its blade, or a new color in its material.

They realized here and now that all of their equipment were Mithril Artifacts. Their weapons. Their armors. Their shields. Their boots! Even their backpacks that carried their everyday supplies were ladened with Mithril Artifacts that changed upon some kind of golden aura manifesting inside it.

It was such an overwhelming sense of grandeur that the Conglomerate soldiers felt themselves insecure.

They were supposed to be the one with the best weapons and materials. But why did their Mithril Relics look like rusted weapons compared to what these Rebornian soldiers wore?

”Michael... what is going on with your soldiers?!”

Caliburn immediately turned towards Michael, asking him for an explanation.

”Oh, well, that’s a Rebornian secret, haha.”

Michael could only tell them that this kind of ’perk’ was something that only Rebornian citizens would get access to.

He did tell them about what it could do. About the things that they could purchase, and everything else.

”So it’s true?!” Levi asked, jaw on the ground. ”You can purchase skills with that... thing in their heads?”

Michael swayed his head back and forth. ”Well, it’s more like the ’system’ allows these soldiers to choose what kind of evolution path their skills could take.

For example, if a soldier’s Aubility Power focused on creating solid walls out of anything, then they could have the chance to evolve that power into something meant for offense, like maybe adding spikes to it. Or they could just reinforce its defense and make it thicker.”

He tried to explain the basics of the evolution of skills, but they were completely clueless. They were still of the opinion that these skills were something that randomly manifests in a person.

What they didn’t know was that it was actually based on a person’s perception of reality.

If they think that the world needs more life, then they may manifest an Aubility Power related to growing greenery and stuff.

Or just like Michael, he wanted to let everyone be comfortable, so his Aubility Power had something to do with adaptability.

And when he told them this, their eyes were wide open as if he’d just told them the secret to life, love, and the universe.

”Oh my gods...”

”So it’s like that...”

”I never knew it could be that simple...”

Michael was kind of sad that despite being such high-stage cultivators, they never even knew how their own powers worked.

”So... that means that we can also evolve our own skills like that?” Theresa asked, her eyes glinting with all kinds of possibilities.

”Theoretically, yes.”

”Yes, theoretically,” Theresa replied. ”But they can only be purposefully changed with that... system of yours, correct?”

Michael eventually nodded.

It took Theresa a few seconds before she displayed a look of pure determination.

”I will denounce the Goldstone Conglomerate and become a Rebornian,” she suddenly announced.

And from her words, both Levi and Caliburn were completely shocked to their bones.

This... this was just too much! What did she mean by denouncing her own company? That was worse than a betrayal!

Does she not know that the Goldstone Conglomerate was owned by her family? By choosing to abandon them and instead turning towards the Rebornian side, she would be essentially turning her back on her family and be praying for their downfall?

This was a taboo that was way too much to even joke about.

”Woah,” Michael could only mutter out. ”Are you sure about this?”

Theresa nodded, her eyes completely filled with longing and determination. ”I’ve long wanted to strike it out on my own. The Goldstone Conglomerate... my family... They’re way too focused on business. We’re basically blood related only by technicality. And I don’t want that anymore. I want to be part of your company. Your nation. Your ideals.”

Michael looked straight into Theresa’s eyes, searching for the truth in her soul.

And using his Supreme Talent, he was able to see the mana gathering in her heart.

With the help of ChatJK6, they were able to ascertain her true intentions.

[She truly wants to join the Reborn company. Half of it is because she believes in your nation. But half of it is because she has no other choice. There is a lot of Dark mana gathering in her heart as soon as the Goldstone Conglomerate is mentioned.

This suggests that she thinks that she will be punished by her Conglomerate for failing the Chasm. And she believes that if she were to return to her estate empty handed, some of her siblings may come for her head.]

Michael heard ChatJK6’s assessment and couldn’t help but feel sorry for Theresa.

Conglomerates could be cruel and coldblooded. That’s the result of all the successions happening around. Everyone was willing to cross unforgivable boundaries in order to obtain that crown.

”You’re not turning your back on the Goldstone Company,” he said to Theresa. ”They’re turning your back on you.”

She winced as he said that, before laughing wryly. ”Looks like I can’t hide anything from you. Yes. It’s true. This failure of mine will spread a signal like blood on water. My siblings, my competitors, they will want to take me down in order to get my part of the Conglomerate.”

Levi nodded grimly on the side. He was the one who understood her worries the most. In fact, that’s one of the things he’d been worrying about this entire time.

”Even if you don’t accept my requests, I was already planning on separating from the Goldstone Conglomerate. Why do you think I’ve gathered an entire Coalition? It’s so that I’ll have more people to depend on once I inevitably sour my connections with my family.

So... will you please hear my plea? If not me, then my soldiers. They don’t deserve this fate that has befallen upon me.”
