Rebate King: Every Beauty I Spoil Makes Me a Billionaire

The crowd erupted into frantic whispers.

”Oh my god, Maya Zimmerman is here too?”

”What is happening? Two campus beauties in the same place? Over Stan Harrison?”

”Why is Maya defending him? What’s their relationship?”

”I’ve never seen two school beauties go head to head before. This is unprecedented.”

”Stan Harrison must be collecting them. There’s no other explanation.”

Vivian’s eyes narrowed. She hadn’t anticipated reinforcements, and certainly not from someone at Maya’s social tier.

”Did you know,” Vivian said, pivoting to address Maya with icy precision, ”that this man stole my umbrella yesterday?”

Maya didn’t miss a beat.

”From what I understand, it was his umbrella. He bought it. With his own money. At a convenience store.” She tilted her head. ”You splashed him with your car, soaked him head to toe, and then tried to take his umbrella by force. If he didn’t want to hand it over, how exactly does that make him the thief?”

She paused, letting the logic settle over the crowd like a net. She and Stan chats on Snapchat constantly, so Stan had casually recounted this incident to her on Snapchat that’s how she knows..

”Or do you genuinely believe that everything you want automatically belongs to you?”

Vivian’s mouth opened. Then closed. The retort she’d been preparing dissolved somewhere between her brain and her lips.

Maya wasn’t finished.

”You’re supposed to be one of the top five beauties at this university. You’re supposed to represent something, grace, poise, the kind of standard other people aspire to.” Her voice was steady, precise, and devastating in its clarity. ”And instead, you’re standing in the middle of a playground with a private army, trying to force a man to kneel in front of two hundred people because he wouldn’t give you his umbrella.”

She let that image sit in the air.

”Do you have any idea how that looks? Do you have no shame at all?”

The words landed with surgical accuracy. Each one found its target. Each one cut.

Vivian Reeves, the untouchable heiress, the girl whose family name cleared rooms and silenced arguments, stood in the center of her own spectacle and felt, for possibly the first time in her life, the burning, suffocating heat of public embarrassment.

Her eyes glistened. Her lower lip trembled by a fraction. For one terrible moment, she looked like she might actually cry.

The crowd watched in stunned, breathless silence. Nobody moved. Nobody spoke. Two campus beauties stood facing each other across three meters of concrete, and the air between them crackled with the particular electricity that accompanies the complete and public dismantling of someone’s dignity.

Vivian recovered, barely, through sheer force of will, and redirected her glare at Stan.

’This is his fault. All of it. If he hadn’t refused the money, hadn’t thrown the bills back, hadn’t walked away, Maya wouldn’t be here. None of this would be happening.’

The resentment in her eyes deepened into something darker. Something that would take more than an afternoon to fade.

”Stan Harrison.” Her voice was low, trembling, stripped of its earlier authority. ”This isn’t over. I guarantee you won’t survive in this school.”

She turned on her heel and walked away, her bodyguards falling in around her like a closing formation. Her spine was rigid, her chin was high, but the slight unevenness in her stride, the barely perceptible quickening of her steps, betrayed the one thing her posture was trying to hide.

She was fleeing.

The playground exhaled.

The crowd began to disperse, buzzing with the kind of urgent, whispered energy that precedes a story going viral. Phones were already out. Group chats were already pinging. By evening, this would be the only thing anyone at Peak University was talking about.

Stan turned to Maya.

”Thank you.”

He meant it. If Maya hadn’t intervened, Vivian would have kept escalating, and Stan would have been forced to either reveal his hand or endure the confrontation indefinitely. Maya’s arrival had given the situation an exit that cost him nothing.

”We’re friends,” Maya said simply, as if she’d done nothing more remarkable than holding a door open. ”You don’t need to thank me for that.”

She fell into step beside him as they walked away from the court. After a few paces of comfortable silence, she glanced at him sideways.

”So.” Her voice took on a lighter, more playful edge. ”I heard you went to dinner with Sophie Youngs the other night.”

Stan looked at her. The jealousy in her tone was subtle but unmistakable, a thin vein of green threaded through an otherwise casual question.

”I did.”

”Dinner. At her apartment. Just the two of you.”

”That’s correct.”

Maya was quiet for a moment. Then:

”You take her to dinner, but you don’t want to take me to dinner.” She turned to face him with an expression of exaggerated injury. ”I just saved you from a public kneeling in front of the entire university. I think that earns me at least one meal. Don’t you think?”

”My reputation’s been pretty terrible lately,” Stan said, the corner of his mouth twitching. ”Aren’t you worried I’ll try something inappropriate?”

Maya looked at him with an expression of absolute, deliberate calm.

”No. I’m worried you’ll have the desire but not the courage. How can I worry about that when meeting up with you...” The challenge in her voice was unmistakable.

Stan held her gaze for a moment, then smiled.

”Wanhai Hotel. My treat. Tonight.”

Maya’s face broke into a warm, victorious grin.

”I’ll hold you to that.”

By that afternoon, the campus forum had combusted.

A new post, anonymous, inflammatory, instantly viral, appeared at the top of the Peak University feed under a title that could have been written by Quinn Carter himself, and very likely was:

[Stan Harrison Two Timing Campus Beauties, Playing Sophie Youngs and Maya Zimmerman Like Puppets]

The post wove together every public sighting, every rumored interaction, every fragment of gossip from the past two weeks into a single, damning narrative.

Stan Harrison was a serial manipulator who had somehow ensnared two of the university’s top five beauties and was playing them against each other for his own amusement.
