Chapter 6557: The Moved Chen Hui

The Great Monstrous Emperor Slayer’s soul sliver continued to escort Chu Feng even after escaping from the Undying Starfield. Even though it hadn’t slowed down yet, its soul sliver had already begun to disintegrate.

Chu Feng pulled out Qin Jiu’s bamboo boat in advance, so that he could activate it right away when the Great Monstrous Emperor’s soul sliver disintegrated for good. This way, he could continue his escape without slowing down.

When the Great Monstrous Emperor Slayer’s soul sliver fully disintegrated, Chu Feng felt melancholy washing over him.

Even though this soul sliver lacked sentience, it still carried the Great Monstrous Emperor Slayer’s strength and aura. Its disintegration marked the complete death of the Great Monstrous Emperor Slayer.

Shoosh!

Chu Feng waved his sleeves, and a white, plump figure rolled onto the bamboo boat.

It was Chen Hui.

“Brother, y-you...”

Chen Hui panicked. Despite being imprisoned in Chu Feng’s formation realm, he witnessed everything that had transpired earlier. Unsurprisingly, he was intimidated by Chu Feng.

“You can go,” Chu Feng said.

“You... are letting me go?” Chen Hui was taken aback.

“I have no reason to keep you around. The Netherworld Sect doesn’t care about your life and death. You’re useless as a hostage,” Chu Feng said.

“That’s why you’re letting me go? Are you sure? I-I’m really going to leave!” Chen Hui said.

“Shoo.” Chu Feng waved him off.

Chen Hui walked to the edge of the bamboo boat.

As fast as the bamboo boat was, Chen Hui had his ways of returning to the Netherworld Sect once he leaped off it. Yet, he stood at the edge of the boat with a hesitant face, not jumping off.

“Why aren’t you leaving? Are you worried that you’ll be punished when you return?” Chu Feng asked.

“Of course not. I’m one of the most outstanding prodigies of the conservative faction; they’ll surely defend me. Besides, I’m a victim. There’s no reason for them to punish me just because I survived the ordeal. The Netherworld Sect isn’t that unreasonable,” Chen Hui said.

“A reasonable sect wouldn’t have committed such vile atrocities,” Chu Feng scoffed.

“The new faction has indeed gone overboard. When I take over power in the conservative faction in the future, I’ll make sure to purge all the black sheep. The Netherworld Sect will be born anew,” Chen Hui said.

“Birds of the same feather flock together. Stop being an eyesore and scram,” Chu Feng scoffed.

He had no interest in listening to Chen Hui defend the Netherworld Sect.

But Chen Hui stayed put. Instead, the hesitation on his face deepened.

“Spit out whatever you want to say. Are the prodigies of the Netherworld Sect so wishy-washy?” Chu Feng could tell that Chen Hui had something to say.

“Chu Feng, are we still friends?” Chen Hui asked.

“We’re normal friends, but don’t expect me to jump to your rescue when you’re in danger,” Chu Feng replied.

“What if I’m really in danger?” Chen Hui asked.

“Then you should pray hard that things work out for you,” Chu Feng replied.

“Haa...” Chen Hui sighed. “Did you meet little sister Yun’er afterward?”

He had heard some news from the new faction. Xiahou Jue had bumped into Song Yun, together with Chu Feng and the others, in the Immemorial Cemetery.

“Yes, I met her.”

“Do you know how Yun’er is faring, and where she is?”

“She’s no longer in these eight galaxies.”

“Does that mean that she has entered the Ninth Galaxy?”

Chu Feng didn’t respond to that question, but his silence itself was a confirmation.

“Yun’er visited me before she left. I don’t know what skill she grasped, but she killed our Netherworld Sect’s prodigies and turned them into cultivation resources. She handed some of the cultivation resources to me. I didn’t reject her gift because I didn’t know that they were our Netherworld Sectmembers.

“It’s because of little sister Yun’er that I reached my current cultivation level,” Chen Hui replied.

“So, Song Yun really killed many Netherworld Sectmembers?” Chu Feng asked.

“That’s right.”

“It’s cruel, but the Netherworld Sectmembers deserve it.”

Chen Hui’s lips twitched, but he knew better than to speak up for the Netherworld Sectmembers in front of Chu Feng.

“So, what is it that you want to tell me? Is it related to Song Yun?” Chu Feng asked. His gut feeling told him that this was the reason behind Chen Hui’s hesitation.

“I guess it’s obvious. I shan’t beat around the bush then. No matter whether you see me as a friend or not, I consider you my friend. Yun’er’s cultivation resources did benefit me greatly at the start, but as time passed, the side effects began to show. My days will be numbered if I fail to overcome the side effects.

“You didn’t suffer a backlash from the Netherworld Troop Formation even though you have manifested your Netherworld Embryo into such a powerful form. This shows that you possess exceptional control over your Netherworld Embryo. So, I was wondering if you could help me... But I understand if you refuse, too!” Chen Hui said.

Chu Feng looked at the pitiful Chen Hui and sighed. He had a favorable impression of Chen Hui, and the latter wasn’t involved in the Netherworld Sect’s wrongdoings, either.

“I’ll take a look,” Chu Feng said as he placed his palm on Chen Hui’s body.

“Your condition resembles the backlash suffered by the Netherworld Sectmembers who channeled the Netherworld Troop Formation. You used special means to obtain the Netherworld Embryo’s power, but the Netherworld Embryo doesn’t recognize you, so it took something as compensation. You said that your days are numbered, so I’m guessing it took your lifespan.

“I can impart to you a cultivation method. You’ll have to spend two hours each day practicing it. It might work, but I can’t guarantee anything. You’ll have to try it yourself.”

Chu Feng tapped Chen Hui’s mind and transferred a formation into it.

The formation contained a special method to withstand the Netherworld Embryo’s backlash. However, Chu Feng had applied special restrictions to the method so that only Chen Hui could practice it. He wouldn’t be able to impart the method to anyone else.

“Brother Chu Feng, you’re the best. I knew that you still saw me as a friend. The method you imparted to me is ingenious! I think I’ll be able to survive this ordeal with it. This way, I won’t let down little sister Yun’er’s high hopes in me.” Chen Hui was so moved that tears streamed down his cheeks.

“Let me ask you a question. You mentioned that Song Yun visited you after converting some Netherworld Sectmembers into cultivation resources. Did she absorb the cultivation resources first, or did she let you do it first?” Chu Feng asked.

“She let me absorb the cultivation resources first. That’s why I was so moved. I don’t agree with little sister Yun’er’s way of doing things, but she has truly done me a huge favor,” Chen Hui said.

“What are you moved for?” Chu Feng rolled his eyes.

“Huh?” Chen Hui was confused.

“Are you an idiot?”

“I consider myself sharp-witted.”

“Have you never questioned whether Song Yun has your best intentions at heart, or that she’s just using you as a guinea pig to see if the cultivation resources can be used?” Chu Feng asked.

Chen Hui was stunned.
