Chapter 1312: A Flicker of Hope, The Kroma Family Estate

Upon hearing Izroth’s words, a look of realization flashed through Quicksil’s eyes. Then following moment, Quicksil cupped his hand into his fist.

“It has been too long since I’ve rested my eyes. I almost made an unforgivable mistake. I truly must be tired and not thinking straight. One’s age does not necessarily determine one’s abilities. But, Izroth… Why is it that this name sounds so familiar?” Quicksil reflected inwardly.

As Quicksil briefly pondered, his brows rose as if something lost had returned to him.

“Would you happen to be the same Izroth who recently became an Honorary Elder of the Apothecary Guild? Then, to verify your identity, that item…” Quicksil inquired in anticipation.

“Will this suffice?” Izroth said as the Apothecary Guild’s Honorary Elder badge appeared in his hand.

Quicksil looked at the badge and recognized it at a glance. Without a doubt, the person before him was an Honorary Elder of the Apothecary Guild.

“If it is this person, perhaps there is a good that the young miss can be treated.” Quicksil thought to himself.

The Kroma Family may not directly involve themselves in the politics of Danaharpe City. However, this did not mean that they were ignorant of the things that occurred.

It was well known by now how Izroth offended the Head of the Duvelle Family at the Apothecary Guild. Of course, if it were just that much, it would not be enough to catch Quicksil’s attention.

The reason Quicksil’s mood shifted was because of a rumor he heard about what took place during that confrontation.

“This is the person responsible for healing the Order of a Thousand Blossoms Holy Maiden. It was a big deal back then when the request was posted on the Wall of Pills. Even Grade Eight Apothecaries and Alchemists were unable to complete that request. Yet, where all others failed, this person was able to succeed. If it is him, there may be hope at the end of the path.” Quicksil thought to himself.

“This will more than suffice. I thank Supreme Elder Izroth for indulging my request. You must your reasons for keeping your identity hidden. Rest assured, the Kroma Family will keep silent about this matter.” Quicksil reassured.

Izroth returned the badge to his inventory and said, “Since it’s the word of the Kroma Family, then I can rest easy.”

He then continued, “Now that you’re satisfied with my origins, we should not delay our departure any longer. You can inform me of the details of what happened along the way. Be sure not to leave out anything. No matter how small or insignificant it may seem, it could be a clue to a potential cure.”

Quicksil was a bit surprised by Izroth’s words. He never mentioned that there was someone to cure right away. At this point, the only thing Izroth should have been aware of was the fact that he was a guest of their Kroma Family. As for the “lifeline”, not once did Quicksil bring up using it right away.

Quicksil released a small sigh as he shook his head.

“I already figured as much, but it seems that despite our best efforts to contain the situation, information has already leaked outside the Noble District. If the Grand Duke’s enemies learn of this matter, then… This just became a lot more troublesome.” Quicksil said to himself with furrowed brows.

He then looked at the young man next to him and instructed, “Albert, when we return to the main estate, I want you to lead the others and find out where the origin of the leak. Seeing as how they were willing to ignore the gag order set in place by the Kroma Family, they must think that we are a tiger without fangs.”

“Understood, Master Quicksil. I will carry out your orders without fail.” The young man, Albert, responded courteously.

Quicksil motioned his hand toward the magic circle and said, “Supreme Elder, this magic circle is set to take us to a building located directly outside of the Kroma Family’s main estate. Once we arrived, a carriage will be waiting to escort us to our destination. As for the details of what occurred that day—I’m afraid I can only disclose everything with the family head’s approval. I ask for your understanding since it is a rather sensitive subject.”

“Since I’m your guest, then we’ll do things your way.” Izroth stated in a carefree manner.

‘I’d rather not waste more time here than necessary. But, this approach is better than forcing my way in just to gain information. Besides, there is still plenty of time remaining until the quest reaches the time limit.’

The following moment, Izroth, Quicksil and Albert stepped into the magic circle. Not long after they did so, a large surge of mana filled the room. Simultaneously, a bright blue light emerged from the magic circle before it completely engulfed all those within its confines.

…

A few minutes later…

Izroth sat in an extravagant horse drawn carriage across from Quicksil and Albert.

“Master Quicksil, we have arrived at the main estate. I apologize, but the guards on duty have informed me that the family elders have summoned you to the Council Chambers.” One of the guards’ voice sounded from outside the carriage.

A visible frown formed on Quicksil’s force as a look of annoyance followed.

“My apologies, Supreme Elder Izroth. It would appear that my presence is required elsewhere. In the meantime, I will have Albert escort you to the guest quarters. As for the meeting with the family head—I will make the necessary arrangements after I tend to the matter at hand.” Quicksil stated as a sharp gaze flashed through his eyes.

‘Oh? Judging from his reaction, it doesn’t seem like he’s on good terms with the elders of his family. I planned to have the Kroma Family become a supporter and backer of the Fourth Pavilion to help solidify Vexpela’s foundations in the succession race. However, they might prove to be more stubborn than I anticipated. I guess I’ll just have to cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, I suppose I can use the time to sort through the items I received at the auction.’

“I will wait. However, I must remind you that it is best to begin the treatment as quickly as possible. Every moment it is delayed, the risk of unknown variables entering into play increases.” Izroth mentioned.

Quicksil nodded and said, “It will not take me too long to settle things. Until I finish, feel free to relax and enjoy yourself.”

“Then, I won’t reject your hospitality.” Izroth replied casually.

…

Several minutes later…

After they passed through the Kroma Family’s main estate gates, Izroth was dropped at the guest annex, accompanied by Albert. And, after a brief farewell, Quicksil rushed off in the carriage toward a different area of the main estate.

Albert led Izroth into a large guest room that displayed the vast wealth of the Kroma Family.

“This is the room that Supreme Elder Izroth will be staying in. Master Quicksil will send someone to escort you at the earliest possible convenience. I will have a maid stationed just outside the door. Should the Supreme Elder require anything, please do not hesitate to instruct them as you see fit. At your request, I have instructed that you are not to be disturbed. As you are a guest of the Kroma Family, we shall do our best to ensure your stay is one of comfort. Then, I shall excuse myself as I have other duties to attend to.” Albert said politely as he placed one hand over his chest and bowed.

The next moment, Albert left the guest room and closed the door behind him.

‘The Kroma Family is worthy of being the strongest family in Danaharpe. Not only are their servants extraordinary, but the size of their estate is almost on par with that of an entire profession district.’
