The Shadow of Great Britain

Chapter 1118: Chapter 105: () Was the First to Be Arrested_3

Immediately afterward, the students saw the gentleman, who had displayed great prowess during the tavern riot, walking out of the police station accompanied by the Police Chief, without knowing which college he was from.

Standing at the door of the police station, Schneider and Professor John Helbart, the Dean of the Philosophy College of the University of Gottingen, could not help but breathe a sigh of relief.

They whispered privately: ”Fortunately, he arrived in time, and no big trouble was caused.”

Arthur walked while wearing his white gloves, with the Police Chief diligently leading the way beside him.

”Sir, this way. Are you free tonight? I would like to invite you to my home as a guest. The socialites of Gottingen knew a few days ago about your imminent arrival to offer guidance here and expressed hopes that I would organize a welcoming dance tea party for you. I wonder if you could do us the honor?”

Arthur certainly knew what he was worried about, so he said while walking: ”Chief Schmidt, don’t worry. I have always been fair in handling matters. As a constitutional reform advisor to the Kingdom and the Academic Director at the University of Gottingen, the most important thing is to act justly, with a heart free from selfish desires, and conscientiously fulfill my duties.”

”Of course, of course.”

Police Chief Schmidt complimented: ”Everyone knows you were knighted by King William IV three years ago, and you took an oath under the St. George’s flag to act with knightly spirit. His Majesty the King is discerning, and if you didn’t possess knightlike qualities, how could you be entrusted with his significant tasks? But precisely because you are such an exceptional person, everyone wishes to befriend you. However, most gentlemen in Gottingen lack the courage to make this request, so I am shamelessly asking you to attend the tea party.”

Arthur was irritated by him, aware that if he didn’t go to the tea party, Schmidt probably would have restless nights. Although this guy foolishly detained him without proper reasoning, during his tenure at Gottingen, he would inevitably need this guy’s assistance.

Through the arrest incident, Arthur held leverage over him, so if he required help in the future, Schmidt likely wouldn’t dare to refuse.

Just like earlier when Arthur requested the release of students, Schmidt complied immediately without a word, which serves as clear evidence.

Arthur thought about it for a moment and finally repressed his dissatisfaction to agree: ”Alright, Schmidt, you choose the time, as long as it doesn’t affect my work, I’ll attend.”

Schmidt breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and saluted: ”Certainly, Sir, I will definitely pick a convenient time for you.”

After instructing Schmidt, Arthur walked forward alone and saw the students gathered outside the police station, suddenly having a flash of insight.

Although being captured by the police is not very dignified, upon further thought, it seems like a good opportunity to get closer to the students.

Just like Victor used to pretend to be an accomplice of criminals to be arrested together and built trust with criminal organizations through his prison experience, Arthur could perhaps use this opportunity to present himself as a progressive fighter in the eyes of the students.

Thinking of this, Arthur couldn’t help but smile.

Before exiting the police station hall, he ruffled his hair and unbuttoned his coat, trying to make his image look more disheveled.

Once he confirmed everything was ready, he ambled with a limp out of the police station hall, stood on the steps, and coughed with a forced smile, catching everyone’s attention.

”I was thinking of having a more formal meeting, but fate has brought us together today. Since all the students are here, I might as well introduce myself here. Dear students, I, Arthur Hastings, the new Academic Director of the University of Gottingen, here salute you.”
