Chapter 369: Chapter 203: An Unconventional Fetal Breathing

Shen Family Manor.

In the backyard, the small courtyard where Hu Mei’Er lived.

In the courtyard, Shen Li was pitifully kneeling on the ground. On the lounge chair beside her, Hu Mei’Er, with her furry fox ears, lay quietly, holding an ancient book and studying it carefully.

Shen Li sneaked a glance at her and slightly bent her straight kneeling posture, wanting to sit her small bottom on her heels to relieve the pain in her knees.

Whoosh!

A stream of light flew from Hu Mei’Er’s hand and struck directly at her lower back, causing the little girl to grimace in pain, tears swirling in her beautiful eyes.

”If you dare shed a tear, I’ll punish you for another hour.”

A lazy voice came over. Upon hearing it, Shen Li immediately held back the tears in her eyes out of fright.

She really couldn’t understand why her mother was so opposed to her going to the frontline in the mountains. Upon returning from Black Water Pool, mentioning it once was enough to be punished to kneel for half an hour.

On the lounge chair, Hu Mei’Er looked at that stubborn figure and slowly closed the book in her hand, getting up and coming up to her.

”Mother...”

Shen Li looked up at her pitifully.

Meeting her daughter’s gaze, Hu Mei’Er finally softened a bit and said coldly, ”Come sit.”

The mother and daughter sat in the pavilion, with Shen Li rubbing her sore knees.

”Do you know why mother punishes you?”

Shen Li’s hand paused slightly, and she replied in a low voice, ”Mother doesn’t want Li’Er to take risks...”

”Wrong.” Hu Mei’Er said deeply, ”All living beings, if they wish to cultivate, must contend with heaven and earth.”

”Naturally, mother wouldn’t oppose you taking risks.”

Hearing this, Shen Li was somewhat confused.

If contention and risk were necessary, then why did she still have to be punished for just mentioning wanting to go to the frontline in the mountains?

But seeing her daughter’s face full of confusion, Hu Mei’Er let out a long sigh.

”Don’t you always want to know about your father?”

”Today, mother will tell you about him.”

Her eyes glimmered with a hint of gloomy recollection as she slowly recounted Shen Wenyan’s story.

For a long time —

Hu Mei’Er quietly wiped away the tear stains from the corners of her eyes, composed herself, and said, ”Do you know where your father went wrong?”

Wrong?

Shen Li recalled everything her mother had told and shook her head, ”Daughter doesn’t think Ah Die was wrong.”

Upon hearing this, Hu Mei’Er sighed and shook her head.

”He was wrong in his arrogance, wrong in his overestimation of himself, wrong in his inability to adapt...”

Slowly standing up, Hu Mei’Er, with a complex expression, denounced Shen Wenyan’s mistakes, leaving Shen Li stunned on the side.

”Mother, did Ah Die...really do wrong?”

Solely from her mother’s account, Shen Li felt that her father hadn’t made significant mistakes in his life.

His heart sought the Dao steadfastly, seeking the true self, unafraid of worldly opinions.

If there was really a fault, at most he was somewhat guilty towards the first wife and her three children.

But all of this was wrong from the beginning. If you really wanted to pursue it, the wrong ones were grandpa and grandma.

They shouldn’t have forced Ah Die to marry the first wife. Without that, all of this could have been avoided.

Hu Mei’Er slowly turned around, looking at her daughter’s somewhat stubborn appearance, and sighed:

”Mother says he was arrogant because he was born in the family, enjoying various benefits brought by the family, yet did not think of contributing to the family, acting only according to his own ideas.”

”All living beings, if they wish to live solely for themselves, then they should not rely on groups, not rely on family.”

”To receive the family and clan’s protection, yet unwilling to endure some grievances for them, that is selfish.”

Shen Li looked at her mother in surprise.

In her heart, mother had always deeply loved father.

She often saw her mother, when alone, caressing father’s relics with a melancholic expression.

Yet she didn’t expect that in her mother’s heart, there would be such an evaluation of father.

”Mother says he overestimated himself because with his meager Dao practice back then, he shouldn’t have gone to Danzhou.”

”But if Ah Die hadn’t gone to Danzhou, how would he have met mother?” Shen Li immediately retorted upon hearing this.

Hu Mei’Er showed a bitter smile, shaking her head, ”Mother would rather not have met him...At least that way, he might not have died.”

Shen Li watched her mother dumbly.

At the age of eleven, she could not possibly understand her mother’s feelings at this moment.

”Li’Er.” Suppressing the thoughts in her heart, Hu Mei’Er came and sat down beside her, gently taking her hand earnestly, ”Your talent is excellent.”

”Your father triggered much controversy back then. As his daughter, what you need to do is make amends for him, clear the taint on him.”

Meeting her mother’s gaze, Shen Li nodded heavily, ”Daughter understands, which is why daughter wants to improve her cultivation quickly, to protect the Shen Family for Ah Die...”

Hu Mei’Er heard this and lightly chuckled, shaking her head, ”The Shen Family now has enough strength to protect you for peaceful cultivation.”

”The growth of Witchcraft and Gu Dao doesn’t require you to fight for life and death with others.”

”Remember mother’s words, you only need to cultivate with peace of mind, enhance your cultivation well. It will suffice when you become the foundation of the Shen Family and can turn the tide when the Shen Family faces difficult times.”

Hu Mei’Er’s eyes flashed with an odd color as she murmured, ”The Shen Family doesn’t lack clan members who charge into battle; what it lacks is the foundation to guard the legacy.”

”You, Chongxuan, and Chongxu both bear the same responsibility, to vindicate your father.”

”Do you understand what mother means?”

Shen Li didn’t speak.

After pondering for a long time, she finally nodded slightly, ”Mother, daughter knows it was wrong.”

She vaguely understood that perhaps only by living, steadily guarding the Shen Family, could she make up for her father’s past mistakes, allowing the descendants of the Shen Family to know that her father’s lineage has always been contributing to the Shen Family.
