Crafting an Immortal Race with Daily Hexagrams

Black Water Pool, Shen Family.

Shen Yuan lay quietly on the recliner, gazing at the sky.

When he knew his son Shen Wenyan perished in Hundred Beasts Mountain, he knew right away.

These past few days, he had been silently enduring it alone in the Black Water Pavilion.

He previously consumed thirty years of his lifespan to deduce the fate of Shen Wenyan’s family of three, and later used a Life Talisman to alter Shen Li’s fate, consuming another two years of his life, leaving his body extremely frail.

Now, the pain of losing a son was like a sharp dagger stabbing into his heart.

The feeling of a white-haired person sending off a black-haired one, those who haven’t experienced it wouldn’t understand.

Yet, he didn’t dare to tell his wife Hu Yufen, afraid she might suffer from overwhelming grief and meet with an accident.

”Grandfather…”

Shen Chongxuan slowly approached, sitting down on the steps, his expression somewhat dazed.

Shen Yuan snapped back to reality, wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes, and struggled to sit upright, saying: ”How is your mother now?”

Shen Chongxuan shook his head slightly: ”Still the same as before.”

”Grandfather... this past few days I’ve felt inexplicably uneasy, I don’t know why…”

Seeing the worry on his face, Shen Yuan felt a slight tightness in his heart, but could only muster a faint smile to comfort him: ”Don’t think too much.”

”I heard from your master that you have already comprehended the Vast Righteous Qi?”

He also knew that Shen Wenyan’s death couldn’t be concealed for long.

But for now, hiding it for one more day was a day to delay the arrival of such a devastating blow.

”Yes.”

Mentioning Vast Righteous Qi, Shen Chongxuan was successfully distracted.

”Master said that I might be smarter than Ah Die, and might be able to promote the Literary Dao in the future.”

Shen Yuan smiled and nodded.

Back then, Lu Zhiyuan and Shen Wenyan both embarked on the path of Literary Dao, creating the practice of the Literary Dao.

The two of them had braved all sorts of hardships, cultivating with difficulty till now, and on the vast road of Dao, they had only taken the first step.

Without a special opportunity, who knows how many more people will need to strive and explore continuously to promote the Literary Dao?

With a heavy sigh, Shen Yuan unsteadily stood up.

”Let’s go, accompany your grandfather to see your grandfather (maternal).”

”We’re all getting old, and each meeting might be the last.”

Upon hearing this, a trace of sorrow once again appeared on Shen Chongxuan’s face.

His mother was ill, his maternal grandfather Zhao Shuan was bedridden too, and his father was nowhere to be found, leaving him to bear too much at such a young age.

”Grandfather, take it slow.”

Approaching Shen Yuan, Shen Chongxuan supported him as they walked out of the yard.

Behind them, a big black dog tilted its head to glance at the grandfather and grandson, then got up and followed them out of the backyard.

Jinliu Village, Zhao Shuan’s home.

When the grandfather and grandson arrived, Zhao Jinhua was busy instructing some villagers to build a coffin outside the courtyard gate.

Seeing Shen Yuan, many villagers stopped what they were doing and respectfully bowed in greeting.

These years, Shen Yuan rarely appeared before the villagers.

The impression most villagers had of this old patriarch of the Shen family was of a man in his thirties.

Seeing Shen Yuan, now so old all of a sudden, really surprised them.

Even Immortals... can age?

Zhao Jinhua heard the commotion, hurriedly came out from the yard, and was also momentarily stunned upon seeing Shen Yuan.

He remembered the last time he saw Shen Yuan; he was not like this.

Why has he suddenly become so old?

”Uncle.” Shen Chongxuan quickly cupped his hands and called out.

Zhao Jinhua came back to his senses, suppressing the doubts in his heart, and bowed in greeting.

”Uncle Yuan.”

Shen Yuan nodded, glanced at the half-finished coffin, feeling somewhat uncomfortable, and said: ”Why the hurry to make such an ominous thing?”

With a dim expression, Zhao Jinhua bowed and said: ”It’s Father’s orders…”

Hearing this, Shen Yuan scowled and said: ”Old fellow is in such a hurry?”

”Take me to see him.”

Zhao Jinhua gestured for the grandfather and grandson to follow him to the room.

On the bed, Zhao Tuan, with white hair and a face full of wrinkles, appeared to be at death’s door.

Shen Yuan approached, quietly feeling for a moment, seeing that the Death Qi on him was already very heavy, estimating he had only a day or two left, secretly sighed again, and sat beside him.

”Brother Shuan.”

Hearing the call, Zhao Shuan, with closed eyes, slowly opened them, struggling to turn his head, to look at him, and at last there was some light in his cloudy eyes.

”Is… Ah Yuan?”

Shen Yuan held his shriveled hand and slightly nodded.

”Ha… Haha…”

Zhao Shuan suddenly chuckled dryly twice, saying: ”Your brother thought you would never age.”

”Aren’t you... with white hair now?”

Beside them, Shen Chongxuan slowly knelt in front of the bed, and called ”Grandpa.”

Zhao Tuan looked at him, a hint of a smile appearing on his face.

”Chongxuan, why hasn’t your mother come back recently?”

Zhao Xuan’s melancholic illness was something Zhao Shuan did not know about.

Shen Chongxuan smiled slightly and said: ”Mama and aunt are busy with training, the matters at home need my mother’s help.”

”When Aunt finishes her training and Mother has time, she will come to see you.”

Zhao Shuan nodded slightly and replied: ”Keeping busy is good, staying busy is good.”

Patting Shen Chongxuan’s hand, he looked at Shen Yuan and said: ”Ah Yuan, it seems this brotherhood of ours is ending with this life.”

”This old brother can’t hold on anymore, going to depart first.”

”As for Jinhua and their siblings, and their children, if they’re not up to much, let them stay in the village to farm, don’t worry about face, to mess up important matters.”

Shen Yuan nodded and said: ”Don’t worry, I’ll watch over them for you.”

Zhao Shuan grinned, revealing his few remaining yellowed teeth.

Patting Shen Yuan’s hand, he sighed.

”Alas…”

”This old life of mine, I have no regrets.”

”I’ve seen an Immortal and even once was brothers with an Immortal…”

Zhao Shuan’s voice grew weaker, and as he uttered the last word, Shen Yuan suddenly realized that Zhao Shuan’s life force was slowly dissipating.
