Necromancer: Kingdom Building with My Legion of Undead Knights

The notification appeared before Darion’s eyes, the words glowing in the familiar translucent screen that only he could see.

He blinked, his mind still reeling from the battle, his body still trembling with the aftermath of adrenaline.

The chaos of the fight had faded, replaced by a strange, echoing silence.

The birds were dead, the archers were safe, and the clearing was covered in feathers and blood.

His mind had been deep in thoughts, and he was kind of hopeless.

Standing there, staring at the corpses of the birds, he didn’t even want to move.

The frustration was heavy in his chest, weighing him down like a physical burden.

Leaving here would mean losing all these birds, every single one of them, and the thought was almost unbearable.

He had worked so hard, fought so fiercely, and now he was being forced to leave most of them behind.

He had even been thinking of letting animals go from his inventory, dismissing some of his current undead to make room for the birds.

The wolves, the Rops... he had considered sacrificing them all to make space.

It would have been painful, but it would have been better than walking away empty-handed.

He was just standing there, frozen, his mind racing through impossible choices, trying to find a solution that didn’t exist. Until the notification came.

The notification was offering something more.

[Congratulations.] [Superb engagement.] [Fighting while maintaining protection of the archers.]

He stared at the words, his heart beginning to pound again.

This was different from the usual notifications. This wasn’t just a tally of kills or a summary of experience. This was recognition. The system had noticed something beyond the violence. It had acknowledged the complexity of what he had done.

[You have levelled up! Acolyte — Adept ✓]

[Both inventories expanded significantly — animal inventory plus one hundred, knight inventory plus one hundred.]

He read it twice. The words didn’t change.

They were still there, glowing softly in the air before him.

He read them a third time, just to be sure. Acolyte to Adept.

A full rank up!

He had been stuck at Acolyte for so long, grinding through battles and hunts, feeling like he was making progress but never quite breaking through.

And now, finally, he had done it.

He was in surprise as well as so much excitement he wanted to jump up and shout ”Yes!” His body was practically vibrating with the urge to scream, to pump his fist, to run in circles like a child who had just received the best gift of his life.

But he just held his emotions in.

He couldn’t show that kind of excitement in front of the archers.

He was their Baron, their leader, their protector. He had to maintain composure, he had to project calm and control.

So he took a deep breath, let it out slowly, and kept his face neutral.

But inside, he was buzzing.

Finally, he had leveled up to Adept. Meaning he could do more complex things than he could before.

He could... do this for real. The possibilities flooded his mind, endless and exhilarating.

He could command larger forces, control more creatures, execute strategies that had been impossible before.

He could protect Percvale more effectively, expand his influence, build something that would last.

He thought about what the system had just acknowledged.

Not just the fighting. The simultaneous management, the archers far beside trees with undead guards, the Yuimons on the ground, the birds in the air, the zones of attention, all of it running at once while he was also physically present in the middle of it.

He had been directing a symphony of chaos, coordinating multiple forces across multiple levels, all while standing in the middle of the storm.

And the system had noticed. The system apparently considered that a different category of achievement from just winning a fight.

It wasn’t just about killing. It was about leading. About managing. About holding everything together while the world fell apart around him.

He had room now. Plenty of it. The inventory expansions were significant.

He could add more creatures, more soldiers, more weapons to his arsenal. He could build an army that would make his enemies tremble.

He walked to the first bird and revived it. He placed his hand on its chest, felt the familiar pull, and spoke the word.

”Arise.”

Green light spread from his palm, going over the body.

The bird twitched, its eyes opening, glowing green. It rose slowly, its wings spreading, ready to serve. He added it to his inventory.

Then the next. And the next. He worked through the fifty-something bodies methodically, the green light coming and going repeatedly, each bird rising and orienting and going still and then going into inventory.

The archers came closer gradually and watched this process in the way they watched most things he did, with the mix of familiarity and continued strangeness that never quite resolved into comfortable.

They had seen him do this many times, but it never stopped being strange. The way the dead came back to life, the way the green light spread through their bodies, the way they rose and stood and waited. It was unsettling. But they were getting used to it.

When he was done, he looked at the inventory numbers and felt something close to satisfied.

He stared at the numbers, letting them sink in. Strength 101. Agility 87. Endurance 105. Vitality 88. Perception 90. Intelligence 130. Willpower 107. He had grown.

He had become stronger, faster, smarter. The system had acknowledged his progress and rewarded him accordingly.

His knight inventory was at 143 out of 250. He still had room to add more, to build his army of undead soldiers.

His animal inventory was at 140 out of 200.

He had space for more creatures, more allies, more weapons. The possibilities were endless.

Then another notification appeared. A skill had awakened!

A... a skill!?

Finally!?

He read the name and the description and stood very still for a moment.
