The Return Of The God Level Assassin

Chapter 1180 YUNYUE VS FENGHUANG (XV)

”MARY, I know youʼre scared and tired,” Mrs. Thompson said, her voice gentle. She looked at Luo Yan with a kind smile, her concern evident. ”If youʼd like, I can ask the attendant to find a place for you to rest?”

Luo Yan looked at the older woman crouching in front of him. She had changed out of her bloodied nightgown into a much cleaner one, and her hair, which had been in disarray earlier, was now carefully combed.

He trembled slightly, as if still deeply affected by what had happened to his mother. Then, as though trying to push past his fear, he straightened up and stammered, ”I—I want to see Mother.”

Mrs. Thompson gave him an understanding look and let out a soft, helpless sigh. ”Alright,” she said gently, ”letʼs go see your mother.”

Mrs. Thompson reached out to pick him up, but Luo Yan shook his head, insisting that he could walk on his own. He made a show of trying to appear strong, as if deliberately seeking pity from those around him. The effort seemed to work, as Mrs. Thompsonʼs gaze softened, filled with even more sympathy.

They stepped out of the cabin where the attendant had taken them for Mrs. Thompson to change clothes. As they moved down the trainʼs narrow corridor, Luo Yan kept himself busy, chatting with his teammates on the team channel. He shared his speculation that the bomb might be just an excuse to prevent the train from stopping at the next station, possibly serving as another time limit imposed by the game.

YUN: [I agree. After all, not stopping the train after someone was attacked wouldnʼt make sense. But with this bomb threat, the narrative feels more cohesive.]

White Marsh: [Why bother with a logical narrative at all? Itʼs not like players are here to judge the story—weʼre here to compete after all.]

Morganite: [This is why people think youʼre a fool. Even if the players donʼt care, do you really think the audience watching the game wouldnʼt? Do you think Moonlight Media would let their game be criticized, especially now when theyʼre just breaking into the foreign market?]

White Marsh: [By ʼpeople,ʼ do you actually just mean yourself?]

Even through the virtual screen, it was obvious to anyone reading Bai Zeʼs message just how annoyed he was.

AmazingYoungMasterJin: [Whatʼs the plan now?]

Luo Jinʼs message was clearly an attempt to stop the two from further bickering. Shen Ji Yun then quickly responded, as if he knew of Luo Jinʼs good intention.

YUN: [Forget about the bomb for now. Our main task is to stop Jack the Ripper from killing the third victim, so letʼs focus on that. By the way, howʼs Mrs. Winslowʼs condition?]

Morganite: [The doctor is still in the cabin. But when the attendant Miss Thompson brought in delivered the basin of hot water and fresh linen, I caught a glimpse of the doctor suturing Mrs. Winslowʼs wound. Sheʼs probably still alive.]

Luo Yan raised a brow. So, his dear ʼmotherʼ was still alive. Huh.

Noctis: [What about that suspicious passenger?]

He was referring to the man subtly causing a disturbance in the train car, asking questions while pretending he wasnʼt the one asking.

Morganite: [Well, after you and Mrs. Thompson left, he started wandering around the car, pretending to search for something. Then he stopped at a certain spot and stared intently at the floor. His actions were so obvious that the gossiping passengers immediately noticed. They looked where he was staring and spotted bloody footprints leading to the next car. You can imagine the chaos that followed after that.]

Bloody footprints? Luo Yan frowned.

Noctis: [Do the footprints lead to the car where Mrs. Thompson and I went?]

Morganite: [No, they led to the train car in the opposite direction.]

That explained why he hadnʼt seen the footprints when he left with Mrs. Thompson earlier. Still, he couldnʼt shake the feeling that there was something suspicious about this sudden ʼclueʼ.

White Marsh: [Doesnʼt that mean theyʼre the Ripperʼs footprints?]

AmazingYoungMasterJin: [But isnʼt that too obvious?]

YUN: [Letʼs not jump to conclusions.]

Morganite: [I really think the train manager needs to step in. These passengers are starting to act like lunatics, all trying to leave the car. Itʼs a good thing thereʼs another attendant here to control the chaos. I guess the train manager is still busy with the bomb threat. If no one steps up, who knows what these passengers would do.]

AmazingYoungMasterJin: [Are you okay though?]

Morganite: [Iʼm fine. Just annoyed.]

Luo Yanʼs frown deepened. If the passengers were causing a commotion, it would be difficult for him and Mrs. Thompson to make their way back to the car. Should he have just agreed to Mrs. Thompsonʼs earlier suggestion to rest instead of insisting on checking on his ʼmotherʼ? He shook his head. There was no point dwelling on it now. What was done was done. Surely, they wouldnʼt be mobbed even if they walked into that train car now.

Then, as if to solve his problem, Su Yuqi sent another message to their team channel.

Morganite: [The train manager finally showed up, and heʼs brought a few attendants with him. Theyʼre trying to calm the passengers down now.]

Soon after, another messaged appeared.

Morganite: [Oh, this train manager is impressive. He managed to calm the passengers down with just a few words. Now, Iʼm helping the other attendants escort the passengers to another train car. The manager stayed behind to talk with Miss Thompson. Since Iʼm no longer in that car, Iʼll focus my attention on the suspicious guy instead.]

Noctis: [Iʼm near the train car with Mrs. Thompson. Iʼll share what happens later, along with an update on Mrs. Winslowʼs condition.]

Luo Yan and Mrs. Thompson finally arrived at their train car, stepping inside just in time to see Miss Thompson talking to a man wearing a dark navy uniform adorned with silver buttons and a neatly pressed jacket.

The man must be the train manager.
