Chapter 421: Chapter 421 The Super Backer_1

”You people, really are missing the forest for the trees!”

The voice of the Moon Lady resonated again, ”A person’s talent isn’t cold data, nor is it the result of testing, but rather it is seen in the process of their development and improvement.”

After a pause, she continued, ”Perhaps you are unaware, but I have had a fateful encounter with this child, Ling Xiao, and saw right from the start that he had his own opportunities. Never did I expect that in just a few short months, we would meet again in Moon Hua Sect. This must be destiny.”

”Ling Xiao, are you willing to take me as your master?”

asked the Moon Lady.

”This disciple is naturally willing, but there might be other conditions to your accepting disciples, right?”

Ling Xiao inquired.

”Hehe, this lad is indeed astute!”

The Moon Lady said with a laugh, ”Indeed, to take me as your master, you must accomplish one thing; otherwise, there is still no hope.”

The high-ranking members understood immediately upon hearing this.

That’s what they thought, how could it be easy to be taken as a disciple by Her Highness Moon Lady? Without any conditions, how would that be possible?

”Please speak, Moon Lady, your disciple is listening.”

Upon hearing this, Ling Xiao actually felt more relieved in his heart.

”Actually, my condition is both simple and difficult. You only need to achieve the top rank in the Pagoda Climbing Ceremony during the Moon Arrival Festival to be considered qualified,”

said the Moon Lady in a breezy tone.

However, to all the high-level members, this seemed a bit too much to ask of Ling Xiao.

After all, Ling Xiao’s cultivation was only at the early stages of the Transcendent Realm Third Layer. He might be able to complete the Pagoda Climbing Ceremony with his formidable fighting ability.

But to achieve first place was simply an impossible task; it was outright unreasonable.

Yang Dan Lin and Guanghan Celestial Venerate’s expressions did not look very favorable.

Elder Jin and others showed a hint of glee.

After all this time, it turned out Her Highness Moon Lady was toying with Ling Xiao.

”Ling Xiao, I am not forcing you. You have the right to choose for yourself, whether to secure first place in the Pagoda Climbing Ceremony and then take me as your master, or to choose another Inner Sect Elder as your master,”

the Moon Lady’s voice rang out once more.

”I can give you three days to think it over. You can go back and ponder it well, and you can discuss it with your close friends. Don’t make a hasty decision.”

”No need to consider further, Moon Lady, this disciple is willing to take you as my master, and I will secure the first place in the Pagoda Climbing Ceremony during the Moon Arrival Festival!”

Ling Xiao stood up, his eyes brimming with exceptional confidence.

From his beginnings in the Ling Family until now, his journey had been extremely rough, but no matter how great the difficulties, he had persevered every step of the way.

No matter how impossible others thought something was, he persisted and sought success with all his might.

One might fail, but being alive if one doesn’t even have the courage to try, then don’t even dream of becoming a great person; just be content being an ordinary disciple.

”Arrogant!”

”Out of his depth!”

”Doesn’t know the immensity of heaven and earth!”

”Rash and impulsive!”

As soon as Ling Xiao’s decision was made, the high-ranking members had already labeled him in their minds.

Even Yang Dan Lin and Guanghan Celestial Venerate shook their heads and sighed; how could this child be so stubborn.

”Hehe, your answer doesn’t surprise me at all,”

the Moon Lady chuckled, ”When I saw you in the Fulong Mountain Range, you were being chased by a Level 8 Pinnacle Monster Beast, right? At that time, your cultivation level was only at the Martial Vein Realm Fourth or Fifth Layer, yet you managed to escape death and even gained a rare opportunity. You seem reckless, but in reality, you are meticulous.”

”Her Highness Moon Lady is too kind with her praise,”

Ling Xiao said with clasped hands.

”It was but a trifle, no need to always keep it on your mind. Since you and I are fated, after you secure the first place in the Pagoda Climbing Ceremony, I will appear to meet you, and then you can formally become my disciple,”

the Moon Lady said with a smile, ”Oh, and just as a reminder to all present, I’ve taken a liking to this child. If anyone dares to scheme against him before he becomes my disciple, don’t blame me for being impolite! Continue your conversation, I won’t interrupt any longer.”

With that, her voice completely disappeared.

”Farewell, Your Highness Moon Lady!”

Chang Yueying and others finally stood up, and she looked at Ling Xiao with a sigh, ”Our sect cannot take you as a disciple, yet it seems you have a greater opportunity. With that said, go back and focus on your cultivation. The Moon Lin Festival is not far off, and it will be no easy task to take first place amidst the siege of the Inner Sect Disciples.”

”I understand, and I will do my best,”

Ling Xiao nodded.

”As long as you work hard, that’s good,”

Chang Yueying said with a smile.

Perhaps it was the Moon Lady’s appearance that made her truly start to see Ling Xiao in a new light. Could this youngster really have something special about him? Otherwise, with Her Highness Moon Lady’s discerning taste, how could she possibly take a fancy to him?

Ling Xiao also felt moved.

He originally just wanted to take the Moon Glorious Sect Leader as his master, hoping to ward off the oppression from Elder Jin, the Demonflame Celestial, and others.

Yet out of the blue, Her Highness the Moon Lady had stepped in.

And it was clear that Her Highness the Moon Lady’s status was even higher than that of the Moon Glorious Sect Leader; having her as his master would certainly yield better results.

Even though it was unexpected, it did not exceed his plan, and everything was proceeding in an orderly manner according to his strategy.

In fact, it seemed to be turning out even more perfect than before.

”Lucky dog, he’s found such a powerful backer!”

Elder Jin felt extremely frustrated, sensing that dealing with Ling Xiao in the future would indeed become very difficult.

If it were Sect Leader Chang Yueying, he might still contend a bit.

But with Her Highness the Moon Lady, revered and untouchable, he stood no chance, whether against her or Chang Yueying.

If that boy were to successfully become her disciple, that would be troublesome.

But even now, without having formally become a disciple, with the Moon Lady’s words, if he wanted to cause trouble for Ling Xiao in the future, he really couldn’t be as conspicuous as before.

If Her Highness the Moon Lady were to get angry, no one could save him.

At this moment, however, Ling Xiao was feeling quite pleased with himself.

Master Baiyun had told him to become an Inner Sect Disciple as soon as possible, to attract the attention of the Sect and rise in status, to avoid being bullied.

Though he hadn’t become an Inner Sect Disciple, he was now an Outer Disciple who attracted more attention than most Inner Sect Disciples.

Master Baiyun had also advised him to find a protector to stand against the Demonflame Celestial.

He had found not just one but several, including Yang Dan Lin, the Guanghan Celestial Venerate, and Her Highness the Moon Lady, garnering a force that seemed to surpass even the Demonflame Celestial.

Even Elder Jin was beginning to dread him.

...

In the following days, Chang Yueying kept her promise to Ling Xiao.

She personally arranged for someone to inform Master Baiyun and had his name engraved in the list of Inner Sect Disciples.

This was, in fact, a trivial matter for her.

But far away in Tianfeng City, Master Baiyun kneeled on the ground and wept for a full shichen.

”Ling Xiao, your kindness to me is as heavy as a mountain. I, Baiyun, am willing to lay down even these old bones to guard your Divine Sword Sect, to ensure that no harm comes to it ever again!”
