Wasted Spiritual Root to Embark on Demonic Cultivation

Chapter 97

The so-called Hidden Dragon was in fact a lizard that carried a dragon-kind bloodline. Using Wang Yu’s terms from his past life, it was essentially a chameleon.

“No wonder these spiders gained the ability to turn invisible. So they comprehended bone techniques from this treasure bone.”

He picked up the treasure bone and held it in his palm. A faint trace of dragon-kind aura lingered upon it, and its bloodline was quite strong.

Lizards, snakes, fish, insects, birds… all living creatures in the world could potentially carry the dragon race’s bloodline. This had to do with their ancestors.

But dragon blood also had its grades.

From low to high they were: dragon-kind, dragon blood, flood dragon, true dragon.

Four ranks in total. They were not aligned with the ordinary classification of demonic beast bloodlines. Instead, they formed an independent system, which showed the might of the dragon race’s blood.

The owner of this treasure bone, the Hidden Dragon, should have been an early second-rank dragon-kind demonic beast, with a rather pure bloodline, only one step away from advancing into the dragon blood level.

The runes recorded upon it were incomprehensible to Wang Yu, yet when he extended his divine sense, he could easily perceive their meaning. This was the effect of a treasure bone.

“Second-rank low-grade Invisibility Technique. What a fine item.”
Treasure bones were similar to the human race’s inheritance jade slips and could be used repeatedly. The Invisibility Technique itself was not common and could even be considered rare. It already qualified to be sold at the lowest tier of an auction.

“At the very least it is worth ten thousand spirit stones. If it meets a buyer who especially desires it, the price could even double.”

Satisfied, he placed it into his storage pouch. Wang Yu was not in a hurry to sell it. If the Invisibility Technique could be used together with the Night Concealment Mantra, his methods of hiding himself would become even more extraordinary.

Only when he ran out of spirit stones would he consider selling it.

Today’s trip had already been worthwhile. After estimating the time and checking carefully several times, Wang Yu finally returned to the upper levels, preparing to leave Ghost-Eye Cave.

Along the way he occasionally struck down some first-rank peak ghost spiders, which was enough to meet his goal.

After all, each person could refine at most ten Ghost Eyes. Any extras would simply become stored resources to be sold to fellow sect members at a high price later.

When he emerged from the cave, Situ Hong was already waiting for him. Complaining, he said:

“Sigh, I chose the wrong path and nearly got eaten by the Spider Queen. Junior Brother Wang, how was your harvest? Did you find the cause of those spiders’ abnormalities?”

Wang Yu calmly shook his head.

“I killed quite a few ghost spiders, but found nothing else. I think the source may lie with the Spider Queen.”

Situ Hong stroked his chin with a thoughtful look. “That makes sense. She is the strongest, so it must have been caused by her. Let us look again in seven days.”

At this, Wang Yu waved his hand.

“Senior Brother Situ, I plan to refine a Ghost Eye and test its effect. If I miss the time for the mission… could I trouble you to submit it once for me?”

“That is no problem, once is fine.”

“Many thanks. This junior will take his leave first.”

“Very well.”

Seeing Wang Yu’s figure descending the mountain, Situ Hong did not notice anything strange. But suddenly a thought struck him, and he hurried to chase after him.

“Junior Brother, Junior Brother… we have not yet submitted the mission! Wait for me!”

……

……

After the mission was submitted, Wang Yu returned to his single stone house beside the spiritual fields. He set down formation flags to activate the array, which finally gave him a sense of safety.

This hunt had gained him a fair number of Ghost Eyes.

Eleven first-rank peak, eight high-grade, and twenty-six mid-grade.

He only needed to use the ones of the best quality.

Sitting cross-legged, he circulated his cultivation technique for one full cycle of major circulation. Once his breath was stable, he decisively swallowed a Ghost Eye.

The thing was somewhat fishy, with a faintly astringent and salty taste.

Its size was like that of a longan. After swallowing, unlike a pill, it did not dissolve immediately but needed to be slowly digested.

Seeing the slow progress, Wang Yu changed his hand seal with a frown. He curled his middle and ring fingers into his palm, kept his index and little finger straight, and pointed toward the Qi Sea in his dantian.

In an instant, a cold flame surged out, enveloping his entire body.

Inside his body, subtle changes occurred. With the addition of the cold flame, when spiritual power flowed through his meridians it felt as if it was ignited, and the refining speed of the Ghost Eye increased significantly.

In theory, one superior-grade Ghost Eye had a refining cycle of three months. Each could provide four to five strands of spiritual cultivation. As the product of a first-rank peak Ghost Spider, the effect was naturally at its maximum.

After several cycles of circulation, Wang Yu suddenly opened his eyes, his face showing delight.

When refining the improved Cold Blood Pill earlier, he had not sensed the cold flame’s assistance in refining. But now, while refining the Ghost Eye, he felt his speed soaring.

This might be related to the nature of the two.

While Situ Hong required three months, Wang Yu could refine a Ghost Eye in at most one month. This meant that within the year he could reach the limit.

That was fifty extra strands of spiritual cultivation, saving him nearly two years of time. If things went smoothly, by this time next year he could break through to the eighth layer of Qi Refining, catching up with Situ Hong.

It must be noted that Situ Hong was nearly two cycles older than Wang Yu, already close to fifty. At the fastest, he would only be able to attempt his first Foundation Establishment at sixty. If he failed, within his lifetime he might only be able to attempt a second time.

This was the difference between disciples of a Nascent Soul sect and ordinary cultivators. Their success rate for Foundation Establishment was far higher.

Speaking only of the Foundation Establishment cultivators in the Blood Reversal Sect, Wang Yu knew there were at least ten thousand. Even single-peak inheritances had no fewer than a thousand Foundation Establishments. Among the top ranks, two to three thousand was not unusual, and still it was not enough.

The Blood Reversal Sect ruled over four provinces with vast territories, bordering the Severed Boundary Mountains. The demand for manpower to develop resources in that direction was extremely high.

Across the four provinces, cities built upon second-rank spiritual veins numbered in the tens of thousands. Dividing manpower to each city was not enough, not to mention the third-rank and fourth-rank spiritual vein areas, which all required cultivators to guard.

Overall, idle slots were many, resources were abundant, and the path for advancement was excellent.

Since the demonic path began long-term development of its territories, large-scale conflicts had become much fewer, and the trend leaned toward deeper obsession with cultivation research.

Of course, this was also related to the righteous-demonic war that occurred three hundred years ago. Not much time had passed since then, and it had consumed a vast portion of the cultivator population.

Returning to the main point.

The Ghost Eye was like a precious spiritual herb, not conflicting with the residual power of the Cold Blood Pill within Wang Yu, greatly increasing his cultivation speed.

As for the second-rank low-grade spell Invisibility Technique, he truly had no idle slot to place it. Even the Mysterious Yin Hand, a technique he relied on as a hidden trump card, he had to comprehend and cultivate on his own.

In slot one and two were the Cold Blood Art, both close to advancement, and Wang Yu would not move them, since his cultivation progress depended on them.

In slot three and four were the Demonic Embryo Curse and Flood Dragon Force. The first concerned his future aptitude and would not be touched within ten years. The second was tied to his Foundation Establishment success rate and would not be abandoned until perfected.

From this day onward, Wang Yu lived a reclusive and solitary life.

Except for entering the Ghost Eye Cavern every seven days with Situ Hong to hunt spiders, he exhausted his time like a madman, immersing himself completely in the vortex of cultivation, unable to extricate himself.

Occasionally, fellow disciples from Cold Blood Peak who tended spiritual fields would come to purchase Ghost Eyes from him.
