Wasted Spiritual Root to Embark on Demonic Cultivation

Chapter 26

This matter could be done, but for Wang Yu, it wasn’t necessary.

The trap had already been set, now he just had to wait for the right time. Whenever True Disciple Su wanted to come for him, Zhao Shang would never get the upper hand.

And if he never came, that was fine too. Sooner or later, Wang Yu would take revenge personally.

On the other hand, although he had long heard of Su Qingshan’s reputation, it was still their first meeting. Talking about killing the manager of Ice and Snow Pavilion right off the bat felt a bit too reckless.

Revealing too much in shallow acquaintance was a major taboo, and placing blind trust was sheer stupidity.

Su Qingshan was not like the reckless thug who ambushed him last time. He was someone who had clawed his way up from the bottom of the demonic path, with the potential to reach Foundation Establishment, a ruthless man whose motives were anyone’s guess.

Backing off three steps was Wang Yu’s stance.

Once the wine had gone around three times and most of the food was finished, Wang Yu stood up to take his leave. Su Qingshan watched his retreating back for a long time without getting up.

“To have killed his way out from being a Spirit Slave, he’s definitely not someone to mess with. It will likely be very difficult to get information from him about the second-rank spirit pill refined by Tantai Chan.”

Muttering to himself, Su Qingshan winced at the thought of spending over a hundred spirit stones when paying the bill. After leaving Eight Treasures House, he didn’t return to the Ice and Snow Pavilion. Instead, he went to the residence of a Foundation Establishment deacon.
Vaulting over the wall, a fragrant wind and large shadow suddenly pressed down upon him. Su Qingshan stiffened, not daring to dodge, forcing a smile onto his face.

“Jiaojiao…”

“Darling~”

Fat red lips like greasy sausages forced themselves onto the corner of his mouth. The pungent scent of powder and perfume nearly made Su Qingshan gag. But for the sake of Foundation Establishment Pills, he endured the physical revulsion and whispered sweet nothings.

After a long while, he finally managed to catch his breath.

“Jiaojiao, are you sure that Deacon Tantai is refining Foundation Establishment Pills?”

“Darling~ why don’t you believe me? That’s what my father said personally.”

“I believe you! Of course I believe you!”

In truth, if it were just ordinary Foundation Establishment Pills, he wouldn’t go to such trouble. For example, the second-rank low-grade Blood Reversal Pill was also a type of Foundation Establishment Pill.

What required scheming were the high-grade Foundation Establishment Pills that could boost success rates by fifty to sixty percent. Su Qingshan approached Wang Yu simply to verify whether the information was true.

During the half-year Tantai Chan was refining pills, Wang Yu happened to be working there as a herb farmer. The chances that he knew something were quite high.

If he intended to seize them, he would have to take a great risk.

So he needed confirmation from multiple sources before he dared to make such a move. It was also a way to solidify his resolve.

“Enough talk. Jiaojiao, the spirit pills your father gave you…”

“Here they are, darling. Hurry and refine them. Once you reach Foundation Establishment, we can fly together, just you and me.”

“I, Su Qingshan, swear that I will marry Xu Jiaojiao in this lifetime!”

“Don’t talk. Kiss me—”

Tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.

…

…

As for what was happening with Su Qingshan, Wang Yu knew nothing of it. At this moment, he had already returned from the Market and was inside an ordinary cave residence in the Evil God Quarter.

Only basic soundproofing and protective wards had been set up.

Among the first-rank pill recipes, he only exchanged for three types, which cost him a total of fifty contribution points.

Fasting Pills and Spirit Restoration Pills together only cost ten points. The most expensive one was a trending specialty pill, in high demand and short supply.

Its name was All-Wondrous Pill, specifically used in bedchamber affairs to bring one or more participants to the height of pleasure.

The first two types of pills only required one month to complete, perfect timing for his upcoming job application at the Xu Family’s Pill Shop two months later. If he could successfully refine two types of first-rank spiritual pills, he might be hired as an official pill alchemist.

After all, those two were the most widely sold pills on the market, there was no lack of buyers.

[Idle Slot 3: All-Wondrous Pill]

[All-Wondrous Pill (0/100): 24 refinings per day, master in 72 days.]

Half an hour per batch, this pill was one of the more complex first-rank types, requiring a relatively high level of skill.

After studying the recipe for a bit, Wang Yu decided to switch it out for Fasting Pills, focusing first on preparations for the Xu Family Pill Shop’s opening in two months. Making a name for himself could wait.

Fasting Pills and Spirit Recovery Pills were both affordable pills and essential supplies for carrying out sect missions.

A single bottle was priced around one hundred spirit stones. Depending on the grade, the price could go up to two hundred spirit stones at most, making it a moderately priced item.

One Fasting Pill could last for three to six months. A Spirit Recovery Pill could restore thirty to sixty percent of spiritual power, making both highly practical.

All-Wonder Pills, however, were different. These were indulgent-type spiritual pills, usually bought by cultivators with wealth. A bottle cost between three hundred and five hundred spirit stones.

Based on his estimate, Wang Yu would only need a starting capital of five hundred spirit stones to start a self-sustaining cycle, gradually accumulating more over time.

Having set this goal, Wang Yu began a period of intense cultivation, meditating to refine Qi and studying pill refinement techniques.

In the blink of an eye, two months had passed.

On the 250th day of his time as an outer sect disciple, the Xu Family Pill Shop had just opened the previous day. Wang Yu chose to visit it a day later to avoid the crowds of opening day.

The owner of Xu Family Pill Shop was the same cloud-crowned, white-haired cultivator Wang Yu had seen in the Tantai Herb Garden. He was a second-rank mid-grade Alchemist and seemed to harbor intentions toward Tantai Chan.

Blood Nether Peak, the First Peak of the Blood Reversal Sect, was also a Nascent Soul realm stronghold. It had now established a presence in this Evil God Market, which had become a popular choice among many Foundation Establishment deacons.

The markets on the sect’s main peak were difficult to navigate, full of hidden rules and connections. Compared to that, the Evil God Market was far more comfortable and convenient.

Newly opened shops typically offered various discounts.

Even on the second day, there was still a considerable flow of people. Wang Yu entered the three-story pavilion with a rear courtyard and was immediately greeted by a servant.

”Fellow Daoist, are you here for spiritual pills?”

”I wanted to ask if the Xu Family Pill Shop is currently recruiting alchemists.”

”This...”

Before the servant could answer, a young man in ornate robes descended from the upper floor with a scornful expression.

”We are not hiring. Where did this Qi Refining layer three cultivator come from? You think someone with such low cultivation can refine pills?”

Wang Yu frowned. He hadnʼt expected to be rejected before even getting started.

He had no desire to stir up trouble with others. Besides, there were plenty of pill shops in the Ten Blood Reversal Markets. If nothing else, he could try his luck at the Alchemy Hall. Changing his thoughts, he turned to leave.

”Wait, young man.”

At that moment, an older voice called out to him. Turning back, Wang Yu saw a white-bearded old man, late-stage Qi Refining, who looked to be around a hundred and twenty years old. In the demonic path, it was rare to live to such an age.

Giving due respect, Wang Yu cupped his hands.

”Senior, may I ask why you stopped me?”

”The Xu Family Pill Shop is indeed hiring alchemists. May I ask which spiritual pills you are able to refine?”

”Fasting Pills, Spirit Recovery Pills.”

”Good, good. Deacon Xu has been lamenting his lack of energy, wishing to focus on refining second-rank spiritual pills. He had already instructed me to help find a suitable rank-one alchemist. You are quite a good fit.”

The robed young man walked up at this moment, sneering.

”Grandfather, this kid is only at Qi Refining layer three and still an outer sect disciple. If he ruins the reputation of our pill shop, can we afford the consequences?”

So he wasn’t the young master of the pill shop after all. Wang Yu had mistaken him for one, but this brat turned out to be just the steward’s grandson. So what was he acting all arrogant for?

The white-bearded elder nodded and shook his head in turn.

”Young friend, according to the rules, if you possess a token from the Alchemy Hall, you can be directly appointed. If not, you must pass a test to prove your skills before joining. What is your choice?”
