Halochassis

“Go burn the ship! It’s their headquarters!” one of the party leaders shouted, his voice cutting sharply through the damp, salt-heavy air of the harbor like a blade. The command echoed across the creaking docks, mingling with the restless crash of waves against wood and hull.

At that moment, mages raised their staffs, arcane sigils glowing faintly in the dim light, while archers pulled their bowstrings taut until they trembled. A split second later, blazing fireballs roared through the sky, trailing heat and smoke, while flaming arrows whistled like angry serpents.

They slammed into the old wooden ship with a series of explosive cracks. The dry timber caught almost instantly—hungry flames licking up the sides, devouring ropes, sails, and planks with a violent hiss. The smell of burning wood and tar filled the air, thick and choking, as black smoke curled upward into the sky.

The old ship, once a sturdy refuge, was now a roaring inferno. Flames crawled along its ribs like living things, snapping and popping as they consumed everything in their path. Heat radiated outward in suffocating waves, stinging the skin even from a distance. The remaining bandits, their faces lit by the orange glow, stumbled out in frantic disarray—coughing, shouting, and shielding their eyes. They poured out of the ship like panicked rats fleeing a sinking vessel, their boots thudding against the dock as splinters and embers rained down around them.

Meanwhile, not far from the burning chaos, the Bandit Leader stood his ground. Adzeel faced twenty adventurers at once, their weapons gleaming and their armor clanking as they surrounded him in a tightening circle. Steel rang against steel as blades struck his armor, sending sharp vibrations through his body. Even outnumbered, Adzeel did not falter.

He moved like an unyielding fortress, his massive frame absorbing blow after blow. Swords scraped against his armor, sparks bursting with each impact. Arrows struck him with dull thuds, some snapping on contact, others leaving only shallow cuts. Pain pulsed through his muscles—scratches stung, bruises throbbed—but he endured it all, gritting his teeth as the metallic taste of blood crept into his mouth. He was a tank, built to endure, to stand where others would fall.

But then he saw it.

Through the clash of weapons and the chaos of battle, his eyes flickered toward the ship—their hideout, their sanctuary—now fully engulfed in flames. The fire roared like a beast, devouring everything they had built. The crackling inferno drowned out even the sounds of combat, and for a brief moment, the world seemed to narrow into that single, devastating sight.

“No! Not the ship!” Adzeel roared, his voice raw and breaking, filled with fury and desperation. “Raaaaaaah!”

His scream tore from his chest with such force that it seemed to shake the air itself. A shockwave burst outward, rippling through the battlefield like an invisible explosion. Dust and loose debris were hurled away as the adventurers staggered back, boots scraping against the ground as they struggled to keep their footing. Some were thrown outright, crashing hard onto the dock with grunts of pain.

“Gah! This bandit boss is resilient!” one swordsman shouted, clutching his weapon tighter, his arms trembling from the impact.

“Keep the pressure and attack! We are halfway killing the boss!” another adventurer barked, urgency rising in his voice as sweat dripped down his brow.

“Get out of my waaaay!” Adzeel roared again, his voice hoarse but unyielding. He swung his massive greatsword in a wide, brutal arc. The blade cut through the air with a deep, whistling roar, striking multiple adventurers at once. The impact sent them flying—armor denting, bodies tumbling across the wooden planks with heavy crashes.

But for every enemy he struck down, more stepped forward. Their boots pounded against the dock in a relentless rhythm, surrounding him once more. The clash of metal, the crackle of flames, the shouts and cries—it all blended into a deafening storm of chaos. No matter how hard he fought, he was not making progress.

Worse still, the adventurers refused to fall. Those who staggered back, wounded and bleeding, were quickly pulled away by their companions. Soft green light glowed from the hands of support mages as healing magic mended flesh with a faint, humming warmth. Others uncorked glass vials with shaking hands, downing health potions that shimmered faintly before sealing their wounds almost instantly. Cuts closed, bruises faded, and they returned to the fight with renewed strength.

Adzeel’s breathing grew heavier, each inhale burning his lungs with heat and exhaustion. Sweat mixed with soot on his skin, and his muscles screamed in protest with every swing of his weapon. His grip tightened around the hilt of his greatsword, knuckles whitening.

At this point, he knew the truth settling heavily in his chest.

He would run out of stamina before he could ever reach the burning ship—before he could save his friends, his comrades, his family.

“Gang up on him! It’s our chance!” the adventurers shouted in unison, their voices overlapping into a chaotic chorus that rang across the battlefield. Boots pounded against the dock as they closed in from all sides, armor clattering, weapons raised high.

They surrounded Adzeel completely, a tightening ring of steel and hostility. Blades flashed, arrows flew, and spells crackled through the air. The sharp clang of metal striking metal echoed relentlessly as their attacks rained down on him without pause. Adzeel fought back with everything he had left—his greatsword carving heavy arcs through the air, his body twisting to deflect incoming blows—but his movements were beginning to slow.

Each passing second weighed on him like chains. His arms felt heavier, his swings less precise. The sting of every cut burned hotter, and the bruises beneath his armor throbbed with each impact. His breathing grew ragged and uneven, each inhale scraping his lungs like sandpaper as the heat from the burning ship pressed down on him. Sweat mixed with soot and blood, dripping into his eyes and blurring his vision.

“Damn it! Damn iiiiiit!” Adzeel roared, his voice cracking with frustration and desperation as he forced himself to keep moving, to keep fighting despite the exhaustion clawing at his body.

Meanwhile, at a safer distance from the chaos, one of the archers responsible for setting the old ship ablaze narrowed her eyes. The flickering firelight danced across her face as she steadied her breathing. Raising her bow slightly, she activated her skill.

“Owl’s Eye.”

A faint glow shimmered in her pupils as her vision sharpened unnaturally. The roaring inferno in the distance seemed to draw closer, every detail magnified—the writhing flames, the collapsing beams, the embers swirling through the smoke-filled air. The crackling of the fire grew louder in her ears, almost deafening, as if she were standing right beside it.

At first, it was just fire—chaotic, consuming, alive.

But then something felt… wrong.

She squinted, her brow furrowing as a strange unease crept up her spine. The flames shifted, and for a split second, she thought she saw something within them. Something that didn’t belong.

“Huh?” the archer muttered under her breath, her grip tightening slightly on her bow.

She intensified her Owl’s Eye, pushing her vision further, forcing the world to zoom in beyond its natural limits. The flames parted in her sight, their brightness dimming just enough for her to focus deeper within the burning wreckage.

And then she saw it.

Two glowing eyes.

Crimson… with a faint hue of violet, like embers mixed with something unnatural. They burned steadily amidst the chaos, unmoving, unblinking—staring back through the inferno.

A chill ran down her spine despite the oppressive heat of the fire.

“What the heck is that?” she whispered, her voice barely audible as her heart began to pound louder in her chest.

She pushed her vision even further, straining her eyes until the silhouette behind the flames began to take shape. A towering humanoid figure emerged from the distortion—massive, easily three meters tall, its outline warped by the heatwaves rising from the blaze. It stood there, motionless, as if the fire itself parted around it in silent reverence.

“You see something?” her lancer party member asked, stepping closer, his boots scraping against the wooden dock.

“There’s a giant demonic being behind those flames,” the archer said, her voice tense, unable to tear her gaze away from the figure. “Would you care to attack it?”

“Sure.”

The lancer stepped forward without hesitation. He planted his feet firmly, the wood beneath him creaking under the shift of his weight. With a sharp inhale, he raised his lance like a javelin, the polished shaft catching the firelight.

Energy surged through the weapon.

Flames erupted along its length, coiling and twisting like living serpents. The heat intensified, radiating outward in waves that distorted the air around him. Sparks fell from the blazing tip, hissing as they struck the ground.

“Flame Javelin Throw!” he shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos as he hurled the lance forward with all his strength.

The weapon tore through the air in a blazing arc, leaving behind a trail of fire and smoke. It screamed toward the towering silhouette within the inferno—toward those unmoving, glowing eyes that watched from the heart of the flames.

A split second before the flaming javelin could strike true, the demon moved.

With terrifying precision, a massive hand shot out from within the inferno and caught the blazing weapon mid-flight. The impact rang out with a sharp, metallic crack, sparks bursting outward in a shower of orange and gold. The flames wrapped around its grip, hissing and writhing as if trying to escape, but the creature held firm—completely unmoved, as though it had plucked the attack from the air like a falling leaf.

Then, in one smooth, fluid motion, the demon twisted its body. Its feet ground against the scorched wood, turning just enough to absorb the force and redirect the momentum. The movement was controlled, almost effortless, like a seasoned warrior deflecting a strike. The fire along the lance flared brighter for an instant, fed by the sudden change in motion.

And then—it threw it back.

“What the—”

The lancer never finished his sentence.

The flaming lance tore through the air faster than before, shrieking as it cut through the heat and smoke. In the blink of an eye, it pierced straight through his stomach. There was a sickening, wet crunch followed by a deafening burst—his body exploding into a spray of burning flesh and shattered bone. Chunks of charred meat scattered across the dock, steaming and smoking as they hit the ground. The metallic scent of blood mixed with the acrid stench of burnt flesh, thick enough to choke anyone nearby.

The shockwave of the impact rattled the surrounding adventurers, some flinching as fragments struck their armor with dull, nauseating thuds.

”Kyaaaaaaaaah!” The archer screamed.

Her voice broke into a raw, trembling cry as she staggered back, her hands shaking uncontrollably. Her stomach churned violently at the gruesome sight, bile rising in her throat as her vision blurred.

Soon, other marksmen snapped out of their daze and activated their own vision-enhancing skills. One by one, they zoomed in toward the burning ship, their breaths growing shallow as they searched for the source of the attack.

Through the flames, they saw movement.

A massive, mechanical arm pushed through the wreckage, shoving aside burning beams and collapsing debris with a heavy, grinding force. Wood cracked and splintered as it was cast aside, embers scattering into the air like glowing snow. The fire seemed to recoil, parting as something far more imposing forced its way through.

Then it emerged.

A towering figure stepped out of the inferno—a tall, mechanized black demon. Its body was sleek yet monstrous, plated in dark metal that reflected the firelight in dull, ominous glints. Heat shimmered around it, distorting its silhouette, but one thing remained crystal clear—its eyes.

Two glowing orbs of crimson laced with violet burned from within its helm, piercing through the smoke like twin stars of destruction. They flickered faintly, alive with something far more sinister than mere machinery.

“What the hell is that?” most of the witnesses mumbled, their voices hushed, trembling with disbelief.

It was the Halochassis Azazel—the power armor piloted by Shin himself. A fusion of advanced technology and unnatural power, its presence alone radiated an oppressive weight. The air around it felt heavier, charged with invisible pressure. Its armor bore no visible damage despite the inferno it had just walked through, as if both magic and physical force meant nothing against it.

Shin stepped forward.

Each step landed with a heavy, metallic thud that echoed across the battlefield. The flames clung briefly to his armor before sliding off and dying out, unable to take hold. As he moved out of the burning wreckage, the firelight revealed him fully—an unholy fusion of man and machine, standing tall amidst the chaos.

“What in the world is that?” several adventurers cried, their voices laced with fear.

“Is that a hidden boss for this quest?” another shouted, panic creeping in.

“It’s a demon! Focus on attacking that thing first!” a commander barked, trying to regain control as tension rippled through their ranks.

Meanwhile, Adzeel, battered and bleeding, caught sight of the towering figure through the chaos.

A slow grin spread across his face despite the pain.

“That man…” he muttered under his breath, a spark of recognition lighting in his eyes. “I knew it.”

Most of the melee adventurers quickly shifted their focus. Boots scraped against the scorched dock as they repositioned, forming a loose circle around Shin. Swords were raised, shields braced, and spears leveled, their points glinting in the firelight. Their breathing grew tense and uneven, the earlier confidence now replaced with unease.

Yet Shin did not move an inch.

He stood there, perfectly still, like an executioner waiting for the right moment.

Inside the Halochassis, a faint hum resonated. Systems activated one after another, emitting soft mechanical whirs and clicks. Thin lines of light flickered briefly across the armor’s surface as sensors engaged.

Scanning.

Data streamed silently through the system as it analyzed every threat in the vicinity—the adventurers in front, their stances, their weapons, their heart rates… even those attempting to circle behind him. Nothing escaped its awareness.

And still, Shin remained motionless.

“Forty-two front line enemies, huh…” Shin said, his voice calm and almost detached, echoing faintly from within the sealed confines of the Halochassis. “Twelve at the back lines.”

Inside the armor, streams of data flickered across his vision—heat signatures, movement patterns, weapon types—all mapped out with cold precision. Every heartbeat around him felt visible, every breath accounted for. The battlefield was no longer chaos to him. It was a system. A calculation.

“Fire!” one of the adventurer captains shouted, his voice sharp with urgency.

In an instant, the air screamed.

A dense volley of arrows darkened the sky, their feathered shafts slicing through the smoke with high-pitched whistles. At the same time, mages unleashed torrents of fire and ice—blazing spheres that roared like miniature suns, and jagged shards of frost that crackled with biting cold. The combined assault surged forward like a storm, illuminating the battlefield in flashes of orange and blue.

They struck Shin all at once.

Clang. Crack. Hiss.

Arrows shattered upon impact, snapping like brittle twigs as they ricocheted uselessly off the dark metal. Fireballs burst against his armor, erupting into waves of heat that quickly dispersed, their flames collapsing into harmless embers. Ice spells fared no better—crystals fractured instantly, dissolving into shimmering dust that scattered in the air like snow caught in sunlight.

The Halochassis stood unmoved. Untouched.

“Vanguard, attack! Subdue the demon!” the adventurer party leader roared, desperation creeping into his command.

With a unified shout, the melee fighters surged forward. Their boots thundered against the dock as they closed the distance, weapons raised high. Swords gleamed, axes spun, maces swung with crushing intent, and polearms thrust forward like a forest of sharpened steel.

They struck.

But nothing happened.

A faint, translucent shimmer flickered across Shin’s body—the Halochassis’s shield activating with a low, humming vibration. Every weapon that met it was halted instantly, as though they had struck an invisible wall. The impact sent jarring shocks back through the adventurers’ arms, numbing their hands and rattling their bones. Some staggered from the recoil, others gritted their teeth and tried again—but it was all futile.

Steel could not touch him.

Magic could not harm him.

Seeing their attacks fail so completely, a ripple of fear spread through the adventurers. Their breaths grew uneven, their movements hesitant.

Inside the armor, Shin smiled.

“I am not a demon…” he muttered softly, his voice laced with something darker than pride. “I am a fallen angel.”

Then he moved.

The ground groaned beneath his weight as he lunged forward with explosive force. His metallic fist shot out, faster than the eye could follow—

CRACK.

It connected with an adventurer’s face, caving in the helmet and skull beneath it in one brutal impact. Bone shattered like glass, fragments spraying outward as the lifeless body collapsed instantly.

He didn’t stop.

Another punch drove into a man’s stomach, the force so immense it folded his body inward. Ribs snapped audibly, puncturing flesh as the man was hurled backward, crashing into others with a sickening thud.

Each strike carried overwhelming, monstrous power. It was like being struck by a falling boulder—unstoppable, merciless, absolute.

“So this... This is power! Hahahaha!” Shin laughed, his voice rising into a manic, unhinged cackle that echoed from within the armor, distorted and hollow.

Panic broke the formation.

Some adventurers turned and ran, their courage shattered as survival instincts took over. Their boots slipped against blood-slick wood as they scrambled to escape the nightmare behind them.

But Shin pursued.

Each step he took was thunderous, closing the distance with terrifying speed. He grabbed one fleeing man by the shoulder and slammed him into the ground, the impact splintering the dock beneath him. Another he caught mid-run, his metallic hand crushing through armor and flesh alike.

Soon, the battlefield fell into a gruesome silence, broken only by the crackling of flames and the wet sounds of destruction.

The adventurers’ numbers dwindled rapidly.

Bodies lay scattered across the dock—broken, twisted, unrecognizable. Blood pooled beneath Shin’s feet, thick and dark, reflecting the flickering firelight like a crimson mirror. It coated his armor in streaks and splatters, dripping slowly from his fists.

Meanwhile…

Far from the carnage, hidden within the shadows of the treeline, a lone figure watched.

Perched silently atop a sturdy branch, the Untouchable Windwalker of the Celestial Wardens observed the battlefield below. The leaves around her rustled faintly in the night breeze, carrying with them the scent of ash and blood.

She was an elf—strikingly beautiful, with long strands of golden hair that shimmered faintly even in the dim light. Her emerald eyes, sharp and piercing, reflected the distant flames like twin green stars.

But there was no awe in her gaze.

Only cold focus.

Her expression hardened as she stared at the armored figure slaughtering the adventurers without hesitation. Her fingers tightened slightly against the bark beneath her, nails digging in just enough to leave faint marks.

She did not look away.

She watched the “demon” carefully—studying its movements, its strength… its nature.
