A Sect from a Spirit Vein

Chapter 388: Chapter 346: The Source of Vitality

The red coffin behind him fell into silence, and the monstrous baby zombie in front just blocked the door without daring to enter. Wang Yu let out a slight breath of relief.

He bet correctly.

However, safety is still not guaranteed.

He exploited a loophole in the rules, but whether this loophole can exist long-term or will be patched by even stranger changes is uncertain.

The shrill cries of the monstrous baby made him uneasy.

Moreover, although the monstrous baby was unable to enter, it also showed no intention of leaving, even the dozens of arms and legs propping up the Corpse Hill were lowered, completely blocking the doorway.

The monstrous baby’s slender tongue danced in the air, its spiteful eyes firmly locked onto Wang Yu.

Going out would mean death, staying here might face more unforeseen changes, a death trap with no room for maneuver.

But Wang Yu took several deep breaths, ignoring the monstrous baby glaring outside, and leaned against the red coffin, slowly sitting down.

He took out some clear water from the Storage Pouch and drank a few sips, swallowed an Elixir, leaned against the coffin, and directly began meditating to adjust his breathing.

For now, only by staying calm and focusing on recovery might there be a slim chance for survival.

After half an hour, Wang Yu opened his eyes, with his Spiritual Power and Divine Sense restored. The good news was there were no changes in the stone house, but the bad news was that the monstrous baby was still blocking the doorway, without moving an inch.

Wang Yu stood up, the monstrous baby’s gaze followed him as he moved, and he walked around the red coffin.

His opportunity time limit was only thirteen days left, considering the progress of over three hours along the mountain path only covering several miles, the upcoming hundred miles journey in thirteen days was extremely tight, and might not be enough.

To continue delaying, Foundation Establishment would definitely fail. Since that’s the case, a desperate fight might be better.

The monstrous baby’s eyes suddenly changed, from just filled with resentment and hatred, they quickly shifted to confusion, and then transitioned to intense fear.

Because it saw the Wuqu Puppet standing before the red coffin, with the Heaven-Piercing Halberd in its hand raised high!

The monstrous baby’s face was full of terror, emitting shrill screams, and beneath the Corpse Hill, it was flustered and moved erratically in retreat.

Oh? You can feel fear too?

Wang Yu laughed, but just as the Heaven-Piercing Halberd was about to swing down, a low humming suddenly came from the air!

From over ten miles away, several Escape Lights rose to the sky in a panicked escape, led by two Foundation Establishment Feather Scholars.

Wang Yu was shocked in his heart; everybody knew the rule of not flying within the perilous grounds, so these cultivators must have encountered something terribly horrifying and irresistible, forcing them to choose flight for survival.

However, the Cloud Miasma in the air began to churn violently, dots of black emerged from within, accompanied by the ominous humming, closing in on the fleeing cultivators.

Wang Yu took a closer look for a few moments, finally realizing those black dots were actually human heads!

A pair of wings resembling insect wings extended from the ear channels of the heads, vibrating rapidly, allowing the heads to fly swiftly.

The gathering flying heads rolled and moved like dark clouds, instantly enveloping the dozen Escape Lights, with the two Foundation Establishment Escape Lights flickering briefly before quickly extinguishing. Then, the flesh and blood remains of the cultivators fell like rain, making a whispering noise as they hit the ground.

The strong scent of blood wafted over, and the monstrous baby greedily licked its lips, then looked fearfully at the red coffin under the Heaven-Piercing Halberd, maneuvering the Corpse Hill to clumsily move towards the landing point of the flesh and blood.

A moment later, silence fell outside the stone house, with no more living corpses.

Wang Yu exhaled deeply, considering himself lucky to have escaped this calamity. Unless absolutely necessary, he didn’t want to open the red coffin. Judging by the monstrous baby’s reaction, whatever was inside seemed to have an incredible background.

After deliberation, he gave up the idea of using the ”Yi” Puppet. Initially intended as a Cangying Puppet, it had both reconnaissance and combat capabilities, but flying would attract the eerie human heads or greater horrors, and flying low would make the Cangying not very useful.

Just as he walked out of the stone house, discerning the direction to continue forward, a desolate call rang out again.

”Son, dad’s coming to find you! Come see your dad!”

It’s Old Yang!

Wang Yu turned his head, seeing the elderly cultivator walking unsteadily forward, his voice hoarse and his footsteps tough, eyes fixed ahead, looking like he couldn’t hold on much longer.

Nevertheless, his loud calls seemed to allow him to peacefully traverse the mountain path, surprising Wang Yu.

After observing him for a moment, Wang Yu couldn’t help but say, ”Old sir, considering your current state, you probably can’t hold on much longer, how will you find your son? This stone house can still be considered safe; maybe you can use it to recuperate a bit.”

Thinking Old Yang would ignore him; surprisingly, he slightly turned his head and looked at Wang Yu with muddy eyes, nodding.

Old Yang walked closer and closer, the decomposed scent on him almost recognizable; this old cultivator was nearly at the end of his physical and mental endurance.

Watching him enter the stone house, Wang Yu said again, ”Old sir, this stone house’s coffin has something odd about it; stay away. If there’s any movement later, or if a door grows out of the stone house again, leave immediately.”

Old Yang sat down with difficulty, took a breath, and smiled: ”Thanks, young man.”

Wang Yu nodded and was about to leave when he heard Old Yang softly say, ”Young man, you’re quick-footed, if you see my son ahead, can you pass him a message, tell him his dad’s looking for him.”

While saying this, his eyes were unfocused, not facing Wang Yu, speaking to the air, clearly showing signs of mental instability.

”My son is named Changgeng and is easy to recognize; there’s a large red birthmark on his forehead.”

Wang Yu sighed, not planning to engage further, nodded: ”Alright, I’ll keep an eye out.”

Old Yang’s wrinkled face showed a trace of excitement. He suddenly made a silence gesture and then quietly continued talking into the air, saying: ”Let me tell you a secret, the corpses here can move!”

Wang Yu was amused, thinking of course the living corpses move; this old cultivator was indeed muddled. Just as he was about to leave, Old Yang continued: ”Not only do they move, they eat people!”

”Right before my eyes, they ate one, two, three...a total of seven people!”

”It’s truly terrifying; I must quickly find Changgeng and have him hurry back home!”

”Luckily, they don’t want to eat an old man’s flesh, they let me go.”

Wang Yu sharply turned back, observing the elderly, death-qi filled cultivator, piecing together bits of information.

These living corpses likely only have an interest in fresh flesh! They don’t seem to eat each other or devour those like the elder cultivator nearing the end of his life filled with death-qi.

For the next several hundred miles of journey, perhaps the chance for survival lies in this realization!
