The Archmetamagician: The Weave Collapses Again

”Ah, this character sheet is kind of trash.” Anser complained weakly.

In the game, becoming a classed character had no entry threshold. In reality, if your Intelligence was insufficient, you could not become a Wizard, and if your talent was lacking, you could not become a Sorcerer.

Two lit-up subclasses appeared.

One was Draconic Bloodline.

The other was Wild Magic.

Draconic Bloodline: ”Breathe the Magic of Dragons.”

Wild Magic: ”Releasing chaotic magical power beneath the Order of Creation.”

The former was because he possessed Silver Dragon blood, while the latter was due to the collapse of the Weave, the rampant spread of primal magic, and the expansion of Wild Magic zones. Coincidence and chance combined to form an opportunity, allowing ordinary people to obtain a trace of control over Wild Magic.

Chaotic magical power was filled with uncertainty. Each casting could produce a random magical effect, such as turning oneself into a potted plant or summoning a demon.

The spectacle value was maxed out, but it really could get people killed, and Anser did not dare to gamble.

A Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer had no real shortcomings. Its survival capabilities were strong, it could fly, and it possessed spell-like abilities.

Possibly due to bloodline influence, this subclass had high casting stability, and unlike a Wizard, it used spontaneous casting, so there was no need to worry about being unable to cast spells.

”You’ll do.”

After confirming the subclass, the character sheet unexpectedly popped up another option, allowing the selection of a dragon bloodline.

”Huh? What does this mean? Don’t I already have Silver Dragon blood?” Anser was very surprised.

Dragon bloodlines were divided into three major categories: Chromatic Dragons, Metallic Dragons, and Gem Dragons.

Chromatic Dragons belonged to the evil alignment, mainly including Black Dragons, Blue Dragons, Green Dragons, Red Dragons, and White Dragons.

Metallic Dragons were generally of the lawful good alignment, mainly including Gold Dragons, Silver Dragons, Brass Dragons, Bronze Dragons, and Copper Dragons.

Gem Dragons were mostly of the neutral alignment, including Amethyst Dragons, Crystal Dragons, Emerald Dragons, Sapphire Dragons, and Topaz Dragons.

Each type of dragon bloodline came with a first-circle spell, and their attributes were also different. Gold Dragons and Red Dragons were associated with fire, Silver Dragons and White Dragons with cold, Bronze Dragons and Blue Dragons with lightning…

”The original body had Silver Dragon blood. If I pick a Gold Dragon as well, can I activate two bloodlines at the same time?” Anser’s eyes lit up.

Metallic Dragons are good dragons, with a very good reputation on the continent of Faerûn. Choosing this would make it easier to move around in the human world.

Also, Gold Dragons are the strongest Metallic Dragons, with a high challenge rating, meaning you can effortlessly beat up the strongest Chromatic Dragon—the Red Dragon.

The bonus dragon magic, [Disguise Self], is also very useful. If you accidentally fall into the Underdark, you can still disguise yourself as a goblin or a duergar to stay alive.

Anser confirmed it with his mind, and the Draconic Bloodline subclass immediately lit up.

”It actually works. Looks like bloodline is just the catalyst for obtaining Draconic Bloodline. A Sorcerer is, in essence, an arcane caster, and the class cap isn’t affected by bloodline.”

There was no time to waste. With escaping the pit as the immediate goal, he immediately chose class skills and spells.

He chose the Noble background, because it increases the Charisma attribute.

For the racial feat, he chose Tough, increasing Hit Point. Staying alive was what mattered.

”Please choose a casting method.”

”Magic power casting!”

”Creating character…”

Before Anser could react, a vast torrent of knowledge and magical power surged out of the dice like a storm. His brain swelled with pain, his body trembled, and his skin glimmered with faint gold-and-silver light.

He hurriedly lay prone on the ground to keep himself from falling off the stone platform.

This decision proved absolutely correct—no sooner had he lain down than he lost control of his body.

At this moment, his flesh seemed to come alive. Every cell was cheering with excitement as surging magical power churned and flowed within him. Tiny soft scales surfaced across his skin, nearly flesh-colored, yet shimmering with a silvery-golden sheen.

Anser had no time to pay attention to this. He was receiving the knowledge and skills being poured into him.

The sensation was novel. It was nothing like the effort of studying—rather, it felt as if he had always known it, and was merely remembering.

”Memories and inheritance from the bloodline—makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?”

…

How much time passed, he did not know. Anser slowly woke up.

”How did I fall asleep?”

He raised his eyes and looked around. The sky had grown even darker. The fighting in the distance was no longer intense, but he knew clearly that this was not a good sign.

The humans had been defeated.

Rolling over and sitting up, he felt his body light and agile, brimming with vitality.

The swelling in his calves had already gone down, and the small wounds on his body had almost completely disappeared, no longer affecting his movement at all.

He lightly stroked the skin of his arm. The soft scales were tough yet elastic, highly sensitive to the touch, and carried a faint metallic sheen. At a glance, they were clearly different from those of an ordinary person.

”These dragon scales are pretty good.” After the bloodlines of the Gold Dragon and Silver Dragon fused, the coloration instead became relatively understated.

Anser brought up the panel. His Hit Point had reached 11/12, consisting of 6 base Hit Point from Sorcerer levels, 1 point from his Constitution modifier, 2 points from the Tough feat, and 3 points from Draconic Resilience.

In addition, his Armor Class had reached 14, his magic power was 4, he had 6 cantrips, 6 1st-level spells, and he also knew a bunch of skills, such as Acrobatics, Athletics, and Survival.

”Unfortunately, my magic power is a bit low. At most, I can cast four 1st-level spells.”

On the continent of Faerûn, there were two most common spellcasting systems: the mainstream spell slot casting system, and magic power casting.

The spell slot system relied on the Weave. It was more stable, safer, and easier to cast, making it the choice of most spellcasters.

But now that the Weave was in turmoil, as a Sorcerer, it was better to use innate magic power to cast spells.

”I need to use it sparingly. I don’t know what’s going on up there.” Anser stood up and cautiously investigated the surrounding situation.

The humidity around him was extremely heavy. His ears were filled with a rumbling sound of water. The waterfall overhead seemed closer than before, constantly scouring the column-like high slope beneath his feet. From time to time, soil and rocks rolled down; collapse was only a matter of time.

”I can’t wait any longer.”

He touched his chest and took out a palm-sized, column-shaped crystal from inside his robe. It was crystal clear, firmly hung around his neck by a metal chain.

”Good, good.”

This was his arcane focus—cheap, but capable of assisting in channeling magic power.

Most importantly, possessing it allowed him to waive some spellcasting material components.

For example, Jump not only required an incantation and gestures, but also the hind leg of a grasshopper. Without a focus, where was he supposed to find a grasshopper?

He tucked the focus back into his clothes and kept it close to his body. Then he briefly stretched his limbs and quietly climbed out along the relatively gentler side, leaving the cover of the roof overhead. He raised his head to observe the situation above, looking very much like a thief sneaking around to steal a chicken.
