Camp? Town!
While everyone was engrossed in worshipping the ”Candice Statue,”
Serea and her companions quietly slipped outside.
”The statue should be able to generate a lot of Faith Crystals here. The rest depends on the completion of the chapel.”
But the System, sensing her thoughts, poured a bucket of cold water on her hopes.
System: Please ensure that the believers maintain their faith in ”Candice.”
Once their faith shifts, the host will no longer be able to obtain Faith Crystals.
”Maintain faith? That means...”
Does that shameful performance have to continue!
The future looked bleak, but if she wanted to keep the faith strong, Serea needed to make sure Candice didn’t fade from public view (become irrelevant), which would require her to take some measures.
”But anyway, this mission is satisfactorily accomplished. Let’s prepare to head home.”
With that, Serea first returned to the Xiyun Merchant Guild headquarters to bid farewell to Avril. While saying goodbye, Serea also handed over the building blueprint for the ”Inquisitor’s Hall” to Avril, who promised to immediately select a site and begin construction, sparing Serea any further concern.
She ordered the accompanying blood slaves to stay at the Trading Post; they would return with Avril’s caravan to the Darkmoon clan camp in two days.
In the thick jungle, Serea and her group mounted Chips and the Gargoyles; flying back to the camp would take less than an hour.
”Alright, let’s stop here.”
”Mhm, queen Serea, safe journey.”
Avril and the guards saw her off, but...
”Tethys, are you sure you want to stay here?”
”Yes, indeed! I want to stay for a while and give Serea a surprise.”
Tethys winked at Serea, but at the word ”surprise,”
Serea shivered—she had a premonition that Tethys was up to something strange again.
”Very well. When you want to return, just have the Raven notify me, and I’ll send the Gargoyle to pick you up.”
”Alright, thank you!”
”See you then.”
”Bye! Safe travels!”
With waves of farewell, chips and the Gargoyle lifted Serea, Lola, and the others up into the clouds. Watching Serea depart, tethys clapped her hands.
”Alright, now, let’s prepare Serea’s big surprise.”
As she spoke, tethys flashed a mischievous smile and looked at Avril.
”Miss Avril, could I trouble you with the publicity and operations?”
”Of course, no problem.”
”Thank you.”
After thanking her, tethys gazed in the direction Serea had flown.
Eheheh...
......
Soaring above the clouds and now accustomed to gliding through the sky, Serea greatly enjoyed the sensation. Looking down at the entire jungle, she was swept with a strange sense of accomplishment.
In the blink of an eye, they nearly reached their destination. Glancing ahead...
”There’s the Darkmoon clan’s camp... or is it...!!!”
Gazing at the camp, Serea felt both unfamiliar and shocked. Honestly, she’d only been away for two or three days—how had the camp...
......
Inside the camp of the Darkmoon clan, Doluka stood atop a massive 12-meter wall with black coloring, punctuated every so often by tall ”Blood Tree Guardians.”
The walls bristled with all kinds of turrets and watchtowers.
At the base of the wall, a giant portcullis was operated by the thick vines of Blood Tree Guardians; while a 3-meter-wide moat, fed by water from the Mohr River, encircled the camp.
Now, the area wrapped in black walls was no smaller than the Trading Post. Calling this a ”camp” seemed inappropriate—this place had officially been upgraded to town level.
The stunning transformation left Serea in disbelief—this was actually her camp.
When she left, the whole camp was still surrounded by a stone wall summoned by Flosa’s magic. How had everything changed so drastically in this short time?
After pondering for a while, Serea recalled that she had left Doluka and the others with a lot of Blood Stones to unlock the silver building ”Crimson Bastion” when she left the Trading Post. Afterwards, they’d also asked her for a significant amount of Death Crystals. Could it be...
Appraise!
Building: Crimson Bastion Wall (Blue)
Level: 20
Durability: B
Longevity: B
Magic: E
Description: Defensive walls, extraordinarily solid by nature.
So it was really the ”Crimson Bastion.”
When she first drew this silver-tier building, she’d thought it a bit useless, but now...
The black walls stretched for over a dozen kilometers, with inner and outer layers. It was clear that Doluka had unlocked all the stone walls as ”Crimson Bastion.”
The original stone walls looked basic, but with the Crimson Bastion, the whole camp—no, town!—looked magnificent and grand. In the inner city, beneath a towering elf king tree, all manner of important facilities were under construction, while in the outer city, foundations were being laid, clearly in preparation for houses and streets.
”Heh, they really know how to impress. I didn’t expect things to get this extravagant after I left.”
But this level of construction was reasonable. After all, walls could just be made with Flosa’s ”stone wall” magic, spruced up a bit and then unlocked with the blueprint. Even if the fit wasn’t perfect, as long as it worked and looked good, it was fine.
Plus, there were 400 skeletons in the camp, working ceaselessly as craftsmen, like construction machines that never stopped as long as someone directed them.
At the moment, however, there weren’t any skeletons working on the foundations. The reason?
Outside the wall, hordes of zombies were swarming. Not directed by anyone, but simply drawn by the aura of the living—nearly a thousand in total.
Such a number would have terrified a normal small tribe, but this was the Darkmoon clan!
”Fire!”
At Doluka’s command, the skeletons atop the walls raised their bows. Empowered by the ”Skeleton Warrior” turrets, they transformed from laborers into soldiers capable of simple battle skills.
Hundreds of skeletons fired their arrows in a rain that blotted out the sky.
Thwip! Thwip! Thwip!
Zombies fell like sheaves of wheat. Then, the Blood Tree Guardians struck—tendrils hurled flaming bombs and explosive projectiles outward.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Tree oil ignited by the explosive ordnance raised walls of fire. Supported by the spells of blood elf priests and dragonhawks, the zombies suffered massive casualties. Only a handful survived.
”Now’s the time—open the gate and charge!”
After clearing the zombies within firing range, Doluka ordered the gates open.
The Blood Tree Guardians released their vines, dropping the portcullis to the far side of the moat, and the cavalry within the town prepared to surge forth.
”Charge with me!”
The Black Knight led the charge, followed by twelve Death Knights, all mounted upon massive Bone Yan creatures encased in heavy battle armor—their defenses were extraordinary.
Death Knights plus Bone Yan—these were the ultimate heavy cavalry. Even against a shield wall, they would never hesitate to charge.
The heavily armored cavalry spearheaded the assault, followed by Skeleton Cavalry. With the heavy cavalry charging, the light cavalry switched from lances to bows and one-handed swords, flanked by agile wolf riders providing protection.
The cavalry’s charge was unstoppable. After a chaotic skirmish, the Dread Warriors and Skeleton Warriors joined in, with dragonhawks providing aerial support—it was a one-sided rout!
With victory assured, Doluka called out.
”Victory!”
”Mhm, that was a beautiful battle.”
Flosa was delighted, and beside him, lodran and the others also marveled at the camp’s strength.
”I imagine Queen Serea will be surprised when she returns.”
”I am indeed surprised.”
Hearing the familiar female voice, everyone turned and called out in unison.
”Queen Serea!” xN
”I’m back, and to be greeted with such a surprise is wonderful! Well done!”
Serea praised them, and with the fight outside nearly over and skeletons cleaning the battlefield while the underworld Undead returned to slumber, she collected a batch of Death Crystals and looked at the completely transformed camp.
”Let’s talk inside. I’d like to hear about everything that’s happened here.”
”Yes, My Queen.” xN
They followed their Queen down into the camp. Passing through another inner wall entangled by Blood Thorn Vine and other vines, Serea returned to the familiar treehouse.
”Give me a report on the camp’s development during my absence, so I can reward you based on your achievements.”
”During this time, we perfected the camp’s basic defense, and according to your blueprints, began building a town. The ’Vampire Magitech Academy’ is 40% complete and should finish soon, and the ’Dragonbone Catacomb’ has already been built.”
Doluka reported on the camp’s development.
”Excellent, I’m very pleased.”
Serea approved, deciding to reward them with experience gems.
”Your satisfaction is our greatest honor, My Queen.”
Doluka and the others were delighted. Remembering the recent battle, Serea couldn’t help but ask,
”By the way, what’s with those Undead? Has the Undead eruption in the jungle gotten worse?”
At her question, everyone’s expression dimmed.
”Reporting, My Queen. Yes. According to the Necromancy Tower’s measurement, undead magic in the jungle is increasing, albeit slowly, and the zombies are behaving oddly. Instead of acting alone or in small groups, they now gather and attack tribes by following aura trails—over the last three days, there have been two such incidents at the camp.”
”Have you found the source?”
”We’ve scouted with the Raven and dragonhawks, but so far, nothing unusual.”
”That’s weird.”
Serea stroked her chin in thought, but after a long while could think of no answer.
”Keep up the patrols. Report any disturbances immediately.”
”Yes, My Queen.” xN
Everyone responded. Just then, Doluka seemed to remember something.
”By the way—Queen Serea, to discuss cooperation with our clan, the Crimson Moon fox tribe elder arrived yesterday. Should I summon him now?”
At this, Serea remembered discussing ”employing” the Crimson Moon fox tribe with Sahi of their tribe. She hadn’t expected them to act so quickly.
”Let’s have him come in.”
”Understood.”
An elf guard left, and before long, an elderly fox tribe man was brought in. Seeing Serea, he immediately bowed.
”I am Ganfu Crimson Moon, an elder of the Crimson Moon fox tribe. My daughter said that the Dragon Holy Maiden summoned our tribe, so I have come to pay respects.”
His tone was deeply respectful—partly out of awe for the ”dragon” and partly for the majesty of this camp.
”Your daughter? Are you Sahi’s father?”
”Indeed.”
”I was away on business and kept you waiting. My apologies.”
Serea was very respectful to this elder—after all, he was also a level 34 powerhouse.
”Then, My Queen, regarding the cooperation you mentioned—could we discuss details now?”
”Of course. Here you are.”
Serea motioned for Dogsius to hand over a contract. Ganfu read it carefully, and Serea explained,
”If Elder Ganfu has no objections, the western territories of the Darkmoon clan will be temporarily transferred to your tribe. In exchange, your tribe must provide a monthly quota of production materials. Any excess materials, we will trade supplies for at an agreed rate.”
Ganfu quickly finished reading the trade agreement. He found no problems with it—the conditions provided by the Darkmoon clan were so generous he could hardly believe it.
”But Queen Serea, you could just lease the land for supplies. Why work with us, trading precious land and materials for those ’cheap’ production goods?”
”What seems cheap to you isn’t so to me. We each get what we need.”
”... May I have one day to consult with my accompanying envoys?”
”Of course.”
”I’ll take my leave, then.”
Ganfu left. Serea didn’t mind his hesitation; after all, they’d recently suffered in so-called ”trade cooperation,” so it was natural to be cautious.
She had faith they would agree in the end.
After hearing Doluka’s report on additional camp matters, Serea felt fully up-to-date. She then handed out different tasks accordingly.
Being a hands-off manager was truly satisfying!
”Now that everything’s settled—let’s go check out my ’Dragonbone Catacomb.’”
With a flutter of excitement, Serea summoned Chips.
From Doluka’s report, the Dragonbone Catacomb was finished, as were the outpost and mine at its location. With this, the outpost would provide a constant supply of mineral materials for the camp.
Time to go see it for myself...
Not a moment’s rest since returning to the camp...
