Chapter 643: I Miss You

The Incubus System Chapter 633. I Miss You

”Yeah, Iʼm going to give this to Mrs. Clea,” I explained, holding up the souvenir. I couldnʼt bring it with the shopping bags since they had the store name and address printed on them.

Celia raised an eyebrow in disbelief. ”Only that?” she asked.

”And take care of some other things,” I added. ”Donʼt worry, Iʼll make sure they donʼt find out about me,” I reassured her, knowing that Celia was always worried about my dual identity.

She looked at me quizzically. ”Youʼre not returning to the Demon World tonight?” she asked, remembering that I had mentioned that I would be going back every night.

I shook my head from side to side. ”I donʼt think I can make it. Iʼll contact the others about this,” I said, trying to downplay my concerns. ʼI just hope theyʼre not mad at me,ʼ I thought to myself.

Then I walked towards the door, ready to leave. ”Just lock the door if you go to bed, okay?” I said as a reminder.

”Okay,” she answered.

I left my house and made my way to her house. As I approached her front door, I reached out and pressed the doorbell. I waited for a few moments, but no one answered.

ʼIs she not home?ʼ I thought. So I pressed again and waited.

After waiting for about five minutes, I decided to head back home. I had a feeling that Mrs. Cleaʼs absence had something to do with the news that Ruby and Larry had received earlier this afternoon. So I decided to check it out.

I turned and made my way back to my own house, the door closing behind me as I returned home.

”Hey, why did you come back so soon?” Celia asked as I walked back into the living room. ”Did you give Mrs. Clea the souvenir?”

I shook my head. ”She wasnʼt in her house,” I explained. ”I rang the doorbell, but no one answered.”

Celia looked at me in surprise. ”Thatʼs strange. Sheʼs usually home at this time. Do you think sheʼs okay?” she said, a concerned look on her face.

I shrugged. ”Iʼm not sure. Maybe she had something come up and had to go out. Iʼll try to deliver the souvenir tomorrow,” I said, putting the small gift on the table.

Letting out a sigh of exhaustion, I plopped myself down on the sofa and closed my eyes as I telephated Emma.

ʼHey, sorry for bothering you. Can I ask a couple of quick questions?ʼ I asked, feeling a bit hesitant.

Emma laughed on the other end. ʼWhat are you talking about? Just say it. Why do you sound reluctant? Is it because we havenʼt seen each other in a long time?ʼ she joked.

ʼI just donʼt want to disturb your patrol time,ʼ I said, feeling guilty for reaching out to her during her busy schedule.

ʼIʼm on my way home actually. I finished early tonight,ʼ Emma replied, her voice filled with surprise.

I opened my eyes and turned to the clock, surprised to see that it was only 8:21 PM. ʼThat fast?ʼ I asked in shock.

ʼYeah. Today, they called us to patrol and asked us to come home early. Thatʼs weird since I didnʼt hear anything before. There was no big attack and they didnʼt say anything to us,ʼ Emma explained, her voice laced with confusion.

ʼDoes that have anything to do with me?ʼ I asked, my voice filled with uncertainty.

ʼWhy you?ʼ Emma replied, her voice filled with curiosity.

ʼIʼm not sure, but I get that impression every time I meet Ruby,ʼ I said, recalling how Ruby had been warning me to be careful lately.

ʼUh… Youʼve met Ruby?ʼ Emma asked, her tone surprised.

ʼYeah. Did she give you a hard time?ʼ I asked, wanting to make sure that Emma wasnʼt being punished for my actions.

ʼA bit. Iʼm more worried about Larry,ʼ Emma said, her voice filled with sorrow.

I remembered the bruises on Larryʼs face and winced. ʼYeah. I saw thatʼ I said, my voice heavy with guilt.

ʼOh, youʼve met him too?ʼ Emma asked, her tone curious.

ʼYeah. We even had made a scene earlier. Iʼll tell you about it later,ʼ I said, not wanting to go into too much detail in the telepathy.

ʼSo, what are the other questions?ʼ Emma asked, her voice filled with curiosity.

ʼHmm, since youʼre almost home, how about I come over to your house?ʼ I suggested a sense of longing in my voice.

ʼIs that just going to be just a question?ʼ Emma teased, a hint of playfulness in her tone.

ʼWell, I donʼt think so,ʼ I replied, a sense of melancholy washing over me as I thought of how much I missed her. ʼMoreover...ʼ My words trailed off, my emotions too raw to put into words.

ʼMoreover?ʼ Emma prompted, her voice filled with concern.

ʼI miss you,ʼ I said, my voice heavy with emotion.

A pause followed after my words as we both took a moment to process our emotions and feelings.

ʼDid you say that to the others too?ʼ Emma asked, her tone curious rather than jealous.

ʼWell, I did,ʼ I admitted, not wanting to lie. ʼBut I do miss you.ʼ After all, I had fallen in love with Emma even before I had turned into an incubus. However, I didnʼt want to create competition between my partners by expressing that my feelings for her were stronger. ʼDonʼt you want to meet me? Who knows Iʼve turned into a hideous creature,ʼ I asked, trying to lighten the mood with a joke.

ʼReally?ʼ Emma said in shock.

ʼNo!ʼ I quickly corrected myself. Then, a hesitation washed over me as I remembered how terrifying my demon lord form could be. ʼUh...I think,ʼ I said, unsure of how to describe it.

ʼSo the demon world did change you...ʼ Emma said, her voice filled with a hint of sadness.

Her words made my heart ache as I remembered the time when she had seen my true form and accepted me.

ʼOnly a bit. I still have my incubus form and human form, so donʼt worryʼ I explained, trying to ease her concerns.

Another short pause followed as we both remained silent.

ʼCome to my room in 10 minutes,ʼ Emma broke the silence. Her voice was firm but also held a hint of longing.

ʼGot it,ʼ I replied, my voice was quiet.
