My Youth Began With Him

“Take it away. I don’t want it, no matter what it is,” Huo Mian rejected the gift immediately.

“You can throw it out if you don’t want it. Gifting this is my business… Mian… it’s been too quiet lately… I have a feeling that a storm is coming… Remember, no matter what happens, no matter what troubles you’re in, I’ll always be by your side… I won’t let anyone harm you.” Huo Siqian’s words were bizarre.

“Don’t try to freak me out. I don’t believe a word you say, even the punctuation marks… ” Huo Mian was clearly disgusted by Huo Siqian’s presence.

“It’s New Year and you still haven’t matured. You’re still like a child… but that’s okay… Alright, I know you’re getting off work soon. I won’t take up any more of your time… I’ll leave.” Huo Siqian looked at Huo Mian, content to have seen her today, and headed out.

Before he walked out the door, he paused and turned to look at Huo Mian as if he’d remembered something.

“You must have been happy on New Year’s Eve… I heard that Lu Yan came back… ” Huo Mian’s expression changed drastically with Huo Siqian’s words.

“You… ” Huo Mian wanted to speak but didn’t have the right words. Her heart was pounding from fear.

“Don’t look at me like that… Don’t worry… ” The corners of his mouth curved up.

“I know about your relationship with Ian. Were you planning to tell him Yan’s whereabouts?” Huo Mian instantly regretted her question. She was too impatient… If Huo Siqian was bluffing, she’d just revealed to him Yan’s location.

“My little sister Mian really knows a lot… ” Huo Siqian continued to chuckle.

Huo Mian stared into his eyes, incredibly distressed…

“Relax, I won’t. Lu Yan and Ian’s relationship is their business. Plus, Lu Yan’s presence here was only fleeting. Even if I wanted to tell Ian, it’ll be too late. I’m guessing she stopped by for no more than three hours, right?”

“You… why didn’t you tell Ian where I was? I heard that he’s been looking for me these past years?” Huo Mian suddenly thought of an important question.

“Silly girl… How could you ask something so stupid? I’m not sure if I should laugh or get mad… ”

Huo Siqian looked at Huo Mian dotingly.

“I won’t discuss this further. All you need to remember is this… If you’re in danger, I’ll care more than Qin Chu, I’ll worry more than him… and I’ll be more willing to give up my life for you… ” With that, Huo Siqian turned around dashingly, leaving behind a Huo Mian that didn’t know how to feel.

For whatever reason, the presence of Huo Siqian always made Huo Mian uneasy.

Especially when she thought about the possibilities of him having a different identity altogether; it shook her to her core.

The crimson hue of the gift box stabbed her eyes, forcing Huo Mian to rip it open.

Inside was a traditional red Chinese Qipao, something specially designed for the New Year. It looked custom-made as the sleeves were embellished with pearls, giving it a luxurious look.

Huo Mian didn’t know why Huo Siqian gave her the qipao for the New Year.

Without a second thought, she tidied up the gift wrappings and stuffed the entire thing in the bottom drawer of her desk. The gift was never going to see the light of day.

Huo Mian would never wear anything gifted by Huo Siqian.

She also wouldn’t throw them away. She was afraid to anger the man and then he might take it out on Yan or the twins.

Xixi and Rick were still vacationing. After Ni Yang’s wedding, everyone had left.

They were the only ones left. Xixi loved it there; she truly enjoyed the snow.

“Rick, what do you think about me changing my name?” Xixi wrapped her arms around Rick’s neck dotingly.

“Change it to what?” Rick looked surprised.

“Instead of Nie Lingxi, what if I was called Nie Xiaoxue? Haha.”

“I think it’ll be better if you changed it to Nie Xiaoqian,” Rick replied with a serious face.
