When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 284: Chapter 112: The Leading Lady of the 1960s Cultural Troupe

After all, Teacher Gao’s only daughter and son-in-law had burned to death in a fire, and her younger daughter was lost at birth. After a joyful reunion, she discovered it was all just a cruel joke.

She was in poor health when she left the Capital City. After the blow of her daughter and son-in-law’s death, coupled with the harsh living conditions, who knows how much her health has deteriorated. It would be difficult for her to withstand major emotional swings.

That’s why Xia Zhaoyun didn’t want to reveal her suspicions until she was one hundred percent certain. The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.

Huo Tianhao chuckled softly and pulled her into his arms, kissing her forehead tenderly. ”Don’t overthink it. Just let nature take its course.”

”If things are as we suspect and you really are Teacher Gao’s biological daughter, then our family will be reunited, and our lives will be even more complete.”

”And if this is just heaven playing a joke on us, you can still visit Teacher Gao as a relative, given your status as Ruyi and Ruyuan’s adoptive mother.”

”Besides, now that we have a lead to follow, we can keep digging.”

Xia Zhaoyun snuggled obediently in his arms. ”Whether Teacher Gao is my birth mother or not, she took great care of me when she was in the troupe. Many of the habits and techniques I use when I dance today were passed down from her.”

”So I want to mail some things to her, but I don’t know if that’s feasible, or if she’ll even be able to receive them and use them for herself.”

Huo Tianhao smiled. ”I’ll ask around for you. The transportation teams travel all over the country and have extensive networks. It shouldn’t be too difficult.”

Xia Zhaoyun expressed her joy by rubbing her face against him again and again.

’No one had ever truly shared my worries and sorrows, offered such practical suggestions, and provided such irreplaceable help before.’

The thought brought a saying to mind: ’With a husband like this, what more could a wife ask for?’

Huo Tianhao knew his wife had this little quirk of rubbing against him whenever she was happy, a habit that was both endearing and unbearable. Her affectionate nuzzling could rout his formidable self-control.

”Get some rest. Didn’t you say you’re starting rehearsals tomorrow?”

Xia Zhaoyun nodded, her arms wrapped tightly around his waist. ”Brother Hao, have I ever told you that I like you more and more each day?”

Huo Tianhao let out a low chuckle and tilted her chin up. ”I don’t think you’ll be getting any sleep now. What kind of wife is so shameless? After you’ve said something like that, wouldn’t I be letting you down if I didn’t respond in kind?”

Well then, all his restraint evaporated in that moment...

Having barely slept all night, Xia Zhaoyun was still dazed when she woke up. She let the man dress her and only felt more awake after washing up. But the beauty in the mirror, despite her creamy, alabaster skin, had bloodshot, watery, fox-like eyes. Below them hung a pair of alarming dark circles, making her look like a national treasure...

Xia Zhaoyun quickly placed a warm towel over her eyes as a compress and ordered the man to make breakfast.

Huo Tianhao finished a quick meal, leaving no time to be lovey-dovey with his wife before he had to rush back to the city.

The dance Xia Zhaoyun choreographed was not only original, but its movements were also graceful and eye-catching. In time with the music, the girls of Team Three truly transformed into musical notes, like mischievous pen tips, brandishing their youth and carefree spirit as they composed the future of the motherland.

The girls loved these dances. They highlighted their feminine grace and were exceptionally evocative, creating a feeling of joyful harvest at every turn, which was precisely the theme the performance was meant to express.

Team One was also busy preparing for the August City literary and art performance. Only the girls of Team Two were just barely mustering the energy to complete their daily training tasks, having accepted a job to tour the countryside with a sister unit.

Song Zhenbao’s belly wasn’t showing much yet, and mixed in with the girls of Team Two, no one noticed anything unusual about her.

Occasionally, her face would turn pale, but the girls of Team Two would just roll their eyes and pretend they didn’t see.

’If you feel sick, why don’t you just ask for leave? There are no teachers or men around, so is there any need to put on this act of a poor, bullied Little White flower for everyone?’

Song Zhenbao could feel that the baby in her belly wouldn’t be there for much longer, and she watched Xia Zhaoyun with growing urgency.

She had suffered too many losses at this woman’s hands. If she couldn’t get even just once, she would never be able to swallow her resentment.

Only by achieving this goal would Song Zhenbao feel her child’s death would be worthwhile.

But Xia Zhaoyun was too vigilant. She was always accompanied by others wherever she went and was never alone.

A flicker danced in Song Zhenbao’s eyes. ’If the mountain won’t come to me, I’ll go to the mountain!’

She shuffled with feigned difficulty to the practice room for Team Three, pushed open the door, and called out weakly to Xia Zhaoyun, ”Xia Zhaoyun, my stomach hurts. Can you take me to the hospital?”
