When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 43: Chapter 315: Wife of Chaff from the 1950s (35)

”Do you guys only have ears and no brains? You hear a little wind and think it’s a storm. Do I look like the type to be fickle and unfaithful?”

”I’m finally about to get married, and if you screw it up for me, heheh... I guarantee you’ll all be single for the rest of your lives!”

Everyone trembled, then furtively trailed about ten feet behind him.

’Man, now they were really seeing a glimpse of the King of Soldiers in their boss.’ His long legs moved so fast they had to break into a trot just to keep up.

By the time Zhu Yun reached the lobby of the Engineering Department’s office building, nearly half the staff were already there, conveniently carrying thermoses to fetch hot water, grabbing toilet paper to rush to the bathroom, or tucking files under their arms...

Chu Shenyu watched Zhu Yun bundle herself up again and couldn’t help but laugh.

’I’m probably known as the biggest heartbreaker in this whole place now,’ he thought, ’and here she is, still carrying on with her grand skincare mission.’

”Well, look who’s here,” Zhu Yun said with a smile. She glanced at Chu Shenyu, and then her eyes swept over the crowd, spotting Wang Xianbing being squeezed out from the throng, clutching an enamel mug.

”Perfect timing. The cafeteria has new popsicles. We’re doing a round for every department first, and we’ll work out the subsidy rules for them later.” Zhu Yun didn’t seem to mind the heat at all. ”Where are our colleagues from logistics? Come help me pass these out.”

A few young women came forward with smiles. ”Chef Zhu, does this mean we’ll get to have popsicles from now on? What flavors do you have?”

”Director Wang, still drinking hot tea on a day like this? You should organize the popsicle distribution,” one of the women said, turning to Wang Xianbing.

Zhu Yun raised an eyebrow and said with a smile, ”Everyone, I’m not in charge of the kitchen anymore. I’m now heading up cold drinks and desserts separately. So you can’t call me Chef Zhu anymore. It’s Vice Director Yun now.”

”It’s just one popsicle per person. If we wait to hand them out according to some formal procedure, they’ll all melt. Just form a line and come get them.”

”Oh, and by the way, Director Wang,” she said, putting a special emphasis on his title, ”the popsicles are limited. As a director, you shouldn’t mind letting the employees have theirs first, right?”

’She was Vice Director Yun, and he was Director Wang. But who didn’t know he was also just a *vice* director?’

’Besides, Zhu Yun had only been in her post for about two months, and now she’d been promoted to the same level as him. It was a complete mockery!’

Wang Xianbing’s face tightened. Clutching his enamel mug, he turned to leave.

But the crowd was packed behind him, and these nerdy engineers, oblivious to the social undercurrents, didn’t have the sense to make way for him. He was left to seethe in humiliation all by himself.

Chu Shenyu took a long stride and cleverly got in line first. Only then did the people behind him react, scrambling to form a line behind him.

There were four boxes of popsicles in total, so everyone formed four lines. Those at the front would get to pick their flavors first.

Zhu Yun took out a separate, smaller box. ”I made these with ingredients I bought myself. Please share them with your colleagues.”

A smile touched Chu Shenyu’s lips. The men were practically moved to tears, and despite their fear of their boss’s wrath, they were all secretly cursing him out in their hearts for how he’d supposedly wronged their ”former sister-in-law.” But just as their hopeful eyes were fixed on the box, Chu Shenyu bluntly refused on their behalf. ”No need. They’re too coarse. Giving these to them would be like casting pearls before swine; they can’t appreciate anything good.”

”We bought a refrigerator at home. These will fit perfectly inside. I’ll eat one a day.”

’So shameless! Not only does the boss break hearts, he’s a freeloader too!’

Zhu Yun froze, unable to stop herself from glaring at him. ”If you like them that much, I’ll just make more for you later.”

’It was a simple gesture of courtesy. What was he making such a big deal about?’

Chu Shenyu reluctantly took out two bars and shot a glare at the group of coarse men. ”What are you all standing around for? Don’t you know these things are heavy? Are you really going to make my wife hand them to you one by one?”

’He’s already calling her his wife?’ Everyone was stunned. ’The boss isn’t just shameless, he’s two-timing!’

Chu Shenyu ignored these simple-minded fools. He’d just wait for the wedding to crush the rumors with cold, hard proof.

”Two for each of you,” Zhu Yun said with a smile. ”They’re all made with real milk, filled with fruit jam and crushed peanuts, and coated in an oat-and-chocolate shell. It’s a new variety we haven’t even started selling in the cafeteria yet.”

”If you have a special lady friend, you can give one to her to try...”

The men stared dumbly at one of their boss’s supposed ”wives,” then down at the two ice cream bars in their hands. Suddenly, it was as if a light bulb went on. They let out an excited howl of ”Thank you, Sister-in-law!” and dashed off.

Others awkwardly shuffled over to the women to offer them a bar.

The men from the other departments beat their chests and stomped their feet in frustration. Why couldn’t they have a sister-in-law who could point them in the right direction like that?

Chu Shenyu led Zhu Yun to his office. The two of them crunched into their ice cream bars. The crispy chocolate-and-oat shell was exceptionally tasty, and the creamy milk center was rich and fragrant, revealing layer after layer of filling like a slowly unwrapped surprise.

Chu Shenyu continued to munch on his ice cream bar, all while staring fiercely at his wife.
