Chapter 2288: A Fortress!

......

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The Mana Dome finally collapsed under the continuous bombardment from the artillery positioned atop the rock formations along the eastern side of the fortress.

The mana energy forming the dome shattered like pieces of broken glass, scattering throughout the air.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

However, the bombardment didn’t stop there. Instead, it intensified, continuing to rain down on the entire fortress with even greater firepower.

It was as though the attackers had been waiting for this exact moment before finally revealing their fangs.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The entire fortress was immediately subjected to an even more violent bombardment from the hidden artillery in the distance.

Seeing that they were being dragged into their enemies’ rhythm, the Eastern Wall Commander of the fortress could no longer hold back.

He decisively issued an order. ”Load the cannons! We’re going to bombard them!”

At this point, he no longer cared about the consequences of altering the terrain on the eastern side of the fortress by collapsing the surrounding rock formations.

He would rather take that risk than allow their enemies to continue their bombardment and eventually bring down the entire fortress.

He had never expected dealing with the opposing side to be this difficult, especially after deploying one of their most elite assassination units.

Not only had those assassins failed to locate the enemy artillery positions, but they had been completely annihilated in the process.

This clearly indicated that the attackers were no ordinary force. They most likely belonged to another major faction—perhaps even one of their longtime rivals.

They could even be the very faction they had been fighting over control of the Silver Knives.

Regardless of their reason for attacking the fortress or their true identity, they had to be crushed.

Only by doing so could they serve as a warning to anyone else who dared to challenge them.

The Eastern Wall Commander stepped forward while staring at the distant rock formations, narrowing his eyes as he tried to locate the hidden artillery positions.

The personnel around him immediately moved, preparing to carry out his orders as quickly as possible.

However, before they could even relay his commands to the other units, they suddenly noticed something strange in the distance.

Looking over, they saw a silhouette slowly walking out from the shadows created by the rock formations.

The night was dark, but the moonlight was bright enough for them to clearly see the figure emerging from beneath the rocks.

”That’s...”

Everyone stationed along the eastern wall noticed the figure almost at the same time.

What was even more strange was that the person wasn’t making any attempt to hide their presence.

Bang! Bang!

Before they could even make out the figure’s appearance, they suddenly heard heavy footsteps that seemed capable of shaking the entire area.

Although the pressure wasn’t visibly manifesting in any physical form, everyone standing along the eastern wall could clearly feel the oppressive presence radiating from the lone figure.

The Eastern Wall Commander also sensed an immense threat from the approaching enemy, instantly snapping him back to reality.

He swung his arm through the air and immediately issued another order. ”Quick! Arrange all the cannons! Fire them directly at that person!”

His shout immediately jolted everyone on the eastern wall into action, particularly those who were still in the middle of setting up the mana cannons.

They didn’t know what had happened to their commander, but they still followed his orders without hesitation.

BOOM!

Unfortunately, before they could even aim the cannons at their target, the mysterious figure suddenly kicked off the ground and launched forward like a cannonball.

Swoosh!

”Damn it!” The Eastern Wall Commander couldn’t help but curse when he saw the explosive burst of speed from the opposing side.

At that speed, he immediately realized that his subordinates wouldn’t have enough time to fire before the enemy reached the fortress wall.

Bang!

Without the slightest hesitation, he grabbed his halberd and jumped off the wall.

Boom!

The ground seemed to explode the instant his feet touched down, sending a thick cloud of dust outward as a powerful gust of wind swept across the area.

Bang!

He immediately kicked off the ground and propelled himself forward, charging straight toward the incoming enemy.

Swoosh!

The Eastern Wall Commander dragged his halberd across the ground, creating a thick cloud of dust behind him as the raging mana surrounding his body and weapon continued to surge.

Just as he was about to clash with the mysterious opponent, he suddenly stomped his foot into the ground, forcefully bringing his advance to an immediate halt.

He then gripped his halberd tightly with both hands, causing the muscles in his arms to visibly bulge beneath his armor.

Boom!

The mana surrounding his body rapidly gathered around the halberd, forming a spinning vortex of energy that resembled a miniature tornado.

At almost the same time, the opposing figure also halted their charge, producing a similarly powerful explosion as they forcefully stopped.

They then raised their shield high and released their golden mana.

In an instant, the mana condensed into a massive energy wall that blocked the descending halberd.

BOOM!

A tremendous explosion erupted the moment the two sides collided, sending successive and overlapping shockwaves in every direction.

Even the sand beneath their feet was blasted high into the air by the tremendous impact, creating a massive crater beneath them.

Swoosh!

Not long after, the Eastern Wall Commander was thrown out of the thick cloud of dust, skidding across the ground before finally coming to a stop dozens of meters away from the point of impact.

He immediately raised his head and stared ahead without taking his eyes off the slowly receding cloud of dust.

Bang! Bang!

Not long after, the calm yet heavy footsteps of his opponent echoed through the battlefield once again.

A figure slowly emerged from the cloud of dust.

It was a knight clad in full-body armor, carrying a massive shield in one hand and a heavy mace in the other.

...

Owen, who finally had the chance to ”stretch” his body, stared at the Eastern Wall Commander before him with a hint of disappointment.

”Just a single Commander?” He clicked his tongue before continuing. ”I suggest you call another one if you want to stop me. You alone won’t be enough.”

His provoking words immediately infuriated the Eastern Wall Commander, who glared sharply at him.

However, the NPC also knew that he wouldn’t be able to stop Owen alone, especially after personally experiencing the latter’s strength during their previous exchange.

The attack he had unleashed earlier was one of his strongest techniques, yet it hadn’t dealt any serious damage to his opponent.

Regardless, he couldn’t back down now, especially after realizing just how powerful his opponent was.

Owen slightly tilted his head from side to side, producing a series of popping sounds.

He then smiled beneath his helm before saying, ”Since you’re not planning to ask for any assistance, then let’s end this now.”

Bang!

His figure suddenly disappeared from where he stood before reappearing directly in front of his opponent, ramming his shield forward.

”What!?”

The Eastern Wall Commander was caught completely off guard by Owen’s speed.

He couldn’t understand how a heavily armored knight could move so quickly, especially when the massive shield in his hands appeared to weigh even more than the rest of his armor combined.

Bang!

Without hesitation, the Eastern Wall Commander swung his halberd with all his strength, meeting Owen’s shield charge head-on.

BOOM!

The collision produced yet another deafening explosion, forcing the Eastern Wall Commander to stagger backward once again.

On the other hand, Owen merely paused for a moment before preparing for another shield charge.

However, before he could charge once again, he saw the Eastern Wall Commander retreat farther while repeatedly raising and waving his free hand.

Owen slightly furrowed his brows, wondering what the opposing side was trying to do.

The answer was revealed almost immediately when he raised his head and looked past the Commander-ranked NPC.

From the distant fortress, the array of cannons lined up along the walls and positioned within the cannon windows began firing one after another.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The cannonballs, each containing a highly concentrated amount of mana, flew through the air and headed straight toward Owen, who was still staring at them.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

However, instead of panicking, Owen grinned even more widely beneath his helm. ”That’s more like it!”

Bang!

He planted his feet firmly into the ground, anchoring himself in place.

Swoosh!

He then switched his heavy round shield for a rectangular tower shield before slamming it into the ground.

BOOM!

The loud impact of the shield echoed through the air for several seconds before a towering wall of mana suddenly rose from the ground, blocking the barrage of incoming cannonballs.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

A series of explosions erupted as the towering wall of energy was bombarded by the cannons, shaking the surrounding battlefield as well.

The bombardment continued for dozens of seconds before the cannons positioned along the fortress walls finally fell silent.

Everyone watched as the thick cloud of smoke and dust slowly receded.

Bang! Bang!

Unfortunately for them, the familiar heavy footsteps echoed through the battlefield once again.

A moment later, Owen’s mighty figure emerged from the cloud of smoke and dust.

From his appearance, it was clear that the previous bombardment had done absolutely nothing to him.

Bang!

Owen slammed the bottom of his tower shield into the ground once again before raising his head.

”Is that all? It’s not even enough to massage my back!”
