Child of Destiny

Chapter 2150: Another Absurd Trial

...

Unaware that something big was happening, Shin returned to his room right after finishing all this training session and catching up with all the homework given by the academy, particularly the ones that came from Professor Henry.

He immediately logged back into the game and proceeded with the special trail Doran had prepared for him.

This time, he wanted to finish it in one go.

…

Tower of Inheritance, Second Floor.

Shinʼs figure kept on flashing from one place to another while stepping into the variety of stone pillars that were filling the entire field.

He must admit that he had gained quite a lot from this special trial that Doran had prepared. Not only had it enhanced his control over his body and reflexes, but also greatly improved his balance and situational and environmental awareness.

His focus was further sharpened as well, picking up even the slightest change in the surroundings.

His movement techniques were also indirectly improved by this special training, which Shin had somewhat expected.

At this moment, his movement techniques had reached a whole new level, which covered a much larger variety of situations.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

After a while, Shin finally stepped into the final stone pillar, signifying his success in this trial.

Ta-ta!

Right after landing on the ground, Shin faced Doran, who was currently sitting on the nearby boundary and looking at him with a satisfied smile.

Doran repeatedly nodded his head, feeling quite proud of the latterʼs achievements.

He could mess with Shin more during the final stages of the trial, planning to change the patterns and assignments of the stone pillars to destroy the rhythm that Shin had.

However, he immediately changed his mind after seeing how Shin was looking at him at that moment. He felt a bit bad for thoroughly messing with him previously.

”You have passed the test now, so it is time for you to move to the next floor,” he said before snapping his fingers to summon a portal beside him.

”Just go now. You have been staying on this floor for quite a while now, so I am sure that you have gotten tired and bored with my face now,” he chuckled while waving. ”If you want to see each other again, then strive to reach the higher floors in the future.”

Swoosh!

Without even waiting for Shin to say anything, Doran suddenly disappeared, signifying that he had returned to the floor he came from.

Watching this happen, Shin could not help but raise his brows a little before saying. ”Here I thought that we had gotten quite well with each other.”

*Ding*

Right after, a notification sound suddenly rang in his ears, signifying that he passed this floorʼs trial.

System: Congratulations, Challenger, for passing the second floor! You can now proceed to the next floor for the next stage of the trial.

*Ding*

System: You have passed the extra trial set by one of the tower administrators! An additional reward has been issued.

*Ding*

System: You have received a thousand inheritance stones!

Note: Inheritance stones are a unique currency within the tower that can be exchanged in the Inheritance shop.

*Ding*

System: You have yet to become a true disciple of the Tower of Inheritance, so you have yet to unlock these features.

…

Looking at the string of messages, Shin could not help but raise his brows, feeling a bit interested in the said ʼInheritance Shopʼ.

He had heard about such things, so he was not surprised. After all, even Longinus, the leader of the Mysterious Instructors at the Aurora Continent, had also mentioned the ʼGlory Shopʼ meant for the members of the God-Slayer Army.

”An Inheritance Shop, huh? I wonder what kind of items will be available there?” mumbled Shin after looking at the unique currency that he just received.

Given that a thousand points were given after passing such a hellish experience, Shin felt that it must be a lot, especially since it was supposed to be a special reward. He was wondering if he could buy a lot of useful things that he could use for different occasions.

After all, he had quite a lot of things in his arsenal, most of which were not even used to their fullest potential. The variety of potions that he had gotten from Adept Hands alone was more than enough to help him with a lot of situations, yet he rarely found the opportunity to use them due to his skills.

After resting for quite a while, Shin stepped into the portal leading to the third floor.

This should be the last floor before he exited this place. He was not planning to continue for the next floors, realizing that it would have much harder challenges than the ones that he faced on the first two floors.

Even though he was improving quite a lot, he felt that it would be a bit inefficient compared to what he could do outside.

He had been staying in this place for quite a while as well, so he felt that it would be time to return and try challenging this place again once he became a bit stronger.

He felt that he needed to be at least over level 200 or more before coming back. He also needed to deal with the other quests that he had been delaying up until now, especially the one concerning the [Ring of Abyssal Moon] and the Second Holy Maiden of the Temple of the Moon.

He felt the Holy Maiden would give him another troublesome quest once he met her, but it was better than randomly grinding levels and constantly honing his skills without using them in proper battle.

”Now that I think about it, the Hegemon Cup has been pushed too far behind,” he mumbled as he stepped into the portal. ”I am getting curious about the strength of those experts standing at the pinnacle of the game.”

”Ah! Now that I think about it, the other powerhouses at the Void Manifestation Stage and Rulerʼs Realm will most likely join the High Rankers as well, along with those Swordmasters.”

”There are also those Beta Testers! I wonder how strong they are,” he added, feeling a bit excited that there were much more powerful people to challenge out there.

He was quite eager to test his newly improved strength against such experts.

Swoosh!

In the next instant, he found himself standing right at the center of the void. There was nothing within this place other than absolute darkness.

”What kind of trial is it this time?” mumbled Shin while keeping his guard up and sweeping his gaze at the surroundings.

Surprisingly, even with the help of his True Sight Ocular Skill, Shin was unable to find anywhere.

The absolute darkness engulfing the entire place seemed to be giving Shin an uncomfortable feeling. It was as if something huge was trying to crush him.

He felt like a massive hand was slowly pressing him from the sky, trying to force him to his knees. It also felt like a huge snake slowly coiling around his body and steadily trying to crush him with it.

”Tsk! This is going to be a bit troublesome,” he mumbled after looking around for a while.

He might not be clear about the overall situation, but he had an idea of how troublesome this trial could be, given the current environment.

His senses were currently being affected by the invisible force enfolding the entire place, which was also affecting his other abilities.

Not long after, Shin suddenly sensed multiple presences lurking in the dark and directing their gazes at him.

With such a huge number of gazes being directed at him, Shin felt like there were countless daggers poking his body.

This sensation indicated that thousands of killing intent being pointed at him, making the expression on his face even graver.

He did not have to wait for the system to announce the task for this floor. These thousands of killing intents were more than enough to tell him what he needed to do on this floor.

*Ding*

Not long after, the system notification finally rang in his ears, telling him what to do for this floor.

System: Third Floor Trial is commencing!

System: As the first challenger of the Tower of Inheritance in a while, this floor will become a special checkpoint for your trials.

System: Pass this trial, and you will be able to save your progress until your next challenge.

*Ding*

System: Trial Goal – Survive for six hours.

Additional Goal: For every additional hour you survive, a hundred inheritance stones will be granted upon completion.

Warning: Dying will reset the timer for the challenge. The Challenger will have to start over again to continue.

System: The Trial will end when the challenger is satisfied with their progress or until they give up altogether.

System: Good luck, Challenger!

…

Looking at the string of notifications, Shin had gotten a rough understanding of the upcoming trial. ”Tsk! Tsk! This is going to be more troublesome than.”

If it were only for an hour or two, then he would not have had a chance to deal with it. However, it would be extremely challenging if he had to survive for six hours, especially in such an environment.
