Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely

146: Chapter 117: Teng Jiao Saliva and Poison Source [Two-in-One] 146: Chapter 117: Teng Jiao Saliva and Poison Source [Two-in-One] Although Teng Jiao is dead, the poison mist still hasn’t dispersed for a while.

“No need to wait, pack up and let’s go quickly!”

Yuan Cheng’s back was recovering from the ulceration, and the speed was quite rapid, but there were still no signs of him reviving.

Sensing a growing discomfort within, Xia Hong promptly ordered everyone to pack up and leave.

Xia Chuan carried Yuan Cheng off the ground, while the four people, including Luo Yuan, each carried a segment of Teng Jiao’s body, following behind Xia Hong as they returned to camp together.

“The whole operation just now took less than twenty minutes in total.

Teng Jiao’s strength wasn’t that formidable; the only troublesome part was the poison mist.

Without me, your team’s difficulty in leading a hunt would still be considerable.

For the time being, you should remain on the outskirts when leading hunting trips!”

“Yes, leader.”

The five people hurrying along in the back showed some excitement upon hearing Xia Hong’s words.

With prey like Snow Mane, Frost Wolf, and Demon Sheep, as long as they weren’t encountered in groups, the six of them leading the Hunting Team could hunt with no difficulty.

Xia Hong had previously mentioned that he would let them take charge.

With Xia Hong’s current statement, it was clear that their performance had gained his approval, and he was planning to officially hand over the Hunting Team to them, which naturally stirred a sense of excitement within the six of them.

“How did this Teng Jiao discover us just now?”

Zhao Long, carrying a segment of Teng Jiao’s head, asked in a puzzled tone.

At his query, everyone began to ponder.

Xia Hong also furrowed his brows; this question had been on his mind too.

In the Ice Abyss World, the extreme cold temperatures make it difficult for smells to spread; whether cold beasts or humans, it’s hard to determine enemies through scent.

Similarly, the extreme low temperature makes all objects, including humans, have very low body temperatures when outdoors, making it impossible to rely on heat sensing.

Moreover, they had minimized noise based on previous hunting experience, during which nighttime was a rest period for cold beasts.

As long as they weren’t provoked, they wouldn’t wake up.

“Last time, when being chased by a rodent swarm, it was the same; there wasn’t a sound, yet Teng Jiao discovered us early.

Could it be that the entire area shrouded by clouds and mist is Teng Jiao’s sensing range?”

Hearing Luo Yuan’s speculation, everyone’s eyes lit up, including Xia Hong’s.

But then Xia Hong shook his head and said, “A sensing range of fifty meters is unlikely.

If it had such a great power, then this Teng Jiao wouldn’t be something we could handle.

Moreover, if it had discovered us as soon as we entered the Cloud Mist Zone, tonight’s hunt wouldn’t have been this easy!”

From discovering Teng Jiao upon entering the Cloud Mist Zone to arranging everything and all seven climbing up trees, the whole process took at least ten minutes.

If they had been detected that early, Teng Jiao would have had plenty of methods to deal with the seven of them.

“One thing is certain: both the previous and tonight’s Teng Jiao detected us in advance without us realizing.

If you think about what common traits these two Teng Jiaos exhibited while they made their dens, you should find the answer.”

Upon Xia Hong’s mention, Xia Chuan and Luo Yuan immediately began recalling.

Apart from Xia Hong, only they had seen two Teng Jiaos.

“The tail!”

“The tail!”

Xia Chuan and Luo Yuan simultaneously blurted out, evidently thinking of the same thing.

Hearing the word “tail,” Xia Hong was momentarily startled, then a spark appeared in his eyes, and a look of sudden realization came across his face.

That’s right!

The tails of both Teng Jiaos that lurked in the trees were inserted into the snow on the ground.

Xia Chuan and Luo Yuan’s guess is probably correct; Teng Jiao most likely senses ground vibrations with its tail to determine enemies.

“Close to the truth.

Next time before hunting a Teng Jiao, test it out.

Xia Chuan, remember this when you return, and if confirmed after testing, make sure to record it in the Great Xia Cold Beast Record.”

“Yes, leader!”

Detecting the seriousness in Xia Hong’s voice, Xia Chuan solemnly nodded in acknowledgment.

Xia Hong wasn’t spending time guessing Teng Jiao’s adversarial methods and habits without reason.

After every hunt, he would lead everyone in reviewing the process, summarizing individual losses and the traits of different preys.

The main purpose behind this was to compile the Great Xia Cold Beast Record.

Since seeing the Cold Beast Scroll left behind by Luo Ming, Xia Hong began this project.

From the current perspective, most of the casualties during camp hunts were due to unfamiliarity with the prey.

Hence, collecting information on various cold beasts became especially crucial.

The current Great Xia Cold Beast Record documents only seven cold beasts: Snow Mane, Frost Wolf, Demon Sheep, Rodent, Teng Jiao, Thunder Kui, and Blue Moon Elf, with the latter two yet to have been encountered.

But as the hunting team’s activity range expands, they encounter more cold beasts, and the records will surely grow.

Future generations benefit from previous efforts; although the current documentation seems redundant, it will be immensely valuable for those later joining the hunting effort at camp.

Reducing member casualties during hunts, increasing hunting success rates, demystifying cold beasts to make them less enigmatic…

The compilation of the Great Xia Cold Beast Record is of immense significance to Great Xia.

Xia Chuan also understood this reason, which is why he responded to Xia Hong’s instructions with such solemnity.
