All Worlds Beg the Villainess to Act Like a Human

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Onlookers to a Love-Brained Brother Court Death (44)

Lan Yazhen couldn’t stay at Tenglann High School to continue her studies. Life at home was challenging, with her parents showing different faces and relatives whispering criticisms behind her back.

She vowed to get into a good school and prove them wrong.

However, it was all in vain, and she barely scraped into a mediocre local school. Her family members were upset, feeling that Lan Yazhen had embarrassed them.

Brother Gu’s verbal concern was gradually wearing on her nerves. He kept showing up unexpectedly and even taking her out for milk tea, which she no longer enjoyed.

Gu Jingkui was like a sticky candy; she couldn’t quite shake him off, so she just tried to avoid him.

Things were more relaxed on Qiann Yan’s side. The company was thriving and no longer as busy, allowing her spare time to jog in the morning and practice some boxing exercises. During one of these sessions, she met Lin Shanghuai, who started inviting her for morning runs.

She thought it was nice to have someone to chat with, especially since he was an orthopedic doctor who might come in handy later on.

In the morning, Qiann Yan changed her clothes and left the house, finding Lin Shanghuai already waiting there.

”Doctor Lin, let’s go.”

”Alright.”

Neither of them was particularly talkative, but Lin Shanghuai would share amusing stories from the hospital and ask if Qiann Yan’s company was doing well, if she was tired, and remind her to take care of her health.

Qiann Yan thought Lin Shanghuai truly lived up to being a doctor, always concerned about others’ well-being.

After about ten minutes of running, Qiann Yan received a phone call filled with Lan Yazhen’s sobbing voice.

”Brother Gu’s head is bleeding profusely...”

Qiann Yan rushed to the hospital. ”What happened?”

”I... I came home today and saw many people blocking the entrance. I was scared and called Brother Gu to come and take a look...”

Gu Jingkui’s head injury wasn’t severe, but he had two broken ribs and a fractured arm.

The men who assaulted him were debt collectors; Lan Yazhen’s father had developed a gambling addiction.

Lin Shanghuai hadn’t expected Gu Jingkui to end up in his care for a second time, and both times he’d been beaten.

In the original story, Gu Jingkui had limited mobility and wasn’t involved in this conflict; the unlucky one was Xiaang Zheng.

Later, Gu Jingkui helped Father Lan pay off the gambling debt. The boss of the illegal casino was a desperado who thought he could exploit Father Lan for money.

Gu Jingkui was foolishly fond of Lan Yazhen and refused to cover the debt. The casino people tempted Father Lan to offer Lan Yazhen as collateral. Someone trapped in gambling loses their humanity, and a daughter as a debt settlement seemed like manna from heaven.

...

Several months later, Gu Jingkui had fully recovered.

Father Lan lost everything at the illegal casino and eventually, unsurprisingly, offered Lan Yazhen as collateral.

Lan Yazhen was grabbed at their doorstep without even a chance to scream.

Gu Jingkui was stunned upon receiving Father Lan’s call.

”How much do they want?”

”One billion.”

Gu Jingkui gasped, a billion? How could he possibly come up with that? Even if the company had it, it wouldn’t be easy to liquidate such a large sum, and besides, he didn’t have the authority to move the funds.

”They said there’s only one month, and if I can’t get it, they’ll kill Yazhen. They’re in a location beyond our country’s jurisdiction.” Father Lan wept bitterly, ”Mr. Gu, please save Yazhen, I was momentarily tempted by them, I didn’t mean to.”

Believing a gambler was strange, yet he had no choice but to save Yazhen; those people were capable of anything.

He had to figure out a way to scrape together one billion. He planned to sell all his fixed assets, investments, and stock funds at a lower price for quick cash. He also intended to transfer his shares in the Gu Family.

Qiann Yan appeared at the room’s entrance, ”I can help you save Lan Yazhen, but you must transfer all your assets to me.”

The frantic Gu Jingkui looked over, seeing the slim girl in a white suit who seemed to have matured a bit longer. For a moment, he was dazed.
