Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

”An equal society, the last pure land for humanity. Tsk tsk tsk.” Xie Ning couldn’t help but laugh. ”Just you?”

”You’ve holed up in this shopping center just to become a king of the mountain, haven’t you? Why paint yourself as so noble?”

”Why don’t you just say it outright? You just want supplies! Even if you had the ability to secure a bunch of supplies, ask yourself, would you really share them with these ordinary people?”

”You’ve deceived these ordinary people, turning every one of them into a slave for your own selfish desires. Are they and you truly on equal footing?”

”You just need slaves.”

The young girl let out a long breath and spread her hands helplessly. ”You men... tsk. Stupid, arrogant, disgusting. The age of feudal dynasties is long past, yet you still want to turn back the clock.”

”You want to be king, but you just don’t have the power. I understand the twisted psychology of people like you best. In reality, you’re more desperate to get superpowers than any Superpower User.”

”Unfortunately, you weren’t chosen by fate.” The young girl spread her hands as she finished speaking and tilted her head.

”Shut up!!” An enraged and humiliated Cao Fa roared, his eyes wide as saucers.

Xie Ning had hit him right where it hurt.

He really did want to get superpowers. He wanted it more than anything.

Seeing how glorious and powerful Superpower Users were, he never said anything, but deep down, he was already dying of jealousy.

Now, these darkest, most hidden emotions from the depths of his heart were being dug up bit by bit by Xie Ning, exposed for all to see.

The sense of shame was indescribable.

”Just give us time! Let us establish Oasis Base, and sooner or later, it will become the brightest, most promising base in the world!” Lu Zhong shouted angrily, grinding his teeth. ”Do you dare to make a bet with me?”

A calculating glint flashed in Lu Zhong’s eyes. ”Let’s make it a year. You can see whether or not I’m up to the task of leading these people...”

”I don’t bet.” Xie Ning refused to take the bait, shaking her head seriously.

”You don’t dare?” Lu Zhong was enraged and humiliated.

Xie Ning shook her head again. ”No. It’s that I never bet with dead men.”

”It’s boring.”

Cao Fa’s pupils contracted. Just as he shouted, ”Zhong!”, he saw a Metal Spike fly from a distance and pierce straight through Lu Zhong’s neck.

A bloody hole blossomed as blood sprayed from Lu Zhong’s neck, causing a group of ordinary people nearby to shriek and howl.

Zuo Li and her teammates all stared with wide eyes.

Beichen also wore a look of utter astonishment.

They probably hadn’t expected such a seemingly fair and clean-cut young girl to be so ruthless.

”You... how could you kill someone?” A woman in her early sixties standing nearby stared at Xie Ning in terror, pointing and shrieking. ”You stole someone’s RV, and now you’re killing people! You... you’re too... you have no regard for human life!”

Xie Ning offered no explanation and simply started walking toward the stairwell.

Cres, however, couldn’t stand it. He glared angrily at the woman. ”The RV was ours in the first place! There was no ’stealing’ about it.”

Zuo Li, meanwhile, simply raised a hand and had her teammates dispose of Cao Fa and his accomplices in the black tank tops.

The older woman stared at them in terror, as if they were some kind of murderous monsters, her chapped lips trembling.

A gentle-looking young man who looked like a college student in Zuo Li’s team spoke up at the right moment. ”Ma’am, those people really weren’t good people. They aren’t worthy of your sympathy. Think about it. When they detained all of you here, was it really just to create a small society of equality and shared prosperity?”

”Didn’t they force you to hand over supplies and protection fees? Did they not harass any of you?”

”Just a moment ago, they were trying to use you as bargaining chips to negotiate with us!”

The older woman suddenly recalled the exceptionally shrill screams of several young women, including Hong Peiling, from a few nights ago. Her face fell in embarrassment, and she shut her mouth.

Xie Ning, of course, couldn’t be bothered with what a few bystanders thought of her.

’Even if they had an opinion, they’d best keep it to themselves.’

She had already reached the second floor alone, her eyes fixed on the densely packed zombies swarming behind the heavy stairwell door.

Several bolts of purple-red lightning struck down.

Xie Ning turned her head just in time to see Xiao Qi Zi run over. He threw two Water Balls, which mixed with Thunder Balls as they landed on the door.

A large number of zombies behind the stairwell door were electrocuted in the water.

Although the zombies felt no pain or sensation of being shocked, it definitely hindered their movements.

Xie Ning’s eyes lit up. Seeing the horde of zombies blocked behind the door, their movements paused in comical twitches, she immediately rushed forward without a second thought.

However, Luo Kui was a step faster.

The brawny man, who stood two meters tall, was a mass of bulging, corded muscles.

A single punch sent the double doors of the stairwell flying inward, crushing a swath of zombies.

Golden Eagle, Feixiang, and Superpower Users from many other teams also rushed up to the second floor, unleashing their superpowers on the zombie horde as if they were free.

In contrast, Cres and Yu Tianfeng were pushed aside by these valiant Superpower Users and stuck at the bottom of the stairs.

Cres could only raise his voice to shout to her, ”Hey, woman! There are no zombies above First Rank in this building, they’re all Initial Stage!”

”But there really are a lot of them, at least three thousand!”

Xie Ning grunted in acknowledgment, then suddenly lost all interest in fighting these Initial-stage zombies.

’What’s the point? Fighting them is useless. Initial-stage zombies don’t have Crystal Cores in their heads, so it’s a complete waste of effort.’

”Hey, foreign kid, are you sure?” Zuo Li asked, creating an electric net with one hand as she looked down at the blond little boy on the stairs, a strange light in her eyes.

”I’m sure.” Xie Ning, who was standing beside her, nodded, suddenly feeling like she had no role to play.

Because all the Superpower Users were behind her, desperately throwing their superpowers inside, creating a flashy and chaotic but passionate scene...

Besides, the moment she heard ”Initial-stage zombies,” Xie Ning felt her motivation deflate.

”Little sister, want to join our Sweet Potato Team? We didn’t get to finish our chat just now. Big sister here thinks you’re really great!”

Xie Ning looked at her, her face expressionless.

’I was going to tell her not to be so casual about picking a team name, because once a team name is registered, it’s for life...’

’But it looks like I’m a step too late. The name is already set.’

’In her past life, Zuo Li regretted the team name she’d casually blurted out every time she had to turn in a mission.’

’Sandwiched between teams like the ”Overlord Team,” ”Jian Country Team,” and ”Wolf Pack Team,” the Sweet Potato Team made Captain Zuo feel embarrassed every single time.’

To think Captain Zuo had already formed her team this early. Xie Ning looked at Zuo Li with a strange expression, as if she were a hopeless case.

The latter blinked, and her bangs shifted, revealing a faint scar above her left eyebrow.

”Little sister, stop thinking about it and just join us! The atmosphere in our Sweet Potato Team is really great!”

Staring into Captain Zuo’s bright, sparkling eyes, Xie Ning, for a moment, actually felt inclined to nod.

Cres quickly craned his neck and yelled upstairs, ”Captain, Captain, snap out of it! Don’t be rash! Are you going to abandon our team of the old, weak, sick, and disabled to join another squad?”
