Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 558: Chapter 558 Beauty (15)_1 Chapter 558: Chapter 558 Beauty (15)_1 “It must have been mixed with the blood of some Transcendent creature, just at a very low concentration.”

Under Zetian’s expectant gaze, Fu Qian lifted the cup.

However, he didn’t rush to drink, instead bringing it close to take a careful look.

There was an obvious trace of Transcendent essence lingering, so he finally understood what use those continuously harvested Transcendent creatures had.

But such a trial product, intended for the masses, surely wouldn’t contain any precious materials.

At the same time, Fu Qian didn’t believe this method could create any sort of man-made Transcendent army.

Those with nothing might be willing to gamble everything, but once someone truly became a Transcendent, the number willing to be mere test subjects would dwindle significantly.

Therefore, the tests by Yasui Corp were likely aimed primarily at summarizing patterns.

Regrettably, judging from the current very low success rate, they hadn’t even managed to discern any patterns.

“The elixir has a time limit.”

Lost in thought, he heard Zetian’s reminder in his ear, and the voice even sounded somewhat sorrowful.

Was he worried that he might change his mind and not drink it?

What a joke, why would he have gone through all this trouble if he wasn’t going to drink it?

Fu Qian shook his head internally, lifted the cup, and drank it all in one go.

The somewhat warm liquid flowed down his throat, and instantly it felt like countless bubbles bursting, bringing waves of invisible agitation.

Fu Qian closed his eyes to savor the sensation.

It definitely contained Transcendent remnants, but it didn’t seem very potent!

Doubts quickly arose in his mind.

After the initial surge, no further anomalies occurred.

A whiff of Transcendent aura, like fireworks, was gone in a flash.

This could be troublesome!

For a moment, Fu Qian took a deep breath.

No effect was not a good sign, and it might even be indicative of a bigger problem.

Considering he was now a Demigod, it was certain that something intended for regular people would have little effect on him.

But the reason he still wanted to taste this elixir was due to his ability as an Original Sin Sage named “Insight.”

If this elixir really followed some pattern, contained some Transcendent power codes, after swallowing it, it might not induce the effect of Insight, rather than simply being rejected and digested.

However, now it was just a ripple, with no subsequent sensation.

There seemed to be a strong reason to believe this was a failed formula.

But then the question arose, why did a failed formula elicit a reaction in Kagetsu Kana, even to the exaggerated extent of Resurrection?

He had observed her repeatedly, and though she had undergone Resurrection, there were indeed no fluctuations of Transcendent power within her.

The same was true for Yasui Corp; after numerous tests, Kagetsu Kana was evidently considered a failure.

Therefore, the essence of this mission clearly wasn’t because Yasui Corp discovered some incredible Miracle Elixir formula requiring his help to clear their warehouse.

After all, from what Zetian said, successful cases, although rare and not patterned, did exist.

There were successful formulas, yet they specifically targeted an ineffective one, what was the reason for that?

If this anomalous case of Kagetsu Kana were discovered by Yasui Corp, what harm could it potentially bring about?

…

“How do you feel?”

Seeing Fu Qian down the elixir in one gulp, Zetian seemed to finally breathe a sigh of relief.

“It doesn’t feel like much.”

Unfortunately for his expectant gaze, Fu Qian simply shook his head and chose to tell the truth.

“No feeling… are you sure?”

For a moment, Zetian seemed stunned as he stared at Fu Qian, his voice even turning dry.

“Yes, there’s absolutely no change,”

Fu Qian placed the cup back down, speaking quite frankly.

“At first glance, it seems I am not that lucky lottery winner.”

As for the reaction from this individual, Fu Qian clearly understood the reason behind it.

To achieve the effect agreed upon by both parties, it was undoubtedly more reasonable to have some slight changes after drinking it.

Otherwise, if there is no reaction at the beginning and an overly abrupt strength later on, it would undoubtedly appear suspicious.

What a pity, Fu Qian was not planning to cooperate in that manner.

The things he was currently doing could be described as completely beyond his assigned mission.

And the purpose of doing these, while it was to alleviate the doubts in his mind, the mission ultimately still had to be completed.

Therefore, with regard to the “Creep-7” formula, Fu Qian was completely unwilling to let it catch the attention of Yasui Corp.

Not only that, but he even intended to use his own case to further confirm to them that the formula was a failure.

“After the first ingestion of the elixir, if it is effective, there is generally some reflection in the body’s data,”

Zetian, who took Fu Qian out of the room, still seemed a bit resentful as he spoke.

At this point, the other gentleman had already left, clearly his task was simply to confirm that the test subject had ingested the elixir.

“Is that so? What a pity, I really don’t feel anything right now. The most important thing in research is to seek truth from facts, right?”

Fu Qian glanced at him, his tone meaningful.

His message was clear: fabricate the data as I want, and don’t play any tricks.

…

It was at this moment that Zetian realized he was completely trapped, without any bargaining power to speak of.

After all, should the series of actions he took later be discovered, the consequences would be far more severe than simply being dismissed from the company. Thus, apart from doing as this madman demanded, he had apparently no other choice.

How could he have ever thought of cooperating with a madman?

“Fine.”

For a moment, his tone was quite heavy.

…

It must be said, thanks to Zetian’s meticulous arrangements, the whole process was quite efficient.

But when Fu Qian emerged, Kagetsu Kana’s figure was already long gone from the outside.

Had she left early after being deeply disappointed by the test results?

Fu Qian thought quietly to himself, not intending to go out looking for her.

She probably wasn’t too dangerous right now, and considering his own character setting, chasing after her would only arouse suspicion.

In fact, right after the Miracle Elixir proved ineffective, Fu Qian even considered swallowing someone directly to see the effect.

Although this would inevitably lead to mission failure, if he could obtain valuable information, sacrificing some SAN Points would not be too big of an issue.

…

In the spacious room, Fu Qian sat alone at the dining table.

In front of him was a plate of pasta, which he had cooked for himself using the high-end kitchenware that filled the house.

After coming out of Yasui Tower, he pondered for a while, and ultimately did not rush to act but instead went home to wait and observe.

And just as he was about to start eating, with a soft click, the door suddenly opened by itself.

Fu Qian emotionlessly looked up toward the doorway.

The next moment, with a sharp whoosh of wind and a splatter of blood, his right hand was stabbed straight through.

The weapon was a delicately crafted dagger, its slender blade piercing through the back of his hand and firmly nailing it to the table.

The force was so great that it buried itself all the way to the hilt.

“Lady Suzune,”

Fu Qian switched the spoon to his other hand and nonchalantly scooped up a spoonful of pasta to his mouth.

“If you’re hungry, there’s actually a bit more over there.”
