You Promised to Be an Idle Son-in-Law, How Could You Become a Land Immortal?

All he had to do now was follow the plan. He was confident the Medical Dao Academy could officially hang its plaque in less than two months.

Not long after, Chen Yi had Wang Ji detour to Chuansi Street, where he brought Pei Guanli to the house.

Pei Guanli curiously sized up the house, looking it over inside and out several times.

She knew Chen Yi was the man behind Hundred Herbs Hall, but she wasn’t clear on his other activities.

But coming here now, she didn’t have to be a genius to guess that Chen Yi had made preparations long in advance.

”Brother-in-law, did you buy this?”

Chen Yi hummed in affirmation. He went into the main room, sat down, and waited for Zhang Dabao to arrive.

Seeing that he wasn’t going to say more, Pei Guanli pulled over a Grandmaster’s Chair, sat down beside him, and stared at him with wide, unblinking eyes.

Her stare made Chen Yi squirm. ”Just ask whatever you want to ask.”

”Brother-in-law, when you find something fun to do, do you just do it secretly by yourself and not include me?”

”Fun?”

Chen Yi reached out and flicked her on the forehead. ”If I brought you along,” he said irritably, ”now *that’s* when it would get fun.”

’It really wouldn’t have been wise to bring Pei Guanli along for his past endeavors.’

’Take the time he burned the Three Towns’ summer grain supply. If he hadn’t been completely out of options, there was no way he would have let this Tiger Girl deliver a message to Xiao Jinghong.’

Pei Guanli rubbed her forehead and pouted. ”I knew it. Brother-in-law doesn’t want to have fun with me. You’re a meanie.”

Chen Yi shot her a look. ”You want to go home, then?”

Pei Guanli froze for a second, then leaned in closer and asked excitedly, ”I knew you wouldn’t forget about me, Brother-in-law!”

”Quick, tell me! What do you need me to do?”

”Why aren’t you calling me a meanie anymore?”

”I wasn’t...”

After a bit more teasing, Chen Yi glanced at the sky and told her to take out the various vials and jars she had on her.

”I need to concoct a few poisons. Let’s see if you have anything I can use.”

’His previous encounter with Yan Fusha had taught him that while poisons like Immortal Drunk and Qingfeng Drunk were fine for dealing with ordinary Jianghu People, they weren’t quite potent enough for members of the Evil Demonic Dao, who worked with poisons year-round.’

’And Black Magic Masters like Lv Jiunan were exactly that type of foe.’

’So, Chen Yi planned to snag some of the Mountain Race’s ”local specialties” from Pei Guanli and see if he could create a more powerful poison.’

After examining all the poisons Pei Guanli carried, he couldn’t help but marvel. It was no wonder the Mountain Race was so feared by the Jianghu People of Shu State.

The sheer variety of poisons and Gu Insects she carried was enough to leave even him astounded.

After picking through them, he selected three vials and had Pei Guanli put the rest away for a rainy day.

”Brother-in-law, you brought me here... just for this?”

Seeing the Tiger Girl’s slight disappointment, Chen Yi could only smile and say, ”Of course not. In a little while, you’re coming with me to do something big.”

”Alright!”

About an hour later, Zhang Dabao returned in a hurry.

Before he could say much, Chen Yi instructed him to apply his disguise.

”Did you find the two of them?”

”Yes, sir. They’re in Heiyu Lane, deep within the West Market. It’s the same place General Jinghong raided before.”

”And Liu Lang?”

”He’s still there watching them. I’ve already told him to keep his distance.”

Chen Yi nodded and said no more.

Once his disguise was complete, before Pei Guanli could ask anything, he had her change into a black robe and put on a bronze mask. Then, with Zhang Dabao driving the carriage, they headed for the East Market.

Along the way, Pei Guanli asked a single question at the start, but spent the rest of the journey visibly thrilled.

By the time they reached Pingyao Lane in the East Market, she could barely contain her laughter.

”Brother-in-law, this is the first time I’ve ever done something so fun! Disguises, fake identities... Do you think I should come up with a cool-sounding title for myself?”

”Fairy Pei? Or Pei Xingdao, for ’delivering justice on heaven’s behalf’...”

But when she noticed the look in Chen Yi’s eyes, her expression immediately turned serious.

”Okay, okay, I get it. Serious business first.”

Chen Yi paid her no mind. He listened intently for a moment, his gaze landing on a nearby residence.

Just as he was about to go and investigate, he faintly heard a pleading voice with a strange accent coming from inside:

”...Please, I... I beg you, don’t kill...”

”If you have to kill someone, kill me...”

”My apologies, but in today’s little drama, ’The Wildcat for the Prince,’ you are the star. You can’t die...”
