Eternal Forge: Starting with a SSS Rank talent and a Myth Rank Class

Chapter 52: Chapter 52- Repair of Legendary Hammer, Mjolnir Final.

After brainstorming together with all the blacksmiths present, they finally arrived at a solution they all agreed on.

Leo reached for the Starfall ore—the metal formed from the collision of a dying star, carrying a density and luminosity no mortal ore could match. He then selected the three purest pieces of Uru from the stack. This was the legendary metal of Asgard, the very substance from which Thor’s hammer had originally been forged.

He threw both the Starfall ore and the Uru into the crucible and heated them with his Eternal Flame.

The Eternal Flame roared to life. Gold-white fire enveloped the ores, and the temperature inside the forge spiked. The air shimmered. The blacksmiths stepped back instinctively.

Master Kael wiped his brow. ”That flame... it’s hotter than before.”

Lady Silva added, ”As it should be. In the state we saw during the competition, it would have stood no chance of melting Uru. Normally it takes a fire-mana-rich environment and many days of work just to bring it to a liquid state.”

But, when both metals began to melt, they refused to mix. They fought each other. The two substances were fundamentally different—different densities, different crystalline structures, different magical signatures. They swirled together in the crucible but refused to merge.

Surtr, watching closely, immediately identified the cause. ”The metals are vibrating at different frequencies. It’s a resonance conflict. Harmonize them by adjusting the temperature in different sections so that both vibrate at matching frequencies. That will solve the problem.”

Leo controlled his fire with practiced precision. He was no stranger to such situations and had long experience maintaining different temperatures within the same flame.

The swirling slowed. The two metals began to merge.

A new alloy formed—neither pure Starfall nor pure Uru, but something greater. It glowed with a deep, warm gold that seemed to carry starlight within it. Dense. Resonant. Alive.

”Its quality has been further purified and elevated by the fire,” Elder Thrain observed, stroking his beard.

Leo poured the molten metal into six fist-sized square molds and allowed them to cool.

Once solidified, he lifted each piece from its mold and placed it on the anvil. He raised the Starfall Hammer and brought it down. Then he reheated each billet and hammered it, folded it, and flattened it until the alloy showed no trace of the previous layering. The metal was now properly tempered and fully unified.

He arranged the six finished pieces on the workbench—Starfall-Uru composite, ready to fill Mjölnir’s largest voids.

”Forty percent of the hammer’s volume is gone,” Lady Silva observed, studying the pieces. ”These five should fill the main hollows. The remaining cracks will still need liquid metal.”

”Which is why we pour at last,” Leo replied.

Now came the runes: the Synthesis Rune and the Binding Rune.

He had practiced both extensively within the Inscription Realm, for they numbered among the forty-seven that required restoration. Yet he had never imagined he would need them not merely to repair damaged runes, but to carve them directly into the alloy pieces themselves.

....

Nervousness still lingered at the edges of his mind, yet his confidence held firm.

He took a deep breath, released it, then drew out his carving pen and began.

As he worked, Surtr guided him.

”The shape is simple,” Surtr explained. ”A spiral of three branching lines. One represents the old metal. One represents the new. One represents the bond between them. The spiral draws energy inward, creates the field, and holds it.”

”And the activation?” Leo asked.

”Tsk. That’s what you get for only practicing the rune in the Inscription Realm. You can carve the shape, yet you still don’t know which line goes where—or how and why.”

”Tsk, tsk...” Surtr couldn’t stop complaining.

”Heat. Force. Intent. The same three requirements for any rune worth carving. But intent is critical here. You are not merely inscribing a symbol. You are telling two metals that have never met that they belong together.”

”So carve the branch for the old metal into the original structure, the branch for the new metal into the alloy, and the bond line into both—just as we practiced.”

Surtr’s encouragement steadied him. Leo nodded and continued, carving the spiral for the new metal and the bonding spiral into all five alloy pieces. When the last stroke was complete, he exhaled in relief.

The most difficult work remained: carving inside the hammer itself.

”You have carved this many times in the Inscription Realm, and now you have even done so in the real world,” Surtr said. ”It should be no different here. Control your fire and wield it as a blade similar to your inscription pen. Now that your flame carries sword energy, the carving will come more easily. You cannot use your hand—the hollow sections are far too narrow.”

Leo calmed himself and focused.

The Eternal Flame condensed into a thin, needle-like blade and slipped into the hollows on a current of fire. With his Forge Eyes fully activated, he examined the internal structures with surgical precision.

Slowly, carefully, he began drawing the spiral branch that represented the old metal and the one that represented the bond into every hollow section. Every nerve was concentrated on the task. Sweat poured down his face; his complexion had gone pale.

At last the internal carving was finished.

”Good. Preparations are complete,” Surtr said. ”Now fill the body with the alloy.”

Leo nodded. He turned Mjölnir on its side and secured it with supports and clamps from all four directions so that the force of hammering would close the cracks rather than widen them.

He heated each solid alloy piece in his hands until it softened, then placed it over the larger voids and began driving it home with the Starfall Hammer. Strike by strike, the metal was pushed into the damaged sections. He repeated the process for every major hollow parts.

When the solid pieces were seated, Leo melted the remaining alloy in a crucible and carefully poured the liquid into the finer surface cracks, checking with Forge Sight until every fissure was filled.

He then heated the entire hammer and struck it a few times out of habit, trying to smooth any remaining protrusions.

The judges stiffened in alarm.

Surtr stared at him in disbelief.

”Are you dumb? Why are you hammering? Hammering or not won’t make the slightest difference right now. The internal resonance is still broken. You’re just making noise.”

The judges, on the other hand, were still tense, half-expecting the hammer to crack further under any blow.

Leo did not know whether to laugh or cry at the two completely opposite reactions.

The hammer nevertheless began to glow faintly.

It was whole again.

[Note: Surface restoration complete. Rune restoration pending.]

After reading the notification, Leo judged that the temporary fragment could now be safely removed.

The fused sword fragment still protruded from the hammer’s side—the emergency splint that had held the structure together. The binding runes Leo had previously drawn over it remained stable for the moment, but the hammer was now reinforced, the voids filled, the surface restored. The fragment had served its purpose.

It was time.

Leo gripped the protruding end.

The judges’ faces went pale.

”Leo.” Elder Thrain’s voice was careful, measured. ”You’re certain about this?”

”The fragment has done its job,” Leo answered, voice flat and controlled. ”It bought us time. Now we finish the work.”

A thin line of golden fire traced the boundary between fragment and hammer, dissolving the temporary bonds. The metal hummed and vibrated. The binding runes flickered.

He pulled.

The fragment slid free with a grinding screech. Mjölnir shuddered. A hairline crack raced across the face—and stopped. Barely.

The binding matrix held.

Leo immediately melted the remaining part of the last alloy and sealed the depression left by the fragment.

Only the broken runes remained.

Surtr, however, suggested one more step.

”Good. The temporary support is gone and the last void is closed. The structure is stable enough now. Nothing is blocking the synthesizing and binding runes anymore. The new alloy and the old metal can finally act as a single unit.”

Then Surtr looked at Leo with a smug face.

”Now you can hammer. Unlike your previous attempt, this time it won’t be completely worthless.”

Leo’s eyebrow twitched. Dark lines practically formed on his forehead as he stared at Surtr with a flat, slightly exasperated expression, the corner of his mouth twitching in silent protest.

Surtr ignored it completely and continued,

”Test it first. Strike once and listen—dense sound or hollow? If it still rings hollow, use the Starfall Hammer at full force. Every blow will drive the new alloy deeper into the old layers, eliminate the micro-gaps, and lock the density in, while the metal still carries residual heat. Do it now, before it fully hardens.”

Leo lifted the Starfall Hammer with a quiet sigh.

The weight felt natural. Right.

He struck Mjölnir.

CLANG!

The sound was different now—deeper, richer, a bell-like resonance that echoed through the chamber. The surface dimpled under the impact, then smoothed as the metal redistributed.

CLANG!

Another strike. The surface tightened. Through the handle of the Starfall Hammer he could feel the layers compressing, bonding, densifying.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

Five strikes. Ten. Fifteen. Each precise, each targeted at a specific section.

When he finished, Mjölnir’s surface was flawless—dense, smooth as glass, ready for the final stage.

---

Now the runes.

The first was simple: a basic strengthening rune, one of the most common symbols recorded on nearly every stele he had studied. Leo repaired it cleanly, connecting the broken segments with new strokes. The lines were deep and precise. When finished, the rune settled into the metal with a soft hum.

Then the second.

The third.

The fifth.

The tenth.

Leo found his rhythm. His hands moved with growing confidence; the carving pen flowed like a smooth river.

Some runes were simple—strengthening, binding, channeling. Others were complex, multi-layered symbols that required three or four passes to complete.

The twentieth. A difficult resonance glyph designed to amplify the hammer’s impact by drawing ambient mana into the strike. Leo’s hands trembled as he carved the intricate interior lines. One slip would misalign the entire glyph.

He steadied his breath, drew on the last reserves of focus, and finished the stroke.

The rune settled.

The thirty-fifth. The fortieth. The symbols grew denser now—divine glyphs carrying the essence of thunder and storm, Thor’s own signature. Leo carved them with reverence, feeling the weight of history in every line.

The forty-fifth: a lightning conductor that channeled electrical energy through the core and into the striking face. His hands moved almost automatically, the motion burned into muscle memory by hours of practice.

The forty-sixth: a binding seal that locked the previous rune in place and prevented long-term degradation.

One remained.

Leo paused before the forty-seventh—the final glyph.

It was the rune of regeneration, the most complex masterwork symbol of all. It unified the forty-six restored runes with every intact rune still present on Mjölnir, weaving them into a single cohesive matrix. Without it, the others would never function at even half their true efficiency. This was the rune that made the weapon divine.

Leo believed that once this final rune was restored, Mjölnir would begin regenerating everything else on its own—runes, material, structure—until it reached its optimum state.

Even with all his practice in the Inscription Realm, he could not entirely suppress the nervousness as he studied the damaged space.

He carved the first stroke—deep.

The second: a curve that joined the first. The metal hummed.

The third. The fourth. The fifth. Each stroke built upon the last. Leo’s hands moved with a certainty that transcended ordinary skill—something that lived in the space between intention and action.

The final stroke.

He drew it home.

The rune blazed.

A radiance that existed between white and gold—so pure it seemed to bend the light around it. The forty-seventh rune pulsed once, twice, three times. Then all forty-seven ignited in sequence, a cascade of golden light racing across Mjölnir’s surface like fire along a fuse.
