War Sovereign Soaring The Heavens

Although many ventured to the Land of the Dead, they would not wander too deep into it since they were afraid of running into its inhabitants. The reason the Land of the Dead was the third deadliest place in the Devata Realms was mostly due to its inhabitants. In fact, even Kings of Gods and Lords of Gods would find it difficult to survive if they encountered those powerful inhabitants in the Land of the Dead. There were many Emperors of Gods there, but no one knew if there were Supreme Gods there.

In fact, the Phantom Clan was just one of the weaker sects in the Land of the Dead due to the members’ innate talent and soul-like existence. The strongest person in the clan was merely a King of Gods. In the history of the clan, there was no Lord of Gods at all. The restriction was that they would never become stronger than a King of God if they did not possess a physical body. Moreover, those who managed to possess a physical body and became Lords of God were no longer considered members of the clan.

There was a strict rule in the clan that those who possessed a human, beast, or any living thing would be killed. This iron-clad existed because those who possessed physical bodies would gain the ability to grow stronger through devouring their clansmen. A long time ago, an incident like this happened, almost wiping out the clan. If it were not for the clan’s Supreme Elder sacrificing himself by using the clan’s secret weapon to kill the rogue clansman, the clan would not have survived that disaster. Hence, since that incident, they had been very strict regarding the possession of physical bodies. If any of the clansmen were found to have possessed a physical body, they would be killed unless they managed to flee the Land of the Dead. Even then, they would have to live on the run.

For all these reasons, Great Master Miyan did not return to the Phantom Clan at all after possessing Ru Lai’s body. He knew very well the clan would not let him go if they discovered he had possessed a physical body. However, due to his sense of urgency and his relationship with his brother, who was the Clan Leader of the Phantom Clan, he decided to take a chance and return to the clan. He was certain, at the very least, that his brother would not expose his secret to the clan. After all, if his secret was discovered, it would negatively impact his brother as well. At that time, not only would his brother lose his position as the clan leader, his brother might even be expelled or killed because of this matter. Although the position of clan leader sounded lofty, the figure who held the greatest authority was the Supreme Elder of the clan, who was also the clan’s secret weapon and strongest powerhouse.

After Great Master Miyan arrived near the vicinity of the Phantom Clan, he wasted no time and sent his eldest brother, Mi Xuan, a message.

Members of the Phantom Clan did not need Soul Pearls to communicate when in close proximity. Through the vibrations of their souls, they could easily communicate with each other. It was somewhat similar to radio signals that broadcasting stations used on earth where Duan Ling Tian came from.

“Miyan?”

Mi Xuan, the Clan Leader of the Phantom Clan, was in the clan estate when he received Great Master Miyan’s message. He was in the form of a dark green energy that was vaguely human-shaped. At this time, the energy roiled slightly; this was a sign of agitation of members of the clan.

“Where have you been all these years? Why didn’t you come see me at the estate?” Mi Yan asked excitedly. Through Great Master Miyan’s message, he was able to roughly sense Great Master Miyan’s location.

The Phantom Clan’s breeding method was unlike the ways of the humans. Great Master Miyan and Mi Xuan were awakened at the exact same time; this meant that they were considered biological brothers. This was rather rare in the clan, hence, Mi Xuan had a soft spot for his brother.

“Eldest Brother, can you come out and meet instead? The Supreme Elder will discover my state instantly and kill me as soon as I step foot into the clan estate…” Great Master Miyan said with a sigh.

“Y-you… Did you possess a physical body?” Mi Xuan asked in a trembling voice. Possessing a physical body was the biggest taboo in the clan, after all. Transgressors would be killed without questions. As the clan leader, it was his duty to kill those whom he discovered to have possessed physical bodies. However, the person in question now was his brother.

Great Master Miyan remained silent in response to his brother’s question.

In just a blink of an eye, Mi Xuan seemed to vanish into thin air. It did not take long before he arrived before Great Master Miyan. When he laid eyes on Great Master Miyan, his body shuddered involuntarily. After a while, he said angrily, “What have you done? I didn’t stop you when you wanted to leave the clan and the Land of the Dead to see the outside world. How could you be so foolish as to possess a person? You know very well this is the clan’s biggest taboo since it’ll grant you the ability to devour our clansmen and absorb the laws they comprehended. Our clan was almost annihilated in the past because of this! Why did you return? Do you have a death wish?”

Great Master Miyan fell to his knees and said with a contrite expression on his face, “I know I’m wrong! However, I didn’t do it without reason. I would’ve lost my life if I didn’t possess him. Brother, faced with a life-or-death situation, would you choose death or would you choose to violate our clan’s taboo?”

None of Great Master Miyan’s words was true. He was already a god when he had met Ru Lai so it was impossible for Ru Lai to kill him at that time. He wanted to possess Ru Lai for selfish reasons. However, he knew he had to lie to his brother in order to gain sympathy and most importantly, get his brother to help him.

The anger in Mi Xuan’s voice subsided as he said, “If that’s the case, you shouldn’t have returned at all. Leave now. It’s too dangerous for you to be here. Find someone to send me a message, and I’ll meet you outside.”

At the end of his words, Mi Xuan flashed and brought Great Master Miyan far away from the Phantom Clan estate.

After they finally came to a stop, Great Master Miyan looked at Mi Xuan excitedly as he asked, “Brother, you’re already at the mid-stage of a King of Gods?”

Great Master Miyan thought that his return to the Land of the Dead was very timely. Now that his brother was at the mid-stage of a King of Gods, it would be even easier for him to possess Duan Ling Tian’s body.

Mi Xuan nodded. “Yes, I’ve had a breakthrough recently. In the future, don’t come here even if you want to meet me. I’ll leave the clan estate to meet you instead. If you’re discovered by the Supreme Elder, he’ll definitely hunt you down and kill you! Do you understand?”

“Yes, brother,” Great Master Miyan replied.

“Tell me. Why did you risk your life to come and see me? What happened?” Mi Xuan bluntly asked. He knew his younger brother very well so he knew there must be a reason that his brother risked his life just to see him.

Great Master Miyan said with a sheepish smile, “Brother, I’m unable to fully possess this body. I found a more suitable body. That body belongs to a Ten Directions Celestial Emperor who’s not even 700 years old. Apart from that, he has also formed and comprehended the Space Sword Dao and the Space Mastery Dao to the preliminary stages. His comprehension of the law of space is remarkable as well…”
