War Sovereign Soaring The Heavens

“It’s good that you’ve returned!” A smile that had not been seen for a long time appeared on the Old Prophet’s face when he saw his disciple had returned safely. He sighed in relief. He was aware of what his direct disciple had done in the dragon clan. Although his direct disciple had done it to help him vent his anger, he knew how risky it was. After all, the dragon clan was one of the two strongest forces in the Dao Martial Saint Land.

After a while, the Old Prophet opened his mouth to introduce Duan Ling Tian, the current successor of the Fog Rain Progeny and the Sect Leader of Seven Absolutes Sect, to his direct disciple. “Yi Yi, he…”

Before the Old Prophet could finish his sentence, Mu Yi Yi, his direct disciple and the current successor of the Prophet Progeny, cried out, “Duan Ling Tian!” It was obvious that she was familiar with him.

However, Duan Ling Tian failed to respond to Mu Yi Yi since he was stunned. Earlier, he had sensed a familiar aura before she had appeared even though it was really faint. However, as much as he tried, he could not remember who the aura belonged to.

‘It seems like she has ten different auras, including one of the aura that I’m familiar with… I wonder where I’ve felt it before.’ As an Eminent Celestial, Duan Ling Tian’s soul was inferior to Bodiless Celestials. However, he was still far superior compared to the current successor of the Prophet Progeny. For that reason, he was able to easily use his Divine Consciousness to probe the ten auras. He could clearly sense nine different auras that were twined around one aura, which was also the strongest aura. It was like a myriad of stars surrounding the moon. The aura he was familiar with was one of the nine faint auras, whereas the strongest aura clearly belonged to the current successor of the Prophet Progeny. He came to the conclusion that her aura’s unique condition had something to do with her cultivation method.

At this moment, Han Xue Nai made her way to Duan Ling Tian’s side and tugged on his sleeve to remind him. “Brother Ling Tian, junior sister Yi Yi just greeted you.”

A hint of admiration could be seen in Han Xue Nai’s eyes when she looked at Mu Yi Yi, the current successor of the Prophet Progeny. It was as though she was looking at her idol.

Upon hearing Han Xue Nai’s words, Duan Ling Tian regained his senses immediately. He looked at Mu Yi Yi and said, “I’m sorry, junior sister Yi Yi… I was distracted for a moment because your aura feels rather familiar…”

Before Mu Yi Yi had returned, the Old Prophet had spoken about her countless times to Duan Ling Tian. He knew that she was a one in a million Heaven Defying Dao Cultivator. She was so powerful that she was only second to him among all the successors of the Absolutes in the Seven Absolutes Sect. He had heard about her assassinating the clan leader of the dragon clan. He felt as though she had helped him vent some of his anger, therefore, he had a favorable impression of her even before they had met.

Mu Yi Yi did not seem displeased that Duan Ling Tian was distracted earlier. Instead, she asked a question that stunned him. “Do you remember where you’ve sensed my aura before?”

Where did he sense her aura before?

It took a moment before Duan Ling Tian recalled where he had sensed her aura before. He had sensed this aura when he was in Clarity City that was located at the edge of the western region. He had stayed in Clarity City before he made his way to Sin City in the central region. One of the auras belonged to Qiu Mu Qing, the Eldest Lady of the Qiu Clan! He had helped her resolve a problem when he was in Clarity City. That was how they had become acquainted. Later on, he discovered that she seemed to have fallen for him. However, she was only a passerby in his eyes. At that time, he did not think they would meet again. Who knew after all these years, he would encounter Qiu Mu Qing’s aura in Mu Yi Yi, the successor of the Prophet Progeny. Many of his memories from when he was in Clarity City came rushing back to him at this moment.

Finally, Duan Ling Tian answered solemnly, “I remember I came across this aura when I was in Clarity City. It belongs to a girl called Qiu Mu Qing.” When he finished speaking, he saw a hint of joy flitted through Mu Yi Yi’s eyes. He was puzzled by this.

After a while, Mu Yi Yi sighed softly. Her icy cold aura seemed to have faded as she said, “If she were to find out that you haven’t forgotten her, she would definitely be very happy…”

“What do you mean?” Duan Ling Tian could feel something was amiss based on Mu Yi Yi’s words. He asked solemnly, “What… what happened to her?” Although he had considered her as just a passerby in his life, he still considered her as a friend after spending those few days with her. Hence, he felt slightly worried when he heard Mu Yi Yi’s words that seemed to indicate something had happened to Qiu Mu Qing.

“She and a few people with her were killed by a b*stard for perverted reasons when they were making their way to the Fire Worship Sect… She was particularly unlucky since her scattered soul was infected by Ruthless Qi at the time of her death. When her soul gathered again, it lingered for three days and three nights,” Mu Yi Yi explained slowly.

Duan Ling Tian narrowed his eyes immediately when he heard Mu Yi Yi’s words. A hint of ferocity could be seen flashing in his eyes. He asked in a hoarse voice, “Do you know who’s the culprit?”

“A young man…” Mu Yi Yi said with a sigh.

Killing intent flashed in Duan Ling Tian’s eyes as his body began to emit an aura that was much colder than Mu Yi Yi’s aura. His cold aura faded a little as he asked, “Is that person stronger than you?”

Since Mu Yi Yi had recounted everything so vividly, Duan Ling Tian was under the impression that she was present and had witnessed the tragic event as well. He thought the culprit had to be stronger than Mu Yi Yi. Otherwise, she would have definitely helped Qiu Mu Qing. She was the Old Prophet’s successor after all, she did not seem like the type of person who would sit back and watch when someone was in need.

Mu Yi Yi sighed as she said, “The truth is I learned about what happened to Qiu Mu Qing after absorbing Qiu Mu Qing’s soul that was about to vanish after lingering for three days and three nights. I gained this information from some of her remaining memories…”

“You absorbed her soul?” Duan Ling Tian frowned.

At this moment, the Old Prophet spoke up, “It’s compulsory for the successor of the Prophet Progeny to do this in order to cultivate to become a Heaven Defying Tao Cultivator. One of the requirements to become the successor of the Prophet Progeny is to search for and absorb nine remnant souls that are infected by Ruthless Qi. This is the only way to become a Heaven Defying Tao Cultivator and cultivate the Heaven Defying Art of Cursing. Naturally, the successor isn’t allowed to kill just to harvest the souls. Even if they did, they would not be able to absorb the souls since the souls would reject them.”

Duan Ling Tian felt enlightened after listening to the Old Prophet’s explanation. Previously, he was astonished when he first learned about the Heaven Defying Art of Cursing that was cultivated by Heaven Defying Tao Cultivators. It truly lived up to its name for being so heaven-defying. The killing method was so terrifying that it could send chills running up one’s spine. He had questioned the existence of such a heaven-defying technique, but he did not expect that one would have to go through such an arduous process just to become a Heaven Defying Tao Cultivator.

After a while, Duan Ling Tian looked at Mu Yi Yi with eyes that burned with rage as he asked, “Do you still remember what the culprit looks like?”

Duan Ling Tian did not even finish speaking when Mu Yi Yi had already taken out a portrait. “This is the portrait of the person I saw in her memories… I’ve been searching for this person as well over the years, but I don’t have any leads.”

The nine souls that were infected with Ruthless Qi were violently killed. Mu Yi Yi had already found eight of those people who had murdered the souls she had absorbed. The only one she had yet to find was Qiu Mu Qing’s murderer.

Duan Ling Tian studied the portrait in Mu Yi Yi’s hand. It was a portrait of a young man with average body size. His features were strangely twisted, giving him a sinister air.

Someone gasped before crying out, “It’s him!”

Everyone, including Duan Ling Tian, turned to the source of the voice. The person who had spoken was none other than Chen Yi Ru, the Four Tribulation Bodiless Celestial, who was standing behind Duan Ling Tian.

Duan Ling Tian’s eyes brightened as he asked, “San Dao…do you know him?” Initially, when he heard Mu Yi Yi said she could not find the man even after all these years, he felt disheartened since he knew looking for the man now would be like fishing for a needle in the ocean. However, who knew Chen Yi Ru would recognize the man in the portrait?
