Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 79: Chapter 79 He Wants to Protect Her

Feng Xun’s tone... a blend of lament, plea, and was that a hint of coquetry?!

With his heartbreakingly handsome face that made men jealous and women’s hearts race, no wonder the impact was evident. Ye Lingyue was momentarily dazed, struggling to keep her guard up as she inwardly cursed.

Demon.

”Alright, this business of Princes and whatnot, it sounds so awkward. You can just call me Feng Xun, and you don’t have to call me Miss Ye either; Ling Yue will do just fine.” Ye Lingyue was truly unreserved with her words, startling Lan Cai’er and others beside her.

Especially An Minxia, who gritted her teeth tightly, her eyes staring at Ye Lingyue like a venomous snake.

This shameless bumpkin, who knew how she managed to get involved with Prince Feng, and now she even dares to familiarly address him by his name.

”Ling Yue, these silver notes are my way of thanking you for saving my life. Please don’t reject them,” Feng Xun said from the adjoining room, having listened for a while.

For some reason, when he heard An Minxia insulting Ye Lingyue, his usually calm heart surged with a towering rage.

He even went against his usual demeanor, offering help to Ye Lingyue.

He wanted to protect her... He didn’t want her to suffer the slightest grievance.

For the first time, Feng Xun wished to shelter someone under his wing, to cherish and protect her.

”Feng Xun, I do appreciate your offering silver to help me, but I cannot accept a reward without providing any service. Our debts to each other, as of our last encounter by the river, have been fully repaid,” Ye Lingyue, though in need of money, was unwilling to take advantage of Feng Xun’s kindness for nothing.

”If you feel indebted nonetheless, you can give me that jar of wine you have as compensation,” Feng Xun said with a smile, his eyes shimmering, making one feel thoroughly at ease.

Old Sir Mu, following beside Prince Feng, was flabbergasted.

The young master is smiling again, he has smiled more times recently than in the past decade.

Old Sir Mu couldn’t help but take a few more glances at Ye Lingyue.

This young girl didn’t seem all that special, barely passing for a beauty, and was merely a commoner after all. He didn’t understand why the young master saw her with a different eye.

A jar of wine couldn’t be worth a thousand taels of gold; even a fool could see Prince Feng was favoring Ye Lingyue.

”If that’s the case, then thank you very much. Once I’ve brewed the Five Treasures Brew, I’ll be sure to repay you,” Ye Lingyue no longer demurred, pushing the jar of wine into Feng Xun’s arms and was about to accept the thousand-tael silver note.

”However, Feng Xun has one more request. I hope Ling Yue can take me along when preparing the materials for the Five Treasures Brew,” Feng Xun said as he handed over the silver note, his hand brushing Ye Lingyue’s.

Their hands touched briefly, causing Feng Xun’s complexion to redden, and he quickly withdrew his hand.

Could it be that Prince Feng wants to learn how to brew wine?

The hobbies of these royal family members are indeed peculiar, Ye Lingyue mused, unaware that behind her, Lan Cai’er was desperately nodding in agreement.

Of course, who would dare to refuse Prince Feng’s request.

”Young master, your health...” Old Sir Mu anxiously interjected.

”Master Mu, there’s nothing wrong with my health, I’ve been feeling much better lately. Have you forgotten? President Liao even reminded me to go out more often to get some fresh air,” Feng Xun playfully said.

Old Sir Mu could only grudgingly hold his tongue.

”There’s nothing to worry about, one more or one less person won’t make a difference.” Ye Lingyue didn’t think much of it.

And so, under the odd gazes of the crowd, Ye Lingyue took the silver note and reached an agreement with An Minxia.

”Hmph, we’ll gamble then, but let me say this first, for this brewing competition, the winner takes all, and when the time comes, don’t you dare go back on your word.” An Minxia wasn’t foolish, in her eyes Ye Lingyue stood no chance of brewing the Five Treasures Brew, and had even foolishly dragged along the fragile Prince Feng; if Prince Feng were to interfere with the competition, who would she argue with?

Consequently, several people witnessed by Lan Cai’er as they drew up a written agreement.

”Ling Yue, you know Prince Feng?” Once everyone had dispersed, Lan Cai’er couldn’t wait to pull Ye Lingyue aside to ask.

”We’ve met once. I just happened to be at Lishui River when I saw him drowning.” At the time, Ye Lingyue didn’t know that the other party was actually a prince.

”I see, no wonder Prince Feng, who usually does not form cliques, gives you special attention.” After listening to Ye Lingyue’s explanation, Lan Cai’er’s expression eased somewhat.

”Sister Lan, earlier Prince Feng mentioned he was a hostage from another country; why then do you all treat him with such respect?” Ye Lingyue had heard a bit about hostages from other nations.

Around Daxia, there were many smaller subordinate nations and states, and to show their respect to Daxia, many of these city-states and small nations would send their own heirs or princesses to the Imperial City, allegedly to study Daxia’s culture and customs, but in reality, it was akin to being confined.

However, these hostages were unloved bastards from their own nations and cities, their status not so noble, and within Daxia’s borders, they could only appear within specific areas of the Imperial City. Compared with Feng Xun, they were clearly not of the same rank.

”Prince Feng is different from ordinary foreign hostages; he is the prince of Beiqing, served as the previous Prince Feng, and is sworn brothers with the Beiqing Emperor. Prince Feng is also the sole prince of a different surname in Beiqing and the head of Beiqing’s wealthiest Feng Family.” Lan Cai’er, who could go unobstructed in Daxia, would immediately seem inferior when encountering Prince Feng.

Ye Lingyue had heard of the name of Beiqing.

There are various countries around Daxia, with Daxia belonging to the middle-to-large sized countries, and Beiqing being one of the larger countries, with powerful citizens and strong national strength.

When the Emperor of Daxia meets the Beiqing Emperor, it’s like a younger brother facing an elder, and he has to bow and show submission.

Feng Xun is favored by the Beiqing Emperor; that’s like the trusted aide of the elder brother, his status even higher than that of the Emperor of Daxia.

Feng Xun’s status is noble, but it’s rumored that he was poisoned in the womb and was born with Innate Cold Syndrome.

Beiqing is located in the north, with extremely cold winters. Beiqing’s alchemists recommended that Feng Xun move to the southern Daxia.

But Feng Xun is ultimately not a Daxia person; he is also a Prince of Beiqing, with a sensitive identity, so the Beiqing Emperor, to take care of Feng Xun’s health, deliberately used a hostage’s status to allow Feng Xun to reside in Daxia.

Thus, nominally he is a hostage, but in reality, he is there for medical treatment.

After listening to this explanation, Ye Lingyue finally understood why everyone, including Lan Cai’er, was so fearful upon seeing Feng Xun.

”I had long heard that due to a sudden outbreak of his illness, Feng Xun temporarily stayed in Li City, but I didn’t expect him to appear at the Drunk Immortal Inn. However, Ling Yue, you are too bold. Do you know how the Five Treasures Brew is made?” Lan Cai’er was worried, she had been trying to stop Ye Lingyue from competing with An Minxia.

She also knew that An Minxia courted Prince Feng, and deliberately provoked Ye Lingyue this time because Prince Feng had taken special notice of Ye Lingyue.

When it came to alcoholic drinks, Ye Lingyue did indeed have very limited knowledge.

”The Five Treasures Brew is a popular medicinal wine in the Imperial City, rumored to be brewed from five poisonous herbs and toxic insects.

Because these five types of poison herbs and insects counteract each other, the wine brewed from them not only detoxifies but also has the effect of nourishing and improving one’s health.

”One more thing you surely don’t know, the Five Treasures Brew was first brewed by An Minxia’s mother’s restaurant. Her mother is the young miss of Daxia’s number one winery, the Immortal Restaurant.” Upon seeing Ye Lingyue’s clueless expression, Lan Cai’er knew that she must not have heard of these matters.
