True Incubus: The Demon with No Limits

”What if I insist on trusting this feeling?”

Evelyn looked into Lucian’s eyes and asked with a dangerous shine in her eyes.

”What if I know why it started and I still want to choose where it goes?”

She asked.

And Lucian—

”This is a terrible time to have this conversation.”

Lucian’s smile returned weakly.

”There is no good time.”

”There are many better times.”

”Name one.”

Lucian opened his mouth but...

As he thought about how there was always someone listening to their conversation, even in the seemingly private moments—

He couldn’t say anything.

Because of the mess outside, all the Enclave members were busy, there was no one listening to their conversation.

There...

There indeed was no better time.

And as if she could read his mind, Evelyn grinned.

”That is what I thought.”

”You have become very troublesome.”

Lucian sighed in defeat.

”I learned from the best.”

She answered as she looked at him and Lucian, he couldn’t help but sigh. His ears could still pick up the sound of the chaos outside, but Evelyn—

She simply stood up, then she looked into his eyes and—

”I like you, Lucian.”

She confessed.

”I know this is sudden. I know this is inconvenient.

But I really do like you.

I want to go somewhere with you, not as Miss Starling and her guard, as Evelyn and Lucian. I want you to see me and only me and I want to see you and only you.”

Evelyn spoke as her eyes shone strongly and Lucian...

He... he could only lower his head.

”I... can’t...”

Evelyn’s face changed.

”Why is that?”

She questioned as she walked towards him.

”I...”

Lucian didn’t know what to say, Evelyn stepped even closer, so close that her body was almost touching his and she looked into his eyes and—

”Am I not your type?”

She asked, her eyes darkening almost dangerously.

”Do you not... find me attractive?”

She tilted her head.

”It’s... complicated.”

Lucian only lowered his head.

And Evelyn narrowed her eyes.

”Is it because of that Sarah?”

”What?”

Lucian blinked.

”The tanned woman.”

Lucian almost laughed at those words.

”No.”

”You are sure?”

”She threatens to kill me twice a day.”

”That does not answer my question.”

”It strongly answers your question.”

Evelyn looked at him for another second, taking her time to think about it, then she nodded and—

”Then what is it?”

She asked.

”It is just...”

Lucian didn’t know how to explain.

What was he even supposed to say?

He was no longer an ideal partner for any normal woman.

Sure, he could play around and joke a little, but getting into an actual relationship was an entirely different thing.

After all, the world he belonged to was... too different from hers.

And he would rather she not become a part of it, because as it was, Lucian, after spending so much time with Evelyn, had started caring about her, as more than just a normal client.

”I can’t say...”

He lowered his head and answered but just then, Evelyn held his hand with a firm grip, then, she looked into his eyes and—

”I want you, Lucian.”

She spoke.

”And it doesn’t matter what I—”

Just as Evelyn was speaking, Lucian suddenly placed his finger on her lips and she froze, unable to say another word despite having so much she wanted to say.

But Lucian—

His expression had changed.

He was no longer hearing her, his ears were hearing what was happening outside, something beyond the roar of fans, chaos from fire, sirens, radios and the footsteps.

Gunshots.

He heard three gunshots and his body language changed instantly.

And just then—

[Cross. Gunfire near the west route. We are moving now.]

Clara’s voice came from his comm. Evelyn’s face paled, Lucian on the other hand—

”Status?”

He asked calmly.

His hearing could tell him most things, but not everything and he couldn’t take any chances right now.

[Crowd is breaking in panic, the fire behind the building is spreading, routes are compromised, Alaric is moving to intercept and make a way out. You get Miss Starling out now.]

She ordered.

”Alright.”

Lucian answered as he looked at Evelyn, the warm, strange air around them was gone, Lucian no longer stuttered as he spoke to her.

”You stay behind me.”

He ordered.

Evelyn looked at him, lost in his eyes, but she still nodded.

Lucian opened the door.

Outside was chaotic too, staff were running, a guard was shouting into his radio, someone dropped a case of cables and did not stop to pick it up, the distant crowd gathered at the gates had started to panic.

Lucian stepped out with Evelyn following behind him closely. For a moment, Evelyn froze when she saw the chaos outside but then—

”Now then, shall we leave? I am hungry.”

Lucian turned to her with a smile, then he extended his hand towards her as he always did when she stepped out of the car.

Evelyn looked at him, at the smile on his face and... her panic started to ease...

Lucian heard her heartbeat settle and honestly... he hated himself for it.

He knew his presence calmed her, so all this while, every time he sensed her panicking, he came, talked to her and just stayed around her in general to ease her up. He actually started using the same trick to cheer her up every time she was sad, he only did it because he cared about her and did not wish to see her sad but...

’Maybe that’s the reason she developed those feelings...’

He theorised inwardly.

And...

To think he used the same trick again to calm her down, when he knew what it was doing to her.

For now however, Lucian did not think about it, he just tightened his hold around Evelyn’s hand that she had placed on top of his and they moved.

Lucian guided her out of the hallway, clearing the way with brute force if he had to, Evelyn followed him, it was as if she didn’t even see all the panic and chaos around her, she just stared at Lucian’s back and the way he was pulling her.

And she...

She couldn’t help but fall for him even more.
