Global Dungeon: I Can See the Status Bar

”Unbelievable, unbelievable! How is this even possible? Such precise measurements, you rascal, you were born to be an Alchemist and Pharmacist...”

Professor Wood looked at Lu Wenwu, who had set aside the dough and was continuing his work, constantly praising him.

”What are you doing right now? Why are you mixing oil and flour together? And why did you use hot water for kneading the dough earlier? What’s the difference?”

”This is called oil pastry.”

Lu Wenwu kept stirring, causing the flour and oil to merge completely, forming a brownish paste.

”When you spread this on the dough and then cook it, the resulting pancake will be crispy and delicious, somewhat similar to fried food.”

”Using hot water for kneading is called ’half-scalded dough,’ it improves the texture of the pancake, making it both soft and chewy.”

”Unfortunately, our conditions here are limited, we only have medium-gluten flour, which affects the texture of some things made from it.”

”Luckily, the egg-filled pancake isn’t affected.”

”There are different types of flour?” Professor Wood was getting more confused. ”And what is ’medium-gluten’?”

In the Jade Empire, there were no such terms as ”oil pastry” or ”medium-gluten.”

These were terms that Lu Wenwu invented by translating from Chinese, naturally making it difficult for the Old Law God to understand.

”I don’t know what magic plants are like, but mundane crops, based on seed type and growing conditions, end up producing fruits with different characteristics. These differences result from years of natural evolution.”

While searching for seasonings and cooking tools, Lu Wenwu thought for a moment and then explained.

”’Medium-gluten’ is a classification of the ’glutinousness’ contained within flour. To put it simply, you can understand it as the difference in elasticity of the dough after kneading. Additionally, flour can be subdivided into more than a dozen types based on different raw materials and milling methods.”

In fact, the glutinousness of flour is determined by the protein content.

But considering that there might not be a concept of protein here, he kept the explanation simple.

Professor Wood, being a prominent figure in the field of alchemy, naturally had no weak comprehension ability, and soon figured out some of the logic.

It’s akin to how the concentration of magic power contained in the same mineral varies, and the elemental attributes differ, thus creating variant materials suitable for different types of refining.

”Unfortunately... some things are missing...”

Lu Wenwu cracked an egg and sniffed it, looking somewhat troubled at the kitchen spices, then just grabbed a handful of green onions to chop into pieces, along with a bit of ground pepper.

At the same time, he took out a jar of prepared sauce from his personal backpack.

Professor Wood was immediately drawn to this jar of black stuff, hurriedly moving closer.

”What is this? Black pepper sauce?”

”Hmm... It’s specifically used for egg-filled pancakes, mainly made from fermented soybeans, mixed with some garlic powder, five... Sichuan pepper powder, cinnamon powder, star anise powder, clove powder, fennel powder, and some sugar and other seasonings, and cooked together with some oils.”

Lu Wenwu was so familiar with his sauce formula that he could recite it backward.

”Speaking of which, Professor, have you mastered the legendary Time Magic? If possible, could you advance the timeline of these doughs by two hours? That would enhance the flavor.”

Yes, Time Magic.

This is mentioned in the Complete Spell Collection book.

Lu Wenwu personally believed this was something out of this world, even though Masters of Magic typically used this to accelerate potion-making, skipping the tedious merging and waiting process.

This time Professor Wood didn’t say anything.

He chanted a spell and gently waved his magic staff.

A nearly translucent silver light then entered the container holding the dough.

After about ten seconds, Professor Wood solemnly spoke, ”Done, please continue your cooking.”

Lu Wenwu glanced at the various rolling pins in the kitchen, decisively abandoned them, and instead pulled out his Bath Fire Demon Dragon Staff from his bosom.

With a soft chant, the dark red staff suddenly expanded to the size of a regular rolling pin.

Lu Wenwu sprinkled a little flour on the workbench, took out a dough piece and gently rolled it into a rough strip, then rolled over it with the magic staff, forming a perfect long noodle in front of him.

It was uniformly thick and evenly wide.

The Arcane Servants, who were always engaged in cooking, all knew how brilliant this was, and they applauded and cheered, exclaiming in amazement.

Only the Old Law God, Professor Wood’s fist tightened again, visibly heating.

”You damned rascal! Look at what you’re doing with your magic staff again!”

The skinny old man roared, and the pitch-black Magic Hammer began knocking on Lu Wenwu’s head non-stop with a ”dong dong dong” sound.

”Hey! Isn’t the magic staff supposed to be such an inconvenient object? Isn’t it created to serve Mages?”

Lu Wenwu casually spread the oil pastry on the noodle sheet, then rolled it into a cylindrical shape with an opening at the bottom.

He flattened it, turned the unsealed spiral pattern downward, and rolled it into a circular cake shape.

”You see, now that I needed it, I used it, the magic staff was a great help. Isn’t this the original intention behind the predecessors creating such a tool?”

”Rascal! The magic staff is meant for your spells!” Professor Wood was so furious that he was fuming.

Lu Wenwu unhurriedly repeated the earlier actions, smiling, and asked, ”Isn’t the essence of magic meant to make our lives easier, right? Mages are the masters of magic.”

”What else could it be?”

”The magic staff is a tool to facilitate our spell-casting, correct?”
