Rise of The Demon General

Chapter 369: Chapter 369. A Suggestion to Take a Mission

Half a year into Amon’s second year, he broke through to the Peak Transformation Stage.

”Hm... I guess my cultivation speed is as fast as the top students in Oredolia,” Amon thought. Xin Jingsao claimed to have reached this stage at the age of twenty-seven, which was Amon’s current age. However, considering Amon spared half his time cultivating his infernal energy core, he could be regarded as much faster.

Reaching the Peak Transformation Stage, he found it easier to comprehend the Flying Sword art. He reached the Expert mastery not long after his breakthrough. With expert mastery, the distance his flying knives could travel away from him increased. Their speed and power also improved. His alpha flying knives could now support his body weight, allowing him to pull off the flying feat Xin Jingsao exhibited.

Since his alpha flying knives didn’t have as large a surface as a sword, each knife could only support one foot. His two feet had to step on two knives to fly. Controlling two knives to fly steadily was harder than controlling only one. He practiced for days to get the correct rhythm. After one week, he could fly with decent fluidity.

He continued to train to get used to flying by riding his alpha flying knives. While flying, he practiced target-throwing using his regular flying knives. His accuracy slightly declined, but he considered it acceptable. His enemies would also have a hard time hitting him when he was flying like that.

Years passed. Amon was nearing the end of the fourth year of the senior class.

He entered the portal box to get the monthly supply of Yuka’s blood. His blood had not yet achieved the complete transformation from the Poison Blood Infusion Method, but he could feel the difference already. He could exert more strength compared to others of the same cultivation level. His blood could singe wood or other combustible materials.

As he entered the room where Yuka was imprisoned, he saw she was hanging upside down on the ceiling. Her wings were folded. The eyes in the wings and the woman’s head were closed.

’Is she sleeping?’ Amon wondered. This was the first time he saw Yuka rest like that.

Yuka remained in that position. Normally, she could already sense him when he entered the hallway. This time, she didn’t show any response at all.

Amon threw his flying knife. The knife flew at an arc and hit Yuka’s woman’s head. The knife bounced from the impact and fell to the floor. There was not even a scratch at the impact point.

Yuka’s woman eyes slowly opened. Her folded wings parted. The eyes on those wings also opened. The pupils darted around until they rested on Amon.

”You are the one who disturbs my sleep?” She asked. Her tone was flat. It was unclear if she was angry.

”Time to fill this vial,” Amon said. The giant puppet came and took the vial. It then brought the vial to Yuka.

Yuka dropped to the floor and received the vial. She cut her arm and let her blood drop into the vial. As she did that, she said, ”I just have the strangest of dreams. I dreamed that I was a human. Not any human, but a sage. Can you imagine that?”

Amon didn’t respond.

”That was the first time I ever dreamed something like that. It was so vivid, so real, so strange. It makes me imagine if I am actually that sage and this current me is just a dream. What do you think?”

”I think you should hand me that filled vial,” Amon responded.

Yuka looked at the vial filled with her blood. ”Hm... Like I said, very strange... However, I somehow felt happy in that dream. I couldn’t fly. I was weak, but I was free, unlike my life in this prison. This makes me very much like to kill the bastard who woke me up from that dream.”

Yuka and Amon stared at one another for a while.

”But I’m a magnanimous being, so I won’t bitch about it,” Yuka finally said. He placed the vial on the giant puppet’s open palm. The giant puppet returned to Amon and handed the vial back to him.

”I’m going back to sleep again. Perhaps I will dream about being a sage again... Or wake up as the sage and learn that all this is just a bad dream. Either way, do not disturb me again, demon cultivator. I mean it.”

”I will be back next month,” Amon said and left.

Coming out of the portal box, he was notified by an alarm that a visitor was requesting a visit. Amon went outside and was surprised to see the person standing in wait outside.

”How did you get inside this place?” Amon asked Xin Lie.

The demon woman smiled widely. ”If the Demon Realm sent someone to sneak into this realm, they would have sent someone with exceptional abilities in disguise and bypassing security, don’t you think?”

”What do you want?” Amon asked.

”Why is your tone so unfriendly? Considering your secret, we can be said to be kin,” Xin Lie said with a laugh.

Amon frowned at her words. He looked around. There didn’t seem to be anyone around.

”If you want to speak, come inside! You are risking both of us with this stunt,” Amon scolded.

”No need. I just want to give you a suggestion,” Xin Lie said.

”What suggestion?”

”In this academy’s mission center, there is a mission requesting an investigation in a small town called Melas Twich. Take that mission.”

”Why would I do that?” Amon asked.

”That mission is good for you,” Xin Lie replied.

Amon didn’t say anything in response. He just stared at her.

”Well. That’s all I want to tell you. It’s up to you whether you take the mission or not. If you don’t, it will be a waste of an opportunity. A terrible waste, I might add. See you around.”

A gust of black fog sprouted from the ground Xin Lie was standing on. This flack fog enveloped her. When the black fog dispersed, she was no longer there.

Amon walked to where she was a moment ago. He didn’t see anything suspicious on the ground or in the surroundings. He wondered what technique the girl used to disappear from there.

”Melas Twich...,” Amon muttered. After thinking for a while, he decided it wouldn’t hurt to look at the mission.

Arriving at the mission center, Amon browsed around the missions posted there. It had been some time since he took a mission. Other than to get the compulsory academic points, he focused his time more on cultivation now.

None of the missions used the town’s name as the title, so he had to read each mission’s description one by one. After a while, he finally found the one he was looking for.

”Suspicion of a demonic cult...,” Amon read the mission.

The mission was to investigate the rumors swirling around the folks in Melas Twich town. The rumors mentioned unverified reports from the town citizens regarding suspicious activities that pointed to a cult conducting demonic practices. The town hall requested the kingdom to send soldiers to investigate, but the kingdom was occupied with other matters. The request was transferred to the Royal Academy. If these reports could be confirmed, the kingdom would spare some soldiers to deal with the cult.

Amon thought about the mission. During his freshman class and the early years of his junior class, he always grabbed any mission that had anything to do with demons. His purpose was to get infernal cultivation art. After he had it, he no longer bothered with this type of mission.

Considering Xin Lie suggested this mission, it was most likely the demon cult in that town was not just a rumor. However, did he need to get involved in whatever was going on in that town? Did Xin Lie lure him there to aid him or harm him?

He didn’t believe Xin Lie gave him information out of the goodness of her heart. She must have a purpose, but he also did not think her purpose was to harm him. She had plenty of opportunities to do that in the past. So, it was neither aid nor harm.

He walked around the mission center as he pondered the matter. He couldn’t deny that Xin Lie had piqued his curiosity. He was not someone who did something just because he was curious. He believed in the saying, curiosity killed the cat. But in this regard, something was tugging at him to check it out.

”Hmph! Let’s find out your intention,” Amon muttered.

Xin Lie had always been an unknown factor. He didn’t know whether she was an ally or foe. She didn’t fall into either category. She might be from the Infernal Realm, which was considered enemies by everyone in this world, but that meant nothing to him. She claimed she was here to search for the Pledge Demon, but that search was over. So, what was her purpose to remain in this hostile world?

By taking this mission, perhaps he could find out. It was better to learn about her intention sooner rather than later.

With that thought, Amon went to the mission counter and took the mission.
