“Wardanaz. No matter what, we can’t shoot them.”

“What are you talking about?”

Yi-Han was shocked by Nillia’s violent way of thinking.

“Oh. Is that not it?”

Nillia became embarrassed.

Well, Yi-Han wasn’t a crazy person, so he wouldn’t tell her to shoot arrows at Baldurguard students.

“Rise, warriors made of bone!”

When he threw bone powder out the window, skeleton warriors rose.

Yi-Han pointed at the skeleton warriors and said,

“You should shoot those.”

“…”

Nillia was shocked by Yi-Han’s violent way of thinking.

Was it okay to summon skeleton warriors and shoot them with magic arrows on a noble family’s mansion grounds?

Of course, it obviously wasn’t.

The two Baldurguard students started screaming.

“Aaaaaaaah!”

“S-skeletons! Undead! It’s undead!”

“Why are you making such a fuss over skeletons?”

Gainando asked as if he couldn’t believe it.

The words of the Einroguard madman who only knew magic weren’t helpful to the two.

Ingsen, who had barely calmed down, shouted to the others with tears in his eyes.

“Un-undead! It’s undead!”

“It’s undead, so does that look like a living person to you?”

“Why are you so calm about this!!”

Ingsen screamed at Gainando as if having a fit.

Gainando’s nonchalant attitude, as if he had just seen a dog walking in an empty lot, drove Ingsen even crazier.

Yonaire, feeling this wouldn’t do, urged Nillia.

“Quickly. Quickly take them down!”

“O-okay.”

Nillia hurriedly cast enchantment magic on the bow and summoned a spirit.

With a heavy resonance, powerful energy swirled around the bow. The spirit, sensing its master’s urgency, settled on the arrowhead to adjust its direction.

Bang!

The arrow struck the skeleton warriors accurately. The friends applauded seeing the skeleton warriors properly shattered.

“As expected of Nillia.”

“Hmph. If Yi-Han had summoned them stronger, set up bone shields, and cast curses…”

“It’s not time to boast about dark magic now, Gainando.”

“Um, everyone? Please look over there.”

“?”

The friends belatedly noticed the two Baldurguard students who had slumped down.

“…Now, you two. Look out the window! The skeletons are dead! There’s nothing to worry about!”

“That’s right. Miss Nillia here took care of them! Get up and see!”

“M-my legs have no strength…”

Priestess Siana whacked their backs with her staff at the Baldurguard students’ excuse.

The other friends hurriedly rushed in to stop her.

“You shouldn’t hit them!”

“They said their legs had no strength…”

“Oh, does hitting their backs make strength return to their legs?”

“No, I just hit them because I was annoyed.”

Fortunately, the two were so out of it that they didn’t even realize they had been hit.

They finally managed to get up belatedly, looked out the window to confirm the shattered skeletons, and then let out sighs of relief.

“They… they really are dead!”

“Strictly speaking, skeletons aren’t dead, they’re… mmph.”

Ratford covered Gainando’s mouth.

There was no point in giving a dark magic lecture here.

“Who defeated them?”

“Nillia here did it. It’s a combination of enchantment magic and spirit magic.”

“…!”

Ingsen was shocked.

It was difficult enough to cast one, but to use both together and even defeat skeletons.

It was an unbelievable magical ability.

“A-amazing!”

“Impossible. Even though she’s not a noble?”

At Basiu’s muttering, Yonaire, who had been explaining as kindly as possible, bristled.

“Oh, this bastard really.”

“Pardon?!”

“What?”

“J-just now…”

“I didn’t say anything though?”

The friends nodded simultaneously at Yonaire’s words.

“She didn’t say anything just now.”

“My. Did your mind become weak from seeing undead?”

“Y-yes… It seems so.”

Ingsen and Basiu nodded with dazed expressions.

The sight of the skeleton warriors walking outside was still vivid in their minds.

To think they would even hear things that weren’t there when meeting evil beings that shake people’s souls…

“Miss Nillia. Thank you for your kindness. It was truly amazing magic. For saving our lives…”

‘Isn’t that a bit much?’

Nillia was inwardly flustered.

Would anyone die from that?

“I didn’t see it properly.”

Basiu muttered from the side. The last remaining bit of pride made him try to find fault with something.

As soon as those words ended, Yi-Han shouted from outside.

“Nillia. I’m ready!”

“…W-what?”

While the friends weren’t aware, Yi-Han had gone outside and was preparing the next magic.

Nillia and her friends, belatedly realizing this fact, were flustered.

What had he prepared?

Outside were various defensive magics Yi-Han had summoned. Nillia tilted her head and asked,

“You want me to hit those targets?”

Nillia was puzzled by the targets that looked no different from skeletons.

“That’s right. But wait a moment.”

Yi-Han approached the Baldurguard students, grabbed their arms.

Then he dragged them behind a shield.

“Now. You can shoot at us!”

“…”

“…?!!”

At the sight of Yi-Han confidently shouting to shoot arrows at them, the two students’ expressions became like they were about to faint.

Nillia, thinking this wasn’t right either, stammered,

“Th-this is a bit…”

“I thought this would be the best place to watch the magic. It’ll be good to experience it.”

“…Won’t they be scared?”

Gainando, who had been freed from Ratford’s hand, quickly shouted.

“He said he was disappointed he couldn’t see it properly earlier!”

“Oh. That’s good. It’ll be much better to see than before.”

Yi-Han put his hands on their shoulders as if pleased.

At that strong force, their expressions changed from ashen to corpse-like.

Ingsen glared at Basiu as if he would kill him.

“You… D-don’t ever speak like that again…!”

“I-I didn’t… didn’t know… Save…”

“Haha. You won’t die. Don’t worry. Nillia. Fire away!”

***

After that, Yi-Han showed off a few more of his friends’ magics.

And the more he did, the more the Baldurguard students became gaunt and lost their vitality.

But Yi-Han wasn’t very interested in such changes.

His mind was filled only with the desire to firmly imprint on outsiders how amazing his friends’ magic was.

“Dolgyu. Ratford. Come out for a bit. This seems to need some preparation.”

“What are you going to do?”

“How about a Demon Illusion Bloody Slash?”

As soon as the three went out, Ingsen rolled his eyes like a cornered mouse and quietly opened the door and went out.

“?”

“Where is he going?”

“Is he running away?”

At Gainando’s words, Basiu, who was half out of his mind, suddenly raised his head.

‘C-could it be…?’

The other friends chided as if to say what nonsense.

“Would he run away when his friend is here?”

“He left his friend behind and ran away because it would be suspicious to leave together.”

“Even so, how could you think that?”

5 minutes later.

Ingsen returned with Yi-Han.

Yi-Han kindly smiled and patted Ingsen’s back.

“My. To think you got lost. The grounds here are quite large.”

“H-how did you find me…”

“I saw someone going out and thought it might be you, so I followed the footprints. I’m glad I found you before it was too late. There’s nothing funnier than getting lost inside a mansion, right? Haha.”

“Ha… hahaha…”

Ingsen laughed dryly with a face that looked like he wanted to die.

He thought he had escaped, but suddenly the Wardanaz family boy appeared from behind.

“Then please rest. I’ll prepare some magic.”

“Wardanaz. Aren’t you showing them too much magic?”

“Is that so?”

“!”

The two were sincerely moved by Nillia’s words.

Among the cold and cruel mages in this reception room, there was someone who cared for them.

“Then after this magic…”

“!”

“Let’s prepare the magic those two brought. It would be unfair if we only showed ours.”

‘It’s magic hell!’

The two finally realized.

This was magic hell.

They had read about it in fairy tales.

The place where mischievous children were dragged to by an evil mage after playing pranks.

It was the magic hell they could never escape from.

No one came to help them.

They would be forever trapped between those magics and despair.

Ingsen, thinking he would never see his family and seniors again, cried loudly.

Then, while Yi-Han was out, he begged the only person he could trust.

“Please!”

“?”

“Please, Miss Nillia. Have mercy on us!”

“Wh-what should I…”

“Let us escape!”

“Huh? Can’t you just escape?”

Nillia wondered why they were acting like this.

To talk nonsense as if unable to make normal judgments.

If they just said they had urgent business, Wardanaz would let them go.

‘…Or not? He won’t let them go?’

“If-if we escape, we’ll be caught. By that great mage of the Wardanaz family…”

‘How did they know Wardanaz’s nickname?’

Nillia was curious.

“What if you escape secretly?”

“I’m telling you we’ll be caught! We’ll be discovered if we go out from the reception room! We’ll be discovered…!”

Basiu earnestly pleaded.

“Miss Nillia. I apologize for being jealous of you. I was unconsciously jealous of your outstanding magic skills.”

“What??”

“But now I understand. You’re the only one who cares about us. Please! I’ll apologize like this. Just one more time, the mercy you’ve shown us so far…”

The two appealed to Nillia with tears.

Nillia couldn’t even call her friends because of the too serious request.

“Well… I do have an invisibility potion.”

“!!”

“S-such a secret…!”

‘Are these really magic school students?’

Attempting invisibility in dangerous areas was the first thing any Einroguard student would think of.

Suppressing her disbelief, Nillia said,

“But the problem is footprints remain, right?”

“Sob…!”

“Actually, there’s a way for that too.”

“Miss Nillia!!”

“…If you crawl through those bushes over there, you can reach the main gate without leaving traces, you know?”

Nillia felt slightly embarrassed as she spoke.

Even Nillia, from the Shadow Patrol, felt embarrassed crawling through bushes, so could these two from noble families really do it?

“But I think it might be too hard for you…”

“Thank you, thank you!”

“We won’t forget this kindness! If we have a child, we’ll name them Nillia!”

“…Please don’t actually do that.”

Nillia refused seriously.

***

Yi-Han, who had finished preparing diligently with Dolgyu and Ratford, paused when he saw the reception room with two fewer people.

“Where did they go?”

“W-well. It seems they went back?”

“Leaving their reagent pouches?”

“I-I guess they forgot them.”

“Why didn’t you see them? Hmm.”

“M-maybe we were too focused on magic?”

Yi-Han shrugged at Nillia’s words.

Thinking about it, he felt that could be possible.

“Why are you sweating so much, Nillia?”

“It’s… it’s hot inside. You know. I’m from the northern mountains! Shadow Patrol hunters wear just one layer of cloth even in midwinter!”

“When I saw the Shadow Patrol last time, they were all wearing thick clothes though?”

“…”

Fortunately, Yi-Han didn’t ask any more and sat in a chair.

“It’s disappointing after preparing so much. Did they have urgent business?”

“What will you do with these reagent pouches?”

“Hmm… It’s troublesome, but I guess I have no choice. I’ll have to send a letter. Saying I’ll visit to deliver them.”

“Mr. Wardanaz, you’re too kind.”

“It’s nothing much.”

Nillia had a strong feeling that the two students might suddenly start feigning illness from today.
